"Dirt" is made up of clay silt and sand. Sand settles fast like within minutes and then silt after an hour or so and clay floats for a while like up to two days.
You are comparing two different kinds of filters. The fact that one is home made is irrelevant. The sponge filter is a biological filter. The other filter is a water clarity and purification filter. They obviously going to give different results.
i did one, after fluval keep rising the price up. I use an old large plastic box with a large cap, drill many holes of the side to suck water in . filled the box with foam, carbon etc, and the close the lid, drill a top, put a pump, and immerse both under water, works a magic. it is internal pump, but i have plenty of space. and it save me £££ and i do not break the easy broken ceramic shaft and it is easy to change the filters. i replace those cheap internal filter with a bigger casing to hold more poo so i do not have to change it every week and it works.
That's interesting. now I'm wondering if you set up a control tank with just an air bubbler and no filter at all, how long would it take for the tank to clear up. I only ask this because I was recently setting up a tank rinsing new gravel in a bucket. I got called to pick up my kid so I left 5 gallons of water so murky that I could not see my hand in the water and came back an hour later and the water was clear enough to see the gravel on the bottom.
I rather get the Beneficial Bacteria than poop dirt cleaner.. Beneficial bacteria is more important than poop cleaner.. You can always syphon the dirt/poop.. So Sponge filter is the best choice.
I use sponge filter as extra biological filter , so i have one filter as quickly start a quarantine tank :-) Have couple huge main filters, of course it's possible to make filters which would polish water better :-) Have never had any dirt directly in tank as you do, never seen it before 😂
That’s cool respect, but by the time I take building my own spong filter and buying all the Materials I think you would save time and money just buying a spong filter
This is what happends when you use the wrong or no airstone in your sponge filter...you need lots and lots of tiny bubbles instead of big gulping bubbles for a sponge filter to work propperly. The smaller the bubbles the more water they bring up with them. Big water bubbles just go up and not take the water with them...
I don’t know what’s the purpose of this video. It neither described the differences between the two types of filters nor explained how to build the diy filter.
that sponge filter ships to my door for 5 dollars. are you claiming that doing the diy one will coast less? and if so how much less, you wanna save real money? don’t even buy a fish tank, just use a lowes bucket. air? waste of money. who can afford that. just blow into the line by mouth. infact don’t even buy fish. just put some pond water in the bucket. its free!!! you can watch the little bugs develop and stuff. infact, don’t even bother. just get rid of it all and start bird watching. .
di naman yan totoo kase yung air pump di naman yan humihigop.. puro pabuga lang ang function nyan, Kung gusto nyo ng nakakalinis talaga, mag Top filter kayo
It's crazy you bothered to build a filter which barely keeps up as a mechanical filter, and is much worse as a biological filter, than something which is dirt cheap already.
nooooot really dude. each type of filter works in a different way for -different- needs. summing it down. -this- homemade filter has Holes placed at the Bottom for the water to Pass thru Solely the 'wool' type Filtration pad. this works in its on way. and no. its not BS. i know this as i done the same using the stock standard design you get in Pet shops. - Water pass thru media and wool foam you go back up pipe with the Air bubbler place in the middle. this was from a 'Powerade powder' container and cut a Center hole for pipe and slots for water to go through the lid, it works as well as a Store product. as for the Sponge, is good for small aquatic animals and fry plus you have Water Circulation going with extra 'filtration' mainly used in Hot areas like countries/states around the earths Equator
Neither of those filters removed much of anything. Most of the dirt just settled to the bottom of the tank.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
No sht Sherlock, that’s what water changes and siphons are for
@Jeager Kej you don't need to siphon anything. Mulm is beneficial for microorganisms and plants

U have to clean the tank no substitute of that
Sponge filter cleans & looks good in tank

Both the filters just settled the dirt down but bio filter works better with fish because it adds benefitial bacteria to tank

An airstone without the filter will only move dirt arround...that's why it's called a FILTER ...
Thank you. As long it easy to clean back the sponge. It ok for me.

Superb video can you plzz show how you made that filter?
Can you explain me where are the holes at your home made filter?
That's where the dirt go to as it they are absorb by the filter.
On the side of the of the container about bottom 1/3 of the way up, around the charcoal layer, you can see them before he pours in the water.
@@jeagerkej3171 i think it’s wrong to do that at that point
@@theocharisnystas3565 Why would it be, sponge filter works the same way
@@jeagerkej3171 because when the water enters in the filter that first contact that you want to have is with the sponge not with the other materials
Very cool I love you your this work filter thank you bro you my love
Love you too bro!
A sponge filter is for biological filtration not particulate, it will filter larger particles but not the small stuff.
The real diff is diy filter is also giving u mechanical filtration + bio media benefits
Looka like the homemade one had smaller air bubbles that allow more suction/flow.
Did it have an airstone, what caused the bubbling discrepancy?
Sir your doing great job for new people's in this hoby.
That’s cool respect, but by the time I take building my own spong filter and buying all the Materials I think you would save time and money just buying a spong filter
Keep it up and give us best tips
Thanks and sure 😊
Yes bro it’s work well 😉❤️
Good to hear

Love your channel
🫡 thanks!
you have to do the hols at the top of the lid not so low
Thanks for the comparison bro
☺️☺️☺️
Very cool! Great job 😁
Thanks 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I will try too 😄
All the best
Diy is always best 👍
Thanks!!!!!!
Both did good but the DIY one is harder to clean because of the sponge u used
Super intéressant. J'essayerai d'utiliser celui de gauche dans mes vidéos
Are you from Pakistan???
Buena idea compy
I don’t know what’s the purpose of this video. It neither described the differences between the two types of filters nor explained how to build the diy filter.
The actual sponge filter worked better to me.
Use top filter guys it's relatively cheap and hassle free...
The floss filter is better it more clear
😎😎
🫡
Diy 😍
😊😊
Jehmco box filters are 5 bucks each…
❤
Bro thought he did something
ok

Buseeet ternyata awratornya gak main main
Это не фильтр воду очистил, это грязь осела в обоих банках.
sponge bob wins
It's crazy you bothered to build a filter which barely keeps up as a mechanical filter, and is much worse as a biological filter, than something which is dirt cheap already.
The music is awful.
naaahhh........top filter still the best
Pake filter aja ga kesedot mimpi pake bio foam
Best one is sponge filter, ur diy filter is waste
Wow there both great I love sponge filters lol
Me too!!
sponge filters are not mechanical they are biological and take time to work ,,any filter would be better than them
Rendum waste.. .. dirt got settled at bottom dude
Tinggal beli susah amat hidup lu
Clickbait 🤡
Sorry for that
nooooot really dude.

Yee but dat 1 is uglee
Yes box filters are much better at mechanical filtration
