If you want real temple vibe and spirituality pilgrim to the 5 elemental temple of lord Shiva (it's called the panchabhoota temples) spread across the mostly the southern part of India and 1 in Himalayas. All placed in the 78 and 79 longitudes.
Or the most sacred pilgrimage called the chardham pilgrimage which many Hindus dream about. It is a set of four Hindu pilgrimage sites in India, consisting of Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri and Rameswaram. Badrinath, Dwarka, and Puri are shrines of Vishnu, whereas Rameswaram is a shrine of Shiva.
Also these 4 are situated in the 4 borders of India creating a quadrilateral across India. These 4 temples will provide 4 entirely different spiritual experiences. Also plays an important part in the History of Yoga.
According to Hindu traditions the teachings of Yoga passed down from Lord Shiva to Patanjali (an incarnation of Adhishesha, the serpent bed of Vishnu or the king of Snakes) the Patanjali to Adi Shankara (through lineages of Gurus) and Adi Shankara consecrated 4 cardinal points across India to spread the spirituality.
These are not foreigner friendly holy cities like Pushkar, Pushkar is famous only among the locals of the state and among foreigners, in the real Hindu traditions and pilgrimage is among the bottom of the list.
If you want mind-boggling stone arts then there are 1000s across India,
    Hampi
    Hoysaleswara Temple
    Madhura Meenakshi
    Chennakesava temples.
    Etc

That is great information to share, thank you. We will be returning to India and will explore the south. In particular, I would be interested in learning of the history of yoga.
