"Knots" in the back and tight upper traps is such a common problem that many people don't think to mention it. Of those that do, many assume that this is a fact of life. I hear frequently of people that have suffered from knots for years - only experiencing temporary relief after massage or heat - that have never had them addressed properly by a structural chiropractor.
In this video I show an adjustment of one of the upper ribs. This common misalignment is often thought to be a persistent "muscle knot" and often this condition does feel better after massage but returns soon after.
Alternatively, chiropractors working in a "subluxation" mindset will often label this as a long thoracic nerve problem and thus do the wrong types of adjustments again bringing only temporary relief.
The key to actually resolving this problem is specific (meaning exactly in the right place and exactly in the right direction) adjustments and posture correction.
I really would like to get checked for this.
How do I know if I've actualy strained my rohmboid, traps, or serratus posterior muscles, or if it is the back upper rib hinges slightly having been jammed? How can I differenciate between these different possibilities? They do seem to be connected.
loushka128 they are connected and usually go hand-in-hand. This is something I determine through analysis/examination.
