she paved the way for other New Wave Queens like Pat Benatar, Chrissie Hynde, Joan Jett, Annie Lenox, and The Go-Gos, and later artists like Cyndi Lauper and Madonna. Debbie was amazing.
Debbie Harry was a Goddess back in the late 70's early 80's. Wendy O. Williams of The Plasmatics got the mic ripped right out of her hands by this Blonde Bombshell.
@@guyinsf I think “back then” holds all the importance of your first statement. Wendy was ahead of her time, She don’t sell out.. she was just that good. I don’t blame her for performing on tv either... it’s about the music
I think it's more that a standard bit of their performance of "Rip Her To Shreds" at the time was for Debbie to "do" one of the breaks herself on the keyboards (as you see here). That meant Jimmy had to vacate the keyboards for that song. There are other songs from this gig where Jimmy is in his normal place. It's the same on another gig ("Blondie - Rip Her to Shreds - 1977 - Live") where you can see Jimmy on bass again (at 2'50). It should be noted that Jimmy played guitar on his solo album, "Heart on a Wall".
This place was hot! We went every Saturday night in the winter of 1978. Blonde, Ramones, NEVER got tired of seeing them 😊❤️
Clem Burke, one of the most underrated drummers ever
I've always thought that too.
One of the most overused comments ever.
And Moe.

long live Wendy O, the one that didn’t sell out
@@sloppyjoel Wendy went on Solid Gold, that's as mainstream as you could get back then.
@@guyinsf so what
@@sloppyjoel So she didn't entirely not sell out.

Jimmy Destri on bass
Debby had the Pat Benatar look before Pat Benatar.
Mean girls anyone?
Fuck off
Debbie was so beautiful. Thank goodness Andy and his Factory freaks never got hold of her and exploited her.
Jimmi Destri on bass?!
Post Gary Valentine, pre Nigel Harrison?
