ZERO Cellular Or WiFi Service, ONLY Ham Radio!!! Sending/Receiving Email 30 Miles From NOWHERE!!

- I was in Sumatra, Florida. I drove 30 miles through nothingness, with no cellular data or service at all. While out here, I decided to test my ability to send and receive email on 30 meters from my mobile, using my laptop and my Icom 7100.
Practical example of when all else is gone, ham radio is still there.

One other great thing about winlink is that when a server receives a message sent to you, it's not necessary to be on the radio , you can receive it whenever you reconnect to the network. Great tool. I think a lot of sail boaters/circumnavigators use this service or something similar. You should show a radio to radio (no servers required) connection when you have a chance...it's the next best thing to encryption! Great vid!!
WOW! Eric you are Knots, but are really good at radio communications, that's why I never stop watching your videos. Videos with a meaning and purpose. That video is what Amateur Radio is all about. From Alaska this is KL5FX...73 my friend.
Nice vid and love your vids. I know life and people got in the way of your channel, but still enjoy them
Now, that is really slick. I'm currently just starting to study for a technician license. I've wanted to get into ham radio for years, but this and that and the other. So that is yet another reason.
I think the best way that ham radio operators will be useful in a grid-down situation will be to send E-mail. I believe it's REALLY IMPORTANT to have Winlink setup, and ready to use when that happens. Thanks for the video.
Great demo from the outback.
Brother you are ahead of the curve! Great Job!
That's pretty awesome. Thanks for sharing. I will start the journey to learn Winlink.
Hi Eric, thanks for using my email message in your presentation, it's fun to see your call sign in someone's video.
73, Ron n2imb
P.S. I love my 7100 as well, great shack-in-box.
Thanks I love my 7100 mobile and my setup, thanks
People that say "just use your cellphone" have never been without power for 8 weeks, no cell service for 2 weeks, no cable internet for 8 MONTHS! That was the Aftermath of hurricane Laura in Southwest Louisiana in 2020.
Thanks for sharing, early days in the hobby and great to learn something else.
Great Demo. Keep it up !
If you get a lunch break long enough to drive 30 miles in the middle of nowhere and make a video , I want to know if they’re hiring 😂😂!! Great video , I don’t know anything about what you’re doing or what frequency you even email on but this is an eye opener for sure . I need to get educated
I drove out there for work and pulled over at a spot during my lunch break. Have to be fair. Work time is work time. But I chose to eat my lunch on the side of the road and make a video
LOL - a winged creature! Dude you are salty! Love your videos!!

Hi Eric, thanks for short QSO on Tuesday morning from Ft. Lauderdale. Very nice video. Keep up the good work.
I love vara hf winlink I've used it and it's awesome like I say when the phones are down the hams are up
OH GOD TEXT ON RADIO SO STUPID just kidding I love everything involving RF comms. Thanks for making these videos, your band plan videos were my go-to while studying for my license.
Great video Eric, Its sad that so many will nay say on this, until the SHTF and they can't communicate with people.
Keep the great videos coming !
Good example of when you only have ham radio. Thanks.
Brilliant. I've done it once using Vara FM and it was cool
Excellent info
Great video, Eric. Thank you for sharing the content
You got it!
Good video, Eric.
Even works in BF Egypt. Need to get this working for me.
Thanks for sharing this valuable information with us, Eric!
Glad it was helpful!
@@HamRadioConcepts You've helped me many times on my journey of Ham Radio! Eric 2024!
Very awesome!
I am so sick of the people out there with channels that us the sadham word to talk about amateur radio that have no education of it. I have been on channels where these people are so uneducated it hurts my brain. This hobby/service is here for furthering education, good will to others by communication and to assist when other services are out. There are other reasons but I personally find these important.
Eric, thank you for your interesting videos. I am in Palm Beach County, Unfortunately I can not reach any Vero area repeaters from Lantana. However, it's fascinating to see how you can email from your vehicle from remote areas. That is great! Thanks and 73'S
Mike

