When I read that if you wanted to follow Jesus you had to hate your family, I had to dig deeper. And deeper I did dig. Finally, I came across an article that put things into perspective. The word 'hate' is not an angry word. It can be but doesn't have to be. Hate simply means to separate. You can separate in peace or anger. So now much scripture makes sense. We have messed up our languages badly, so much so that meanings get lost. An example of this is 'I forgive you'. Well, I learned that 'forgive' means 'to send away'. So, why would I send away someone, unless something is missing. How about 'I forgive you your sins'? You send the sin away. Caregiver: a relatively new word. Up to a generation ago it was caretaker. Care is not loving. It's akin to worry, as in the song 'Pack up all you cares and woes'. Why would you give care to someone. They already have enough cares. Relieve the burden and take some away. Humankind is a sexist term. It eliminates the female. Man is a non-sexual term. It represents both male and female. There are two sub categories; humus man and woe man. Hence: human and woman. Humus man is from the ground and woe man is taken from man. Seriously, much of the English language needs to be straightened out, or meanings will be lost forever. Two things that are changing our language negatively are the phone (texting) and wikipedia, which is extremely biased.

    Thank you Ari!!
That has made sense of a verse which troubled me.
I also love the story of the reconciliation of Jacob and Esau and that they both bury their father. Such a picture of unity.
