    Love the way you show the maintenance on this machine. Keep them coming.

    Excellent video, I always use a Sharpie to write hours date and miles on my filters.

    Oil change doesn't look too bad on this. And I think your idea is sound with the oil, the 0 weight should help too since it gets so damn cold by you...
    You almost wonder why they don't have the correct dipstick stock? Maybe they want people over filling that triple since it'll get beat on so hard and maybe use some oil between changes? Very strange. Good call with the swap, I'll have to order one.
    Can't wait to hear your review on this machine!

    Looks a little more finicky for the regular fluid changes than the wolverines but al least you don't have CVT maintenance anymore. 👍

      The YXZ transmission fluid\filter change is definitely harder than the Wolverines, but this first service was harder than it should have been since Hercules put the spin-on oil filter. It's actually easier to work on otherwise. The engine is in the rear and working on that is a breeze, especially engine oil changes. I LOVE the fact that the YXZ engine doesn't share oil with a wet clutch, allowing me to use standard automotive oil and friction-reducing additives and that clutch material isn't circulating throughout the engine.

    The explanation should have been, Ultra platinum is badass oil 🤣

    What year is your machine? I know the new yxz1000 has a greater oil capacity.

    • @MassiveOverkill
      @MassiveOverkill  3 месяца назад

      It's a 2024. Believe it or not the engine oil capacity of 2.85 quarts is identical to the 2023 but the transmission oil capacity is what has more than doubled, going from 1.6 quarts to 3.6 quarts.

    Are you sure the manual specified oil Capacity is correct and the dipstick is too short. I have the 2024 and the oil from the factory is just shy of 3 quarts. I’ve read other people saying they’re putting in 3 1/2 to get it to register on the dipstick. I’m just paranoid the dealer I bought it from doesn’t know.

      I do not like the way the YXZ manual specifies how to check the oil. Per the manual if it's touching the bottom of the dipstick, you're good. That goes against every single vehicle I've ever check oil on whether it be wet sump or dry sump. Many like to see oil actually ON the dipstick, not just the very tip. Putting 3.5 quarts in is overfilling the engine and that oil will end up in your airbox. Those that don't have a problem overfilling are using an open-air crankcase vent. Go with 3 quarts MAX. That oil isn't magically going anywhere so if you know you put 3 quarts in and it doesn't show up on the dipstick, trust the fact that you actually put 3 quarts in and disregard what the dipstick says. Remember: Capacity is actually 2.75 quarts per the manual.

    wouldn t be easier to remove skid plate?

    • @MassiveOverkill
      @MassiveOverkill  Год назад +1

      On a lift, sure. Us peasants without a lift, not so much. I should have actually put a shallow pan under the oil filter but wanted to see how it went without removing the skid plate. The manual does call for removing the skid plate.

      Putting the skid plate back on is the absolute worst part of the job.

      I still have the RMAX but as soon as I get a roof rack on the YXZ and can test if it can carry all my camping\overlanding gear, I will probably be selling the RMAX. I love my RMAX, but the YXZ has an incredible ride in comparison and is so much more stable at speed and the bottom line, my wife isn't punching me in the shoulder going the same speeds in the YXZ as I do in the RMAX.

    I agree that Yamaha needs to come up with a better way. Just stupid how you have to check the oil on the YXZ. I was just told to warm the engine up to 140 degrees and the shut off and check it after 30 seconds. My Yamaha Raptor 700 is also stupid like this. They need to address this silly design.

      I'm using an RMAX dipstick in my YXZ. I think they learned from the YXZ and implemented improvements in the RMAX dipstick (although many complain about checking it as well but really there isn't an easier way to check a dry sump system).

      @@MassiveOverkill I agree you method is the easiest I have seen. Thank you!
