In this week’s episode, I test out Luminar Neo's new GenErase tool on some of my favorite landscape photos of 2023. Photo cleanup is something I perform at the end of almost every photo I edit. There's almost always a few things that can be removed in order to create a clean final edit. And in this video, I review the new GenErase tool inside Luminar Neo; I discuss what I like about it, what I don't like about it, and how I can see myself using it within my workflow in the future. I hope you enjoy this week's video and as always thanks so much for watching! - Mark D.

I have used this a few times and it is magic. One way to speed things up, rather than remove one large piece in one go, it is better to to do it in small gradual steps, this prevents the computer of trying to over process a huge amount of pixels. Results will be better.

Yep - I agree. Smaller portions of the image is the way to go👍

I just tried this on a photo that even Photoshop generative AI couldn't fix. A pair of women, large in the photo, that completely marred the impact of a period reenactment photograph. Success. Next test was a situation where I was shooting a sports scene in a very dusty field and had failed to regularly clean my lens. Wonderful shot, but I can't tell you how many hours I spent removing the dust spots. Went back to an original of the shot and did the dust spot erase. Wish I'd had this three years ago! In my case, worth the cost.

Interesting and worth looking at. Whats amazing too is that it seems to offer time travel to the eighties and a Sony Sports Walkman has materialised on your desk ☺☺

Everything you stated about this can be done in PS with the new Generate AI and remove tool - I like that you get 3 options with each attempt in PS- You set it up so it lets you paint stop and paint again then then hit the check mark at the top to do the work all at once. I also think if you are attempting a large object to remove doing in smaller bits, helps.

This is amazing however I use photoshop genarative fill and just select my area with brush etc and it you leave it blank for it to fill in extra space and it generates 3 options for you in around 30 seconds and I've never had any problems with it and I've removed whole subjects and bushes with it. But I do think that this stuff is so wild and we are so lucky to have tools like this great video! 👍🏻

You do need to be on an updated version of photoshop I believe (version 24.5) 2023 anything like 2024 will work better 👍🏻

I rarely remove anything beyond maybe a speck of dust or a bird that just looks wrong. At MOST i remove stuff like a branch that cuts into the frame or a hanging lamp powerline that accidentaly (you notice, i often forget border control xD) cuts over the top bit of my shot. Lightroom is fine for dotty stuff n such, for the branches i quickly "edit in photoshop" and used the remover there as it always seems to be of the better or newest edition adobe has. I didnt like Luminar 4 when i tried looking for an editing software but in general its impressive what you can do, especially on easier situations its a one drag over stop shop for removal.
My biggest "issue" in general is that i cant get the Engineer or Perfectionist out of my head. Because i know what was there and see the slight differences of the removal, my brain thinks others will see this too. I struggle so much to get this habit out of my head "come on thats not real i faked that bit away" (goes also for color shift in leaves)... if i had one question, or maybe even topic for another video - its that. How to change your mindset from "i cant remove this, or change this, its not what i saw there" to "others dont know what i saw when they look at this picture".

4:27 in photoshop’s defense😅 you could choose for it not to take action after every stroke or sth like so

    • @jwalexsander
      @jwalexsander 6 месяцев назад

Yeah, just uncheck the Remove After each Stroke box. And to be frank, Luminar Neo's performance in this demonstration video was pretty underwhelming, both in terms of speed and final results.

I use similar tools with another software that you know well. I would have to try it with an image similar to yours, or with a copy of the fence image to check what result I can get.
I like to mention that in the hand of some "not too honest people" , some can erase you copyright as they can also erase or modify some element in someone else picutre and prentend it is not the same image at all. This the danger of enoying AI technology for good reason as well as for bad reason.

Just ran Topaz AI on a screen capture of the girl on the yellow lines. It didn't add the trees as your app did and is as good if not slightly better.

Its very simple, a photo blend to get pin sharp from front to back is not how the human eye sees it. But we do it. Just because software supports it, it doesn't mean you have to do it. Its a choice

Maybe it is slow because you have medium format files. I wonder if it would be faster with your crop sensor. It would be helpful for you to do the difference in your videos for medium format and others as theres no editing videos for medium format. Higher resolution sometimes makes gen fill not work. Is this the case for this with higher resolution medium format cameras? Did they make the program based on full frame sensors? All helpful things to know. And compared to what other programs? You left that out, so its not a fair comparison or review so it does not make me want to use the code to get it. Full transparency is needed.

Why bother! LrC & PS have these. I tried Neo when it came out. Wasted time going to and fro and it doesn't put your images back to LrC. Just an amped-uo version of Luminar. Wasn't impressed. It takes the joy out of "processing" images.

In times phones create stacked hdr, ai optimized and magically spot removed photos in a blink of an eye... Its really difficult to draw the line.
Is increasing only shadows over the line? Removing a plastic bag in a panorama? Removing people?
I don't say I like the way this is going, but I assume this is the way.
People get used to mobile phone perfection...

@@smartiefox256 Reality isn't perfect and photography, to me, is the capturing of reality: not perfection; "perfection" is what's making this world more and more artificial, unnatural and inhumane. But that's just me.

Artist such as Ansel Adam’s, dodge and burned his photo’s so I don’t think I would call it fake. Maybe not realty but photography is to capture the viewers mind with enough intrigue to direct you to the subject.
