  • This is a little bit of a different video... a couple weeks ago I was accepted for the 2020 Player’s Choice! This is like the Extreme Mustang Makeover except I get to choose my mustang... kind of. On August 3rd I’ll be bidding on one of these 193 mustangs. On Instagram quite a few people asked me how I was going to choose which mustang(s) bid on. Honestly, it’s hard to tell from such a short video but surprisingly I was able to narrow it down pretty fast. I wasn’t able to show all of them in this video otherwise it would of been a few hours long 🤣
    I look at soundness, temperament, and movement as my most important categories. Then I start to consider HMA, height, and age. Then color, and finally gender.
    I’m hoping to upload a lot for this makeover, this is just the first! Let me know your thoughts and what other kinds of videos you’d like to see.

    Wish you could do a video on conformation specifically on the others like 1,13, 19, 49, 133, 167 (or others but I'm curious what you think of 19 and 49. Judging by what you said in the video, you wouldn't get them but I'm still just curious as to other thoughts you would have on them. Especially 49.)

    • @SamVanFleet
      @SamVanFleet  5 лет назад +3

      The video would of been hours long if I did too many of them haha! I loved #1- actually was in my top 10. My friend Craig got that one! 49 was OK, didn't make my top 40 list though. Jason Lancaster got that one. I'd have to re-watch that one's video, but I have in my notes that he crashed into the panel so probably not. Only because there's 193 options and the few that jump into the panels, even though the chance is small, may of gotten an injury and that's not a risk I want to take when there's so many other options

    • @jerricho11

      Hej Ida! Känner som du! Som jag förstått det så drivs o samlas många tusen vilda mustanger in på uppdrag av USAs regering då man vill använda marken till att tjäna pengar på. Några mustanger köps privat för jättelite pengar o resten (avskyvärt) går helt enkelt till slakt. Det är så fruktansvärt sorgligt med dessa vackra vilda ponnyn. Det skär i hjärtat.

      there's too many wild ones and theyre considered 'pests' by a lot of farmers and ranchers. Its usually the govt that rounds them up and they get them to homes rather then being killed by locals who want them gone.

    • @idaolsson4825
      @idaolsson4825 5 лет назад

      CanteringThroughLife I guess thats good at least that they don’t just kill all of them😕

    • @SamVanFleet
      @SamVanFleet  5 лет назад +6

      Hi Ida. I just put whatever Christine said into google translate... totally incorrect information. They do NOT get sent in huge shipments to slaughter. That's so far from the truth. There isn't enough land and resources so they need to gather them every once in a while to keep the herd sizes within reason. From there, these horses go into holding facilities where they are really well taken care of and fed every single day. From there, they either are available for adoption, go to some program to help get them adopted, or go live in long term holding which is huge grass fields where they are still taken care of. As far as the gathers go, it's kind of like herding any other animal. They set up a big corral, and then slowly drive them into there, or, if they're all really suffering on the land, they put food and water in the corrals to have them come in because there isn't always enough food for them to scavenge which is another reason for some gatherings.

    I adore chestnuts. My gorgeous Thoroughbred is a chestnut mare. She's built like a Quarter horse and as a result never races. She's got an indapendent spirit, but if you build a bond with her and work as a team instead of just telling her what to do and expecting obedience. Working with her is a constant conversation and I actually love that. She might argue with me occasionally, but she's not nasty. It takes a lot for her to threaten in any serious way.

    I've trained a fair share of horses on my own before, a lot of them were flighty and completely untouchable but will now come trotting up to see you in the pasture, but most of them were quite domestic and level headed. I'd LOVE to work with a mustang, but I have never dealt with a horse who was truly wild before. I would never adopt one until I felt 110% confident in my abilities and I knew I was prepared to take on the training. What are your thoughts on this? What was it like training your first mustang?

    have done Equintana a few times (Australian mustang makeover basically) and every year I do the semi-local makeovers. and I always hope to get a taller, fuller build. I don’t really have a preference for gender, but I never get one under 15 hands. (I’m quite tall, so this is just what is ideal for me.) I prefer 5 year olds, but I have taken a six year old who did very well. I never pick injured ones for obvious reasons, and for me I think is very important for me to get a horse who carries himself well, and thinks before he acts.
    Thank you so much, you pointed out some things I don’t normally think about!

    No offense but I don’t understand why encouraging the deportation of mustangs. They are wild animals, used to larges places, not « domesticated » horses. They should be able to keep on running free. Also, the stress they must undergo is unimaginable, parked inside theses small areas, separated from their herd.
    Maybe I’m wrong but unfortunately, a lot of the time, they are brutally captured (during the rounds up), some gets hurts, pushed through traps, foals get separated, sometimes one horse of the herd avoid the trap but stay wandering alone in the desert.
    I really do hope the mustangs you are lookin at did not went through all of that. They are wild animals and we should think of them before we try to turn them into a good and nice horse we can ride on Sunday.
    Anyway, good luck with your horse and take good care of it.

      There's not enough land and resources for them. If there weren't gatherings, many would die from starvation. When they're in holding facilities, they're kept with many other horses. They're only separated for these minute long clips. They have the good life in holding- food 24/7 and fresh water, instead of starving to death in overpopulated herd management areas.
