Paige! I just finished my final exam for this semester (at least until September...) and can I just say, you were my number one motivation this term. I've never worked this hard. Watching your videos has motivated me and helped me when I felt down or like I couldn't continue anymore. So far, I got a 1.0 (a first) in my maths module, my programming exam went really well, and even today, the exam I dreaded the most went okay. I just want to thank you so much. I can confirm that walking into an exam with no sleep is an utterly terrible idea. 3/5 of my final year exams were undertaken in a caffeine-induced zombie state, sadly nerves/last minute revision/paranoia are a thing. Miraculously it worked out okay for me, but I would not recommend, sleep is just as valuable as the time spent revising.

Man.... that rant really resonated with me. I am preparing for an exam of a theoretical class, and its notoriously hard to pass (sometimes less than 50%), and I really want to get it over with! Also, something that both my parents (with advanced degrees) told me many years ago: sometimes its better to go to a less prestigious Uni and get top grades than to go to a top Uni and get sub-par grades. Especially so if you are looking at an advanced degree, because once you get your advanced degree, no one really looks at your bachelor certificate any more. However, if you just want a Bachelor's and then to go out into the working world, then going to a top Uni would be the better option.
I'm having an extremely hard time revising for my exams ( 14 exams during 2 weeks), I currently have 5 days till the marathon begins and I'm honestly soooo burnt out, I still have so much to do but I am so down and tired and here I am rewatching old vlogs in the attempt to get me back in the mood to do some work! I'm a dentistery student. I follow your videos and rewatch them when i lack motivation. I dont find other motivational videos really... motivational! Lol. So you deserve more than the 100k ♡
On the grades at Cambridge thing- I can understand the logic, however outside oxbridge and some of the london universities most universities grade on specifications not a scale like at those 'top' unis, i.e. nationally it is decided and moderated how 'hard' it is to get certain boundaries, so there is no guarantee of a percentage of each cohort getting a certain amount, these are generally tried to be kept to the level of a oxbridge first to try and make sure each degree regardless of institution is equal. So whereas at Cambridge a certain % is guaranteed a first, i.e. the top of the top, only the very top of other universities manage to reach that mark, e.g. some smaller unis it is as low as 4%, at my university I was one of only 3 to achieve a 1st on my course. You are trying your best, I am sure you are doing better than you think, you are obviously very intelligent.
In my experience, I can firmly say that a 2:2 at Oxbridge would at the very least considered equivalent to that of a 2:1 at other russell group level unis. People know how hard your degrees our, and you'll forever have recognition of that across the world.
You deserve every single one of those 100k and many, many more! Your vlogs were what kept me revising during my exam period and the way you show your uni life is kept real, that's what I value most

You are right! Entering Cambridge is so though! In my opinion they have to have at least 2:1...and that basketball sound is really annoying!! especially when you study for an exam!!
I can relate to this 😂 it happens sometimes, when you're just not ready for an exam but you just have to give it your best! The thing is, I felt like this through most of IB 😂 but you only felt like this during your exams. So, props to you! hahahah
Those are just targets, if you look at examiner reports about 40% get a first in each phys/maths module rather than 20% recommend overall by nst in second year. Also third year is criterion rather than norm based so most people do end up with 2.1/1 third year :).

We were all the same mess during the exam terms....I can safely say that I felt almost every emotion you felt :) :) including the annoying basketball noise (in my case it was the squeaky swing noise from the park next to my home) :) :)
Getting a 2:2 at Cambridge is probably better then getting a 1st somewhere else. So don't let grades get you down - plus in the real word people don't care how knowledgeable you are it's all about whether you can do the job or not. A prime example of this is the doughnuts who go on 'the Apprentice' - many of the participants have gone to top universities, however, lack common sense which is just as important as being academic 👍
This. You already recognize you're at an elite university, and competing against other brilliant people is part of the price you pay by agreeing to go to it. Employers and grad schools know recognize that, and your 2:2 in Cambridge would definitely be worth more than a first somewhere else. The grading scale may seem harsh, but the unis need to find a way to separate students by ability within the program itself. A first wouldn't mean as much if so many people got it and it wouldn't be a good signal of aptitude. Becoming a small fish in a big pond is something that eventually happens to everyone at some point in their academic/career life. There will always be loads of people cleverer than you, and the sooner you realize that the less you'll get down on yourself and the more compassionate you'll be towards yourself.
- Sorry but this is absolute rubbish. This is an extremely elitist ‘Cambridge idealist’ view that simply doesn’t work in reality. Yes Cambridge is obviously the best as it’s the oldest and number one overall university BUT there are some incredibly amazing universities in the U.K. (red bricks and others) with outstanding teaching that I have experienced first hand that have equally tough grading system and are still very hard to get into (AAA*) It all depends on the subject and the career. For example universities that aren’t traditionally at the top but specialists in a particular subject like RVC for vet medicine or NTU for Art for example are very sought after by particular employers. You can’t seriously say a 2.2 at Cambridge in vet medicine for example is BETTER than a first at RVC in the same subject. University is extremely tough and people work very hard to get firsts/2:1s at ANY university and their achievements should not be devalued by a 2:2/3rd JUST because it’s from Cambridge.

Getting a 2:2 at Cambridge is probably better then getting a 1st somewhere else. So don't let grades get you down - plus in the real word people don't care how knowledgeable you are it's all about whether you can do the job or not.
A prime example of this is the doughnuts who go on 'the Apprentice' - many of the participants have gone to top universities, however, lack common sense which is just as important as being academic 👍
This. You already recognize you're at an elite university, and competing against other brilliant people is part of the price you pay by agreeing to go to it. Employers and grad schools know recognize that, and your 2:2 in Cambridge would definitely be worth more than a first somewhere else. The grading scale may seem harsh, but the unis need to find a way to separate students by ability within the program itself. A first wouldn't mean as much if so many people got it and it wouldn't be a good signal of aptitude. Becoming a small fish in a big pond is something that eventually happens to everyone at some point in their academic/career life. There will always be loads of people cleverer than you, and the sooner you realize that the less you'll get down on yourself and the more compassionate you'll be towards yourself.
- Sorry but this is absolute rubbish. This is an extremely elitist ‘Cambridge idealist’ view that simply doesn’t work in reality. Yes Cambridge is obviously the best as it’s the oldest and number one overall university BUT there are some incredibly amazing universities in the U.K. (red bricks and others) with outstanding teaching that I have experienced first hand that have equally tough grading system and are still very hard to get into (AAA*) It all depends on the subject and the career. For example universities that aren’t traditionally at the top but specialists in a particular subject like RVC for vet medicine or NTU for Art for example are very sought after by particular employers. You can’t seriously say a 2.2 at Cambridge in vet medicine for example is BETTER than a first at RVC in the same subject. University is extremely tough and people work very hard to get firsts/2:1s at ANY university and their achievements should not be devalued by a 2:2/3rd JUST because it’s from Cambridge.
