Really enjoying your video of the AZ trail. Most people start from the south and go north, but I love it that you started from the north and going south because seen the trail and the views from that direction or just stunning. Thank you for posting this.🎉
Nice hike. Love the video. I always start laughing when an AZT through hiker gets to the Grand Canyon, looks at the miles, and declares its going to be a couple of easy days! 🤣 Congratulations on surviving the SK climb! 👏
That aspen grove near the end of the video is stunning. I live in Colorado and thru hiked the CT in 2016. Retired in May and although I’d love to do the CT again, for some reason started obsessing over the AZT this week. This video is making a strong case for on Oct SB hike. Thanks for the info and inspiration.
@@davegleason8007 thanks for the comment Dave! I thru hiked the CT in 2022 and gotta say, that may be the prettiest trail I’ve hiked so far. That being said, my favorite trail will always be the AZT, and I definitely recommend thru or section hiking it one day!
Oh, hey! Take a mayonnaise packet and squirt it into a tuna packet. Good idea, I will probably do that on my next outing. Great video! Unbelievably gorgeous scenery. I've never hiked in the West.
That is a Kuhl Sun Hoodie I got a year ago but I think they re-designed it and sell it as the AirKuhl Hoody. Thinner than the REI brand so definitely preferable for warmer weather. There’s no drawcord on the hood but it’s tight enough not to blow off in the wind 👍🏼
Great videos. We are doing a section hike in late May. 7 days. Can you recommend a passage / section we HAVE to do? Northern part of the trail? Thank you.
Thanks for watching! I haven’t hiked the AZT in May yet but two sections come to mind as must do’s for me. Obviously the Grand Canyon is highly recommended so Grand Canyon village to Orderville trailhead (nobo miles 691- 763) would be doable in 7 days and you get to experience the Grand Canyon and Kaibab NF. Vail to Oracle (nobo miles 117-208) is in the desert/southern section but crosses into two sky island pine forests. Beautiful desert and mountain views in the Coronado NF and Saguaro NP. I also steward part of that section. Have fun!
Pros: fall foliage and also you are generally less likely to encounter snow (although I hit snow in Flagstaff) Cons: less water than Nobo spring season and much fewer wildflowers than in spring. Water availability makes nobo spring the more popular choose but sobo in the fall is totally doable!
@@apocalypsemule5773 not a bad start date! Just keep in mind that the campground/general store at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon close 10/15 each year. If you can start a little earlier that might be less of a hassle. I think you can still hike into the park but the permit office may be closed.
@@habibihikes if tusayan is approachable (flood on the 22nd) then that's approximately 5 days from state line... you made one of the best films on the azt btw...
Fantastic hiking video 👍 👣 📹
The colors were absolutely amazing
It’s been years since I hit the AZ trail so much nostalgia
Thanks for watching! What was your favorite part of the Arizona trail?
@@habibihikes definitely getting my belt buckle in the mail. So much more proud of that one than any trophy I’ve earned!
Wow. What a cool place to hike!

Very cool. Looking forward to the next parts of your Thru hike. New subscriber here
Thank you so much! The other parts will be releasing this month so thanks for subscribing!

Great video. I am planning on SOBO starting ~01OCT next year (2024). Very instructive. Thanks.
Good luck! Feel free to contact me when you get closer to Flagstaff.
That brought back good memories from last year! Thanks!
Of course! Part 2 coming this week. Did you sobo it last year as well?
@@habibihikes I went NoBo. NoBo timing worked better for me.
Beautiful trek and a great video.
Thank you!
Such a good video. 😀
Heard you on Papa Bear Hikes. I've been curious about the South bound in the fall. So this is awesome!
Thanks for listening and checking out my channel! I hope you end up doing the SOBO, and if you do, lmk if you need any help at all
@@habibihikes Will definitely remember that. Thank you!
@@habibihikesI live in Poulsbo, not too far from Olympia. My training hikes are in the Olympics and Kitsap Peninsula:)

If you’re able to get all the condiment packets, adding mayo, mustard, relish, and hot sauce is my favorite way to do it. Especially with tortillas
Enjoyed your Parts 1 & 2, and looking forward to Part 3. I'm doing a SOBO starting 9/2/22. Your videos are very insightful in their own way.
Thank you Terrance! There aren’t a lot of SOBO AZT videos/info out there so I’m glad you find my videos insightful for your future thru hike.
Wonderful footage/narration!🙌🏻
Easily one of my favorite AZT videos on RUclips. Hoping to do this in 2023.
Thank you so much for saying that! I hope you are able to try it out in 2023 but if it ends up taking longer, the trails always there!
What hoodie is that blue one with the mesh/holes in the hood? Looks good for warmer weather.

Very nice video with beautiful fall colors - what was your start date?
10/1/21! In my opinion, it’s a perfect start date for a sobo hike. Can’t beat 100+ miles of aspens changing colors to start the hike.
good job, bud I gotta learn the hardest way, too
Thank you I appreciate that. With a thru hike the hard way is the only way!
Loved your video
