I loved this additional insight to the movie. I've already seen it 3 times and it is my favorite of 2024 (even beats Dune part 2). I'm hoping to revisit this or see the rest of this with the English subtitles caught up. They stopped right when Park Hoon was talking about his shaved head for the role!!! This movie is just SPECTACULAR. If I could have been a reporter here and have the attention of each actor - I'd have been able to describe the scenes they did and express how their those moments specifically impacted me in the moment and applaud them individually. Woo-jin's petrified moments, Hoon's obsessed terror, Bin's determination, Yeo-been's hidden strength, and Dong-wook!... you sitting against the wall and the movement that happens there [unbelievably well done] I am not alone as to how that impacted me .... someone else reacted impeccably. These things make this movie not a movie but something REAL. ... Standing Ovation 🏆🏆❤️🏆🏆
Hyun bin works out at the gym even when he is away making movies or series. I have seen videos of him working out. It is muscles not fat. For Hyun bin to make those action movies he would need to keep himself fit. Also at the Toronto International Film Festival, fans commented that he has broad shoulders. Of course he is tall and handsome as well.

It is about the fight against the brutal colonisation of the Korean Peninsula by the Japanese and the much loved Korean patriot, Ahn Jung geun and the freedom fighters fighting to regain their sovereignty. I think Americans should study the tragic history, as they have been a part of it, i.e. as America was a party to the division of the Korean Peninsula into North Korea and South Korea after the defeat of the Japanese at the end of WWII in 1945. It was Harry Truman who agreed that the Allies would divide the Peninsula and take South Korea at the 38N Parallel and the Russians would take North Korea. Also Americans, plus other nations under the auspices of the United Nations fought for South Korea in the Korean War of 1950-1953 and are still there today because there was an agreement to an Armistice and not a peace treaty. Technically South Korea and North Korea are still at war after 71 years. The fact that the actors appeared to all look the same was the idea, they were not glamorous times but brutal ones and that was what the actors are portraying, not their glamorous selves. As for critics, I don't take much notice of them usually what they say does not comput with me.

As for the standing ovation in Canada, it was reported that there was a large contingency of Koreans there to see the film. The critics said that it was a good film but not an exceptional one. They said that the film would needlessly drag at times. They said that all the people looked the same and had long hair, mustaches, and goatees, etc. They were all dressed in dark wool clothing and big brimmed hats, so it was hard to tell who was who. I found that to be true because I could hardly recognize Lee Dong Wook and as an American, I only really knew him and Hyun Bin to begin with! The critics did really enjoy the cinematography and the score! They gave the film 3 out of 5 stars and said it was just another flag waving Korean film. They determined that the film would be liked by the Korean domestic market but the international audience may find the nationalism alienating! So, you can take the advice of the international critics or leave it. It's your choice as I don't care one way or the other. I personally have no intentions to watch the film due to the rumors of the illicit behavior of Hyun Bin and Jeon Yeo Been, as well as others!!
