    Okay, so tonight I went to Walmart to get me some popcorn. Once I got my popcorn I just decided to walk around and see what else I may want to buy. I get to the electronic section and THERE THEY ARE!!!! I picked up Karate Champ and Bad Dudes for $5 each and then after watching this review and a few others I went back and got Pacman for around $26. I couldn't help myself!

      That's awesome, justincredible214! They're still cranking out new models, but it's great that you were able to snag some of the older ones for clearance prices. 😋 Glad you found us, and hope you'll subscribe to check out much more GenX-inspired content!

    This is the first time Karate Champ for the NES has ever been re-released! That's true of several of these My Arcade Micro games. It's quite cool.

      Indeed it is! Do you have a collection, or just thinking about it?

      @@GenXGrownUp I've been sort of "collecting" modern implementations of NES games (e.g., Virtual Console), and just found out about these, so I do plan to get them as I work my way through chronologically. Karate Champ is the earliest, unless they have more coming.

    Why are here so much guys, which are hating about the NES-Rom? Its not just the same, like to old ones, but its a nice decoration and even more its playable. And its very hard to make the old analog versions working on a modern system like these, so this is one of the best solutions, even though buying an original arcade cabine would be the very best..

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  4 года назад

      I understand what you're saying, Lou. But here's the thing -- they're not called "My NES" or "NES Classics." They're called "My Arcade" and "Arcade Classics." And so, when it's advertised as the arcade game but has an NES game in it, it's automatically under scrutiny. NES ROMs on their own are great, but it's a bit of bait-and-switch when you promote a product as an arcade experience and then deliver something different.

      Hauptkommissar Lou I have one I’m happy they made them with USB port so when the batteries go dead you can keep playing

    I don’t get the NES ROM usage. Licensing issues hardly make sense because wouldn’t Nintendo versions be harder to get rights for? I love the look of those but all the mini cabs’ price points scared me away.

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  5 лет назад +1

      They are definitely steep, Mur. You've gotta want them as collectibles first and foremost, because taking it off the shelf to play one game vs jumping to to thousands in an emulation environment on my PC is a non-starter. And it's already emulation in the little unit, so nobody's gonna cry, "Purist!" at me for emulating! 😀

    Hey Jon have you ever thought reviewing G1 Transformers figure's like the Earthrise 2 Pack Sky Warp and Thundercracker or the Siege Astro train or the Master Piece Devastator ?

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for asking, Anibal. As an older GenX'er (1969) I missed the Transformers mania of the late '80s because I was already in high school by the time they became a big deal here in North America. If we cover them on GenXGrownUp, it'll be one of the other guys with more knowledge of the franchise than me. 😀

      @GenXGrownUp  5 лет назад +1

      Glad I could help, Cyko. Yeah, many of these I'm finding are NES ROMs, but not all. Some are redesigned versions of the ROM (still not original, but better than NES) and still others do have the real McCoy.

    Make me think this unit might be programmable since it got a usb port, you might be able to add and erase NES ROMS! DRAG N DROP!

    Unfortunately, my local Walmart doesn't have any of these now, for some odd reason. They used to, even the Tiny Arcade ones. I find it a bit disappointing that the My Arcade company isn't using the actual roms from the original games instead of NES ports. In regards to the "Karate Champ", there's no reason why the voices should have been left off. What I want to see is an accurate "Rampage" one. That's my game. I have 144 actual ROM ports of original arcade games for MAME and Emuloader, though I don't have those for these two games.

    I grew up playing Karate Champ on NES playing two player with my brothers and our friends. It was cool for the two player mode, but sucks as a single player game. It would have been cooler if this was two player.

      @@GenXGrownUp If you mean the Street Figher II, Contra and Space Invaders ones? I bought the Space Invaders and it is awesome, mimicking the projected screen, beautiful artwork and all.
      Street Fighter II and Contra are two very ugly cabinets, but I know they were like that originally, so it makes sense. I don't have much nostalgia for Contra, but awesome to see the correct aspect ratio (I guess it is a widescreen tipped 90 degrees, but hopefully you can get an unstretch mode). Street Figther II, cool and all, but not really my cup of tea- I got too many iterations of that game.
      We need more.
      A real arcade rom Bubble Bobble supporting the link method like Street Fighter.
      I would like for them to be able to play link with other cabinets that does not contain the game (like the DS could do) - upload the game temporarily and execute as player 2 - THAT would be awesome (of course the other console needs the appropriate number of buttons).
