I find it incredible that in a video about setup and payoff in LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, there was no mention of the TANK!! Especially since that was the only one I could remember off the top of my head :D

You did an amazing job on this video, Pietro! I never thought about Life is Beautiful as a two act structure with a
three act design. The wife symbolizes a dream girl to the protagonist. I view this movie as true love, where unconditional love can survive the most difficult times. Setups and payoffs work together like intent and goal. I will share this video with the director and with my screenwriting circle. I can tell you poured your heart in making this video. Thank you for sharing your dream and passion with us. This is a wonderful video that explores a beautiful movie! 🎬🎥🌟🙏🙌

Hot Fuzz is a movie full of setup and Payoff. One example I can think of right now is the sea mine. At around the beginning of act 2, Nick Angel and Danny Butterman confiscate a sea mine - that was thought to be deactivated - from an old farmer who simply collected it. At the finale, after Danny is shot by one of the bad guys, Angel kicks a wastebasket to the guy's head and knock him into the sea mine, activating it and blowing up the whole police station.

You posted this video onto one of the fb groups and I commented on how great this video is. You replied but I forgot to get back to you and it's been plaguing me for the last few days as I couldn't find the fb post so thought I'd comment on here. You asked if there were any other types of videos I'd like to see or subjects I'd like to see covered. You did such a great job breaking down this film in such a simple way so I guess from a screenwriting perspective I'd like to see more breakdowns of scripts/films that dont stick to the normal 'rules' of script writing. Scripts that really stand out like Life Is Beautiful did. I loved the idea of the setup and payoff and am keeping it in mind when planning and outlining my own stories. Setups and payoffs are a small but important part of a story , so if there are other aspects that are essential to creating a great screen play then breakdowns of those techniques alongside real film examples would be great to see. I've watched many screenwriting youtube videos but they usually outline the technique but dont go into detail and dont show you how they run through the entirety of a film and their effect on a film. Whereas your video explains setups and pay offs, explains how important they are to a script and how they help it stand out, and then you breakdown and detail how setups and payoffs work all the way through Life is Beautiful. You didnt show one or two scenes , you broke the whole film down and rebuilt it using the setups and payoffs. I bought Life is Beautiful because of this video and watched it the other day and absolutely loved it. Obviously Schindler's list is an amazing film but I think Life Is Beautiful should also have the same status as an amazing piece of cinema surrounding the atrocities of the concentration camps. Anyway I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to learning more!

Sam, thank you so much for taking the time to write back. You have no idea how encouraging this is for me. I'm glad you discovered and loved Life is Beautiful through the channel. And my plan for the channel is very much in line with what you're describing. I'll be alternating short writing tips with in depth analysis of movies, so you won't be disappointed. Consuming great content like the videos you mentioned is great, but in the past I've consumed way too much content when I could have been writing instead. My goal is to produce content that leads to actionable steps you can take to further your writing career. I'd love to learn more about your screenwriting journey. Feel free to send me an email anytime, you can find a message link at writesomethinggreat.com - Have a great writing day!

@@writeforanimation hard to put anything in the same manner as Life Is Beautiful, especially animated. I apologize the only answer I can think of with good setup / payoff would be the original Toy Story. But I’d enjoy a Wreck It Ralph video more, lol. You do you, and thanks!
