For grouting i would recommend misting existing slabs so whole surface is wet pre grouting, keep the grout to a workable consistency and rember the water ratio, invest in a washboy and sponge its a must with cement based grouts. I could see the grout was going off to quick.with a wash boy it allows you to clean the existing grout around the joint and surface of slab it also allows you to take off any existing residue aswell. A recommended grout i like to use is fugapave its workability is great maybe on the next patio give it a go. 😀
