This looks like DeWalt made this for Skill. I got the DeWalt about 4 years ago before they started making them smaller. I like the fence and set up and need the job site setup because my 'shop' is . . . well. ah, my back deck. So It gets pulled out of shed and put away.
      Keep up the good work.

Fun Fact / Saw Hack : The Dewalt fence fits on this SKIL and gets you another 5" Rip. However the height from the table to the bottom of the fence is different and leaves a GAP. However with creativity this can be fixed.

Time for a follow up on this saw, as Skil has made some improvements. Bought one this week from the local Menards and noticed that the newest ones on the floor came in a much cooler box, which was black with white lettering. Inside I discovered that there was a separate smaller riving knife included so they are now removeable. The throat plate is metal not plastic, and at least on mine, the fence is a nice perpendicular 90 degrees. Thanks for your initial review which got me looking at this saw in the first place.

watching this video, they must have made it bigger. I'm 6ft and the one in this video looks much lower than my saw is on me. It's a pretty comfortable height for me to work with. Also I think the fence capacity is wider than the 25" he mentioned. So they must have made a bunch of changes. Additionally, I got mine on black Friday from menards for $265. So be on the lookout for deals

25 years ago I worked in the “tool corral” at Home Depot. Even back then, these Skil table saws were packed with features the other big names didn’t have. They were half the price in many cases and more than double the features. They weren’t a super rugged job site saw, but really fit the bill for homeowners and light commercial use. Probably the biggest downside , was the name. Skil, once a leader in the power tool field , was considered sub-standard to many tradesmen. Glad I found your video, quite by chance, as I am in the market for a tablesaw for my handyman business, guess I will have to reconsider this old friend !

Testimony for the Skil Table Saw... I've been in the market for "budget" table saw and after watching your review and several others decided to purchase the Skil Table Saw. I just got it and spent the last couple of days making sure everything was square and properly aligned after swapping out the factory blade for a 60 tooth Diablo blade. The FIRST 2x4 I ripped I noticed that the saw seemed to bog down but figured I was just feeding it through too fast. I reset the fence to rip another slice off the board and it again bogged down at the same point in board. I knew there were no knots in the board so when checked to see if there was anything there I saw the problem. I had cut through a nail not once but TWICE. It was completely embedded below the surface of the board and being a commercial board from a big box store it never occurred to me there would be a nail in it. However, the saw and blade both survived so I don't know if that's a plus for the saw, the blade or both.

A 60 tooth blade is for cross cuts and plywood/fine finish on sheet goods.

I have this saw in New Zealand. If you look at the table bed there is a rabbet you can sit the handle of the rear collar spanner against when putting pressure on the front nut spanner. No need for a arbor lock, just use the rabbets. Changing blades is actually very easy when you use this feature.

Just purchased this saw and have been spending a fair bit of time getting everything squared up before I actually put it to work. I love the amount of adjustments that are available on this saw it is a definite upgrade from my last saw. The one issue I have so far is that the table seems to dip from the miter gauge to the blade, when I put a straight edge across the table perpendicular to the blade there is a definite gap that starts at about 1.5" from the throat plate on either side. Not sure if this will cause any issues but I am concerned that with smaller rip cuts it may cause the cut to be off 90°.
I really appreciate the content you put out and use many of your reviews/recommendations as I build up my tool selection.

Bought this saw about 6 months ago and I couldn't be happier with it for the price. Heck, half the more expensive job site saws seem like they don't have the same amount of features as this one. It is loud, especially in roughly 10x8 section of my basement that I work in so ear pro is a must. Even outside it's an annoying noise and I prefer to wear ear pro. Best money I've spent on a tool yet.

So I have this saw and I've had it for about 18 months. I only do occasional DIY stuff, but have used it on very hard Beechwood Butcher block where I resawed a 6 inch portion of a desk cut-off. And some regular 3/4 hard maple, both with no issues, amond other easier woods. I did install a Diablo combination blade and aftermarket mitre guage, but the saw is actually really good. I like it a lot, it's easy to use, very convenient being able to fold it up and put it in a closet. I got this saw after I had a Crafstman saw that was a total piece of junk. Uneven surface, nothing was square, the mitre slots were a proprietary T shape. I returned it. This Skil saw was only like 40 bucks more and it was night and day. Would 100% recommend.

You don't need a built in blade lock, just place a small piece of scrap wood so the tooth of the saw stops on it when you turn the wrench. I'd also recommend either slipping a pipe over the wrench handle or getting a longer handle wrench to increase your leverage. It will also be much easier on your back, this type of work is hard enough on it already.

Thanks for another great video. I'm semi-retiring this year and plan to do a lot more carpentry. Going to get rid of my basic table saw and pick up something new. This seems like a nice saw for a beginner but I'm more interested in something that will allow me to take my workworking skills to the next level.
I'd like to see you do a video on the top tools and give an example for base model, mid-level, and higher end. I'd be more interested in the mid-level but I'd like to see your recommendations for some higher end items: table saw, router, planer, miter saw, etc.
    thanks again

I make sure I can hang some weights off the bottom because a 4’x8’ sheet (or bigger) will want to flip the saw over due to friction on the table.

The Hercules saw is also another super solid machine. These two are practically identical. If you're in the market for a budget friendly machine it seems the Skil and Hercules ones are the best bangs for the buck right now. The rack and pinion are the best features for these. Especially since most portable saws major flaws are the fence systems.

Owned this saw for over a year now, put it through its paces. Hasn’t disappointed. You have mis-spoken about its dado capacity. It will accept a full dado stack, though not with the stock insert. Skil sells a dado throat plate but what’s the fun in not making a zero clearance or a dado plate. 👍 good review, came out after I bought mine but solidified the purchase.

I had to move 8 years ago, had to get a storage building to hold up some of our stuff till we got set up,I misplaced the fence for my tablesaw, so went and got a Porter cable 10", haved it on every job sense, still works very well, and I am the one that thought it wouldn't, last out the job.

Outside of the Tools that come with the saw, can one get a "narrow/slender wrench in to do the blade change? I have never liked those stamped steel "tools" that come with the saw. And as you said, the fit of the "tool" left something to be desired.

11:38 when you said it's extremely loud, will changing the blade reduce the noise or it's just the mechanism of the saw itself? Also, how loud is it compared to other saws that you have? I'm about to pull the trigger on this to place in my garage for DYI but I also don't want to bother my neighbors.

Of the high and low position of the fence, when would you ever use the upper position? I understand the lower position being at the level of the rest of the table to support the board you’re cutting.