You were way out in the Pucker Brush YZI !!
This is going to be a long comment but figure I would share anyways. I just recently started playing with my radio again. I just watched a video of yours yesterday about " Why did you get into ham radio". I got into it back in 2020 when Covid started. Just like everybody else, we were doing things outside and exploring. We were at a swimming hole one day on the Eglin reservation and had no cell service. It was my wife, kids, and I and no one else. In the distance I could hear people cutting up. I thought to my self that this could be a bad situation if there is no way to call for help. I was going to get a CB but after doing some research on the different types of communication I decided to get Tech license for amateur radio. After several months and things started to get back to normal my interest started to fade. I'm in North Florida and when Debby popped up I started to think about preparedness and picked up my radio. I came across a video on YT about working satellites. I also watch several of yours about it. Now I'm obsessed with satellites. I can only listen at the moment but have an Arrow antenna on order. I don't really like to just talk on the radio so this sounds exciting to me and a way to stay interested in the hobby. So sending/receiving emails over the radio, that is pretty cool. I'm going to be doing more research on that. I also wanted to say thanks for your time putting up videos. I enjoy your channel. I occasionally hear you on Sarnet, so next I'm monitoring and I hear you I will say hey. Sorry for the long ramble.
Love it.. thanks for your time to write this comment man, 73
Just remember that email over ham radio has the same restrictions against commercial or business use. It's not a one-for-one replacement for regular email service.
Cool video Eric. Back in the old days, so to speak. I used to do phone patches on HF. You could do the same from your remote location. 73 de WA3RSL
Great video. I have done this via 2meters, but I should try getting it setup for HF.
The 7100 HAS to be the best mobile.
I have no reason to get anything different. It does everything
I hear banjos.
Hello Eric. Been watching your videos since 2020 and a subscriber. My personal opinion is that you are doing a GREAT job on your presentations. You might come across hard sometimes to people who do not understand the hard work you do these videos. When you comment hard to viewers to it is ok. It is your channel, and you can say whatever you want it's a free speech. So, I sometimes come across direct. No running around the bush just straight to the point. After COVID-19 I notice a lot of people are quite sensitive. Stay Safe. 73 Ruben KD6CWI
Thanks Ruben 73
Thanks for the response back Eric. Couldn't help respond back on some comments on this. God Bless you and your Family and keep up the great videos. 73 Ruben KD6CWI.@@HamRadioConcepts
I was about to write about how its useless to use email on Ham radio but I heard you in the beginning when you said to unsubscribe. So, I wont comment on how stupid it is to send an email through Ham radio. Ill keep my mouth shut.
Technically you could use Satellite via iPhone if you have a latest model but having the Ham Radio option is still the best option. It will always be the best go to scenario 73!
I'd rather send an email from my phone...not unsubscribing...when all else fails (e.g. the phone)....
Advanced class
Good video.
Icom 7100 ❤
You can email Taylor Swift from Ham Radio!! 😅
RUSSELL!!!! hahahahaha, how you been buddy

Been good Eric!
I have a 7300 and an EFHW going finally.
I'm on amrron 7.110 almost 24/7 with JS8CALL and VarAC.
I'm trying to figurer out what type radio mount you have? I have a Ram mount with my CF 31 and IC 7100.
Ram-a-can 2
had this mount almost 5 years I think.
How hard was it to take the amature radio license? and did you do it online?
Shame winlink is not allowed in uk
Like to get in to ham radio but don't think I can afford it.
UV5R is $16.99 right now on Amazon. So around $70 total in US to get started including the license fee and exam. You could get the radio first and listen. Then save up for test and license.
you have a laptop?
you are not a ham.
just kidding .
cool
1.5 minutes for 8 word email?
@@ZiggleFingers yup. Could be faster depending on the mode, bandwidth and propagation.
I'm thinking, when nothing else works, you'll have more time.
@@HamRadioConceptsInformative video Eric. Have you considered a follow-up on sending a text message? 73
@@Locksnuthave videos in the past but I should update with new ones
😂
Dude you have sorry attitude. That person you putting down might be the one that needs you.
@@pauln4dmeedwards775 whatever. Tired of people telling me to go fuck myself because I am making stupid useless videos about things nobody will ever use. My attitude is this, I tell them it’s not for them, to stop watching, but they continue to subscribe and come up with some sorry answer and write emails and comment on what I am doing in the video That is a sales pitch, or fake, recorded with someone else’s video while I talk over it.. I don’t want a huge audience and I don’t want tons of subscribers, I want assholes to get lost and people who want to see some practical interesting things in the ham radio hobby. This is a thankless, hardly monetary hobby on RUclips. That’s why I have a tremendous career in land mobile radio and public safety. I work on radios and repeaters and microwave tower sites every day, along with NOAA weather stations and more. RUclips is last on my priority list. That’s why I stopped making videos for a few months and dropped my sponsor hamradioprep. Please understand this isn’t your standard ham radio RUclips channel.
@@HamRadioConcepts👏👏👏👏👏👏 nothing but love brother!
This is pretty amazing s*** actually. It's not for when everything works. It may seem pessimistic, but being able to do it sure feels like optimism. 😀👍
@@AdamDeal-KF0PRIwhat's up Adam!!!!!
@@HamRadioConcepts hello bro just staying cool
That is the best way of communicating when there is nothing is left. Great video. 73 KD9JLZ
Man, it's a bit hard to follow you (as a non native speaker) because you sidetrack into nested subordinate clauses a lot :/
Eric I love your videos they are extremely informative and helpful.. Kn4mfk
