  • Fast guitarists like to boast about playing 20 notes per second. At those speeds, in the time it took you to read this, they could have played hundreds of notes! Manowar bassist Joey De Maio and guitarists Michael Angelo Batio has just released a new video where they play 30 notes per second. This is super human speed. Can I do it too? Let's find out.

Mozart is stupid......its ego talking. Like saying "oh, i reach the outer most cosmos and reach the notes from there"
Dude.....its called drugs........and honestly......its pretty much how almost all the greatest of music came to be. Music was better when people were getting high.

They're not even breaking 20 notes per second, never mind 30. Just because a couple of old coots play in unison with a sequencer backing track and make a wild claim in the title of a video, doesn't mean they actually got anywhere near it.
All you need to do is slow the clip down to 25% and then tap out each note using a bpm detector.

    • @Chekanchik

If you play right handed, can a person oscillate their right hand/finger/wrist hitting the string to play every note to achieve 30 nps? Four fingers for left hand can cover a lot of notes, but requires a unhuman like energy or rhythm like motion from the right hand to achieve the supposed 30 nps feat. Just my opinion.

You should listen to a guy called Matteo Mancuso.
He has a very distinctive right hand tecnique (some sort of fingerpicking, no pick) that he uses in different genres: hard rock, prog, fusion, jazz, blues, classical, etc. He can shred, even if he does not define himself as a shredder.
But, most of all, he is very musical and a very nice guy.

16th notes at 60 is 4 notes per second, so ... 128th notes at 60, or 64th notes at 120, or 32nd notes at 240, or 16th notes at 480 BPM is 32 notes per second. They start to play 64th notes at 70 BPM and go up.

  • @manuelpassarella

I can comfortably play 16 notes per second. Pushing it to 20 for short bursts and obviously only with patterns.

I used to play up to 27 nps, when I was playing Impellitterri when I was younger, now I am satisfied with 24 per second (both linear and repetitive sequences)... in all honesty I am fine with 155 bpm 32nds small triplets since I play hair metal, not metalcore or death metal or something ...

4:52 Unfortunately there is a mistake in the video 😂: if you play 1/64th notes with 30 bpm 4/4 time, you will play 8 notes per second, not 10. However if you increase the speed to 112.5 bpm, you will play 30 notes per second, so that's ok.
Or in other words: The brain must keep up with the speed of the fingers, which might become difficult under certain conditions 🥴.

Alexi Laiho being dead, I can only see Herman Li or Teemu Mäntysaari being able to do this.
But seriously, I sometimes watch Micheal Angelo Batio's videos. He's a practice monster. He's relentless. He talks and plays live for hours on end. I guess that's how you're the fastest shredder at 68 yrs-old.
