Sorry for the disappointment guys! I will share with you my travel journey and how I’ll be preparing for IMAT 2022, because I now know all about the process!
Thanks for sharing your story, it takes confidence to discuss shortcomings. Every loss is a gift, I am happy to see you excited about the future! Enjoy your trip
Did you get into Milan? I think discussing shortcomings might be even more important than achievements. I’m definitely excited for the future and the effort I’ll be able to put into the test next year!
Hey there. Nice to meet a fellow American who's considering medical school in Europe. I haven't completely committed on Italy but it is on my list. I'm prepping for the IMAT in 2023 as well as the MCAT here in the states. I'm in my 30s though so I hope that doesn't put me at a disadvantage. I'm considering Bologna and Padua as my top choices.
Medical school in Europe is the way to go! At least in my opinion. It’s good to have options though, good luck with the mcat! I don’t believe being older puts you at a disadvantage, just make sure you really focus on studying because the imat is geared towards students who have just graduated, so they have freshly studied the topics covered on the exam. Bologna and Padua are both very good! Bologna would be one of my top choices as well. Good luck!
I am applying for Turin, Bologna and two other universities in Italy andy test is in 10 days hope you get into med school this year and the rest of the people who are attending the test
Oooh! Sapienza will be great. That was one of the schools I was looking at last year. I really hope this years test is easier 😅 when I was taking last years test I was like what the heck this is way harder than all of the previous tests. Wishing you good luck :)
I hope so too! Sapienza had a really high score this year. I’ll keep you updated! I’m going to spend A LOT more time studying because I didn’t study enough last time.
They gave the instructions in English! Sometimes it was a little hard to understand, but if you’re unsure about something make sure to ask for clarification.
I felt like this test was super hard too! I was talking with my friends who took it and they thought so as well. Hopefully this means next years will be an easy one. My top choice was Torino. Will you try again for Padua next year?
@@DestanyShelton definately will try again! I’m also applying to my countries medical schools again. But Italy would be the best option for me cause we don’t speak/teach in english in my country since I’m from Europe
@@DestanyShelton definately will try again! I’m also applying to my countries medical schools again. But Italy would be the best option for me cause we don’t speak/teach in english in my country since I’m from Europe
That’s a really good question! I would say minimum $10,000. If you’re going to be living in a bigger city like Rome or Milan where the rent is a lot higher than $15,000. The tuition for school is super cheap, but you’re only allowed to work 20 hours a week on a student visa, so you have to have quite a bit of money saved up for the cost of rent and everything.
@@DestanyShelton I do not think you need that much money..... I live in Spain which is kind of similar to Italy in economic means. I'd say you need about 9000€ a year if you were living in a big city where you'd rent a room for about 400€ and pay about 50€ for the expenses of that house such as electricity, etc and 300€ including food, transport, etc. If you lived in southern Italy like Bari, the money you'd have to take way less money. Renting a room there is about 175-320€, the money you'd need would be about 7440€ (considering the room is worth 270€). Anyway, it depends on what of a luxurious life you want to live there. What made you think it is that expensive?
Hello! If you don't mind me asking, why did you choose Turin? Thank u for making this video😭😭 it comforts me in some way. I'm taking the IMAT next year, and maybe I will be choosing Bologna. Further, I wish you the best of luck and I hope you will get in next year😭🙏🙏
I chose Turin for a lot of reasons. I wanted to live in a big city, but Rome and Milan were too expensive. I wanted to live in northern Italy, and the location of Turin is amazing. Very close to France, Switzerland, and the sea. It’s a very well connected city which is nice. Other than that I liked the program and the university.
It depends on so much! My biggest recommendation is to take a practice test using one of the recent IMAT exams, and analyze your weaker areas. Focus on those and improving that, and then work on everything else. Keep taking practice exams periodically (every 1-2 weeks) to make sure you are improving and that you can continue to find your weaknesses.
@@DestanyShelton hello friend can you tell me that imat test how many percent follow Cambridge syllabus please ans me I will be really thankful to you 🙂
Yes! I’m going to look into ways that I can make a group! I also made a video about what I’ll be using to study this year. I’ll be making an updated one halfway through the year probably as well!
