We do a lot of statistical analysis in IE, and a lot of coding in SE. And I enjoy both equally. I have knowledge in business management and marketing for around 11 years.
    My goal is to study Data Science and machine learning for the next 4 years.
    The only thing i think I'll have the most problems with is the mathematics 🤓😂
    So im currently studying that part found a good course on Coursera about mathematics for data science.
    Looks good so far.
    I'm currently 30 years old, would love to finish at 35 and work in this field till I'm +-50-55 untill then i want to create one of my start ups as well in this field.

    I love your videos! I’m coming from call center management where I’ve done very basic data analysis to help make decisions about achievability of metrics. Last year my company started tossing around the idea of hiring a full time analyst, so I found a deep dive boot camp and started working in learning how to code and use the data science tools. I love puzzles, especially math puzzles, so building models to analyze call center data is fun for me. My company doesn’t sell a physical product; we sell customer support. Data science is a great way to demonstrate how successful this kind of support can be.

  • @MrFun23

    About the coding part. I have around 2 years experience in "classical" software development and I recently moved to Data Science department since I'm majoring in Data Science and wanted to try it out. I can say that at first I was honestly horrified by the quality of DS code, it's pure unreusable and unmaintainable garbage by the standards of software development. But after sometime I just realised that the code is just a tool for DS, for softdev the code is critical part of the job, while for DS it's kinda the means to an end so they don't spend much time thinking about the code and perfecting it. So as I understand in order to be a DS you need to know just basics of coding, so if you work in python you need to know how to use python, but don't worry about "clean code", design patterns and stuff like this. Though try to write readable code at least (please).

      How are you feeling about your Data Science switch outside of the sloppy code issues?

    • @MrFun23
      @MrFun23 2 года назад +1

      @@tylernardone3788 honestly, I don't enjoy it that much, I actually decided to commit to software engineering. But it's purely subjective, I just like the engineering part of software engineering and there isn't much of this in data science. Well, data science can be more challenging from the perspective of engineering if you are building complex data pipelines for big data or some complex machine learning systems. But, in my opinion, the reality is that the absolute majority of businesses don't need this. Most of data science related work out there is a sort of advanced data analytics, where you don't just use descriptive statistics but also apply some simpler ML methods. And I'm not saying that it's bad or boring in general, it's just not my cup of tea. I actually know some people who enjoy this, they enjoy working with data, analyzing it and obtaining some incites from the data. So it really boils down to what you actually love to do, and for myself, I didn't find what I love to do in data science :)

      @tylernardone3788 2 года назад

      @@MrFun23 thanks for reply! Knowing what you like and dislike is a great ability all on its own, congrats on experimenting and deciding on path! It’s definitely all different strokes for different folks. I’m of the mind that with my science/math background I will enjoy data work more but I am enjoying learning programming in general and how to code cleanly from the engineering side too. Cheers

    • @MrFun23
      @MrFun23 2 года назад

      Advanced machine learning is a math-heavy field, especially if you talk about research. So if you don't like statistics much, I'm not sure you gonna enjoy ML/AI. Linear algebra, mathematical optimization, calculus and statistics are mathematical fields that are heavily involved in ML.

    • @vans4lyf2013
      @vans4lyf2013 2 года назад

      @@MrFun23 lol i love linear algebra and advanced calculus. I just hate statistics, it's much easier than the other fields of maths but boring as hell and often taught very poorly. Also deep knowledge of statistics isn't really a prerequisite for deep learning, just the more basic types of ML. I want to be doing more cutting edge research.

    • @MrFun23
      @MrFun23 2 года назад

      @@vans4lyf2013 Oh sorry then. I misinterpreted your comment, I thought you meant something like "I don't like statistics because it's math". Though I still think that you need a quite good knowledge of statistics for ML. A lot of theoretical background in ML comes from statistics, it's not like you need to do statistics a lot, like perform statistical tests or do some descriptive statistics, it's more like you need to understand statistics, but yeah this shouldn't be a problem for someone who is fond of calculus and linear algebra. Well anyway, good luck with your venture into ML :)