@@DestanyShelton Hey! I think it’d be cool if you made a discord server solely for IMAT students where we can dump resources, help each other out and ask questions regarding the application process, uni choices etc.
You don't need to apologize it happens better luck next time you got this dont worry and by the way imat guide book Is a good book to practice questions?
The book has its pros and cons. There are some mistakes in it, but the questions are very similar to the ones you see on the imat so I found that really helpful!
awww I'm sorry. Definitely unfortunate that we didn't get in last year, but we can learn from our mistakes and be better this year! I am sure we will both get in :) what university did you apply to?
ooh! that's hard to decide. I would say that Bologna is an amazing school, so if you feel like you can prepare enough to get in, then I would go there. On the other hand choosing to go to Turin or Pavia will be (possibly) easier to get into and therefore your chance of not getting in again is lowered. Keep me updated on what you choose!
I am thinking about Turin or Milano. But Turin’s faculty of medicine is located at another town from Turin about an hour and half. May I ask why you pick Turin?
Hello! It is very inconvenient that Turin’s medical facility is far away. I chose Turin for the location, price, program, and I just love the city. It also works well with my partner who is looking at an engineering program in Turin. From what I’ve seen the price of rent in Turin has increased quite a bit, so that’s a big unfortunate. I still plan on going there though! If you’re confident in Milan, I would 100% recommend going there! Those schools are amazing. Hope that helps!
Yes! The dates should be released soon. I know for the university of Torino you have to pre-apply before you pre-enroll, so make sure you look at that depending on the school you’re interested in. Once the deadlines get posted I’ll make a video about it!
Have u looked at any of the private unis in Milan the admission tests are in Feb but after the first year you can transfer to one of the public unis, one guy i know made a video about his transfer from humanitas to ims milan so it is possible.
The private unis are SUPER expensive, I did come across an option where maybe I can do a different English degree for a year, but I think I’d rather travel.
Mam i will also apply for imat next year but I am too scared for that I am able to clear that exam OR not And also I want to contact to you for how can I able to prepare for imat exam 2022 Please reply Mam
Yes! I will probably end up making a video about it because it's a lot to type out. The main thing I wish I did differently was have a study schedule in advance, I only studied for like a month so not enough time for everything. I would also recommend taking it in your home country or somewhere you are comfortable. When I took the test I was in Italy for the first time and traveling alone for the first time, so it was a bit overwhelming.
Past exams! Also there is an Anki flashcard set from entermedschool. It’s not my favorite, but I use it every once in a while. I’m still trying to figure out better solutions myself. If I find one that seems to be working I’ll update you!
do u have a bachelors degree? I am a college student in the US but I am thinking about dropping my current program to apply to medical schools abroad. I am not a fan of my current uni in the US but my parents are against me “dropping out” :/ what has your experience been like?
I don’t have a bachelors degree! I went to university out of state (I’m from Indiana but I went to Florida State University), and I planned on doing medical school there. I was supposed to get in state tuition for my second year of undergraduate, but I didn’t. I had already been looking at programs for medical in Europe for after I got my degree. Since I didn’t get the in state tuition I decided to drop out and pursue medicine in Italy! Honestly best decision of my life. With my dad I kind of just told him what I was doing and he wasn’t happy about it, but he came around to the idea. I didn’t get into Italy last year, which changed my plans quite a bit. I’m glad I didn’t get in though because I’ve now been traveling for almost 4 months this year and I’ll be taking the IMAT again this year. If you do actually consider dropping out make sure you have a back up plan. What would you do if you didn’t get in is primarily the question I’d be asking. I was getting high 50s low 60s on the previous IMAT tests and last year I didn’t get in. You never know what could happen!
Overall I think medical schools abroad are an amazing thing. Many countries have English programs which make it more accessible. If you graduate from a medical within the EU then there is a lot of flexibility in moving around the EU for residency. Most of the time medical school is a lot cheaper in Europe as well. If you want to go back to the states just make sure it’s a university recognized in the states and then you’ll have to take the USMLE’s and match into residency in the states after you graduate abroad. It’s a lot more difficult for someone outside of the states to match for residency within the US, but if you work really hard and do well on your USMLEs then there is a chance.
