and this may be a unpopular opinion but...Cyrus isn't that intimidating to me main goal is just to rid everyone of feelings with Lysandre he is meant to be more of a sympathic villian believing what he is doing is good and the "beauty" he tries to save is pretty much all the good in the world he mainly wants to cleanse the world of it's sins and hey maybe im biased since x and y are my first pokemon games

Gen 4 had Platinum, HGSS, Explorers of Sky, and Pokemon Ranger. Pokemon was firing on all cylinders back then truly the best time to be a pokemon fan.
And now we have nothing but mediocrity and no risks.

It truly was the best time to be a Pokemon fan. I like Gen 5, 6 and 7 just fine but with 4 there was always something to look forward too with Pokemon.

Personally, speaking I'm looking forward to Gen 8. I understand why people care about Natdex, but it never appealed to me. Each new Gen I try to build a team of new Pokemon.

The grandfather laments he was too cowardly to intervene and help Cyrus

@@sterlingmuse5808 His grandfather is in Sunnyshore City, the final town before the Pokemon League. If you go there and talk to him after defeating Cynthia he explains what happened to Cyrus to make him change.
There's also some backstory at the Old Chateau (or Eterna Galactic Building?) about a Rotom he befriended as a child.

In the manga they actually explain that Charon had basically captured Cyrus with the man simply choosing not to escape and wanting to see what direction Charon would take the organization in. Once all is said and done though Cyrus escapes his imprisonment and essentially vamooses never to be seen again.

I think that Buneary having a base friendship value of 0 and being the only Pokemon to naturally learn frustration is not so much so it can have a strong move right off the bat because it would be useless because walking around and winning battles (the main reason to catch Pokemon) would decrease the power of frustration making it useless. I think it's the best way game freak could convey that Buneary literally hates it's trainer without making it disobey you which make evolving it harder which can make you feel like your bond with Buneary feel more personal which rewards your care for this Pokemon that previously hated you with a Pokemon that loves you being Lopunny which is the only Pokemon that naturally learns return which is the complete opposite of frustration.

Gen 4 has some of my favorite Pokemon in the series. All three Starters, Luxray, Staraptor, Gallade, Garchomp, Lucario, Rampardos, Roserade, Vespiquen, both Eeveelutions, all three Legendary Dragons, Darkrai, and Arceus, all so awesome.
Glaceon and Lopunny were my favorites along with Gallade and lucario
Unpopular choice but I love Gastrodon. East Sea to be specific
Gen 4 is the only generation where I find it legitimately hard to pick a favourite starter by appearance. All 3 just look fantastic, as opposed to every other generation where there's either 1 clearly superior outlier, or 1 clearly inferior outlier
Not to mention Mamoswine, Porygon-Z, Togekiss, Froslass, Yanmega, Electivire (A bit divisive, but I prefer it over its prevos), etc.
Gastrodon is awesome! I happen to still have one as a matter of fact
In terms of cries my favorites are froslass and lumineon. Those two have some of the best cries in series

I would say gen 4 and gen 5 had the most effort put into the development for the games in the series.

Idk, despite how flawed Gen 6 is overall, I honestly think GameFreak worked very hard on those games.

@@OnlyGoken Fun-fact: The numbers of models that GameFreak had to make for Pokemon X/Y is more around the 750+ range, as not only did many pokemon have alternate forms (such as Giratina and Shaymin), they also had to make completely new models for Mega-Evolved Pokemon.
@@blasttothemaxthesecond502 that's a good point. New Megas, forms, and they altered a few things about each Pokémon too. Gen 6 felt like a beta imo, but since they remade A LOT from scratch, I can sorta understand why it is the way it is

there response to the backlash has been poor on all fronts, and they basically admitted that there more concerned with there new town project than they are a mainline pokemon game.

Actually Regigigas isn't an event Pokemon. You only require the Regi trio. They can either be obtained by catching them in Platinum by obtaining an Event Regigas (kinda redundant) or trading over the trio from Gen 3.
Level 1 Regigigas is also the most adorable thing ever. Just make sure to have false swipe, otherwise you're not going to be catching the thing within the next few centuries.
Which I guess could technically count as an event, because of how the base regigigas, not being compatible for the regi trio.
Now why the fuck would they do that, because you can use the same regi trio from platinum itself can be used to open the temple, so what's the fucking point

Manaphy was considered mystical aka event pokemon although all you really need to do is just finish a game.
@@sonicthehedge No not really. The only way outside of events to get Manaphy is to trade one over from one of the 3 Pokemon Ranger games. 2 of which require a WiFi event and 1 which is limited to to 1 per cartridge.
Personally, I always figured that despite what he says, Cyrus just stayed in the Distortion World, especially given a more recent anime special that implied that the Distortion world is more or less what he wanted.
Also it's hard to find, but there is dialogue that implies that emotional neglect is a supporting factor to his nihilism.
Generation 4, as a whole, is my favorite generation of Pokémon ever. I say “as a whole” because not only are its main games top-notch, it also had some of my favorite Pokémon, the best spinoffs (Ranger, Explorers, BR), and the best arc of the anime. Plus, childhood nostalgia definitely helped.
Battle Revolution and Pokemon Ranger were both pretty mediocre to me

I actually really like these games, Sinnoh has a lot of cool stuff to explore, and the battle system is one of the better ones.
That being said, Sinnoh might have my least favorite selection of Pokemon overall aesthetically.

Honestly, day and night is sorta annoying imo. I mean, it's nice, but at the same time I tend to play games at the same time every day, so I don't often get to experience it.

in all honesty, after gen 2 (a generation with many limitations when compared to later titles) featured day/night rhythm but ALL GBA games with all their fancy improvements did not, I felt more robbed then that little preschooler on Unovas Route 3 who got their pokémon stolen by Team Plasma

Aleast Gen 7 games made it where you can instantly teleport through day or night time due to how in Moon it's 12 hours ahead and on sun it's your actual hour.
Gen 4 is my favorite generation. Diamond was my first game and the music never fails to make me tear up

Gen 3 and Gen 4 definitely have the best soundtracks in the series in my opinion. The music is half the reason the Sinnoh games have such a great atmosphere.

Fun fact: there'd actually one house in one of the last cities of the game where a random NPC heavily implies he's Cyrus's grandfather and that he considered taking him away from his parents due to the unhealthy excess of pressure they had put him into, which is pretty sad in hindsight.

Yes! I don't care what anyone says, Generation 4 will always be my favourite Generation of Pokemon. It's the Generation that made me a permanent fan of the series, and to this day, Pokemon Platinum will always be my favourite Pokemon game.

It's one of the most strongest basic Pokemon game.
And that's why I prefer it to going back to OrAs, FRLG/Let's Go, and HGSS, and the big reason why...?
The Dex is much stronger than HGSS, because most of the mons I usually want are either post game, exclusive to platinum, daily events with the radio, and most annoyingly, the placements and time limits of the Safari zone.
(I spent... 2 months waiting in hgss before going to Kanto for a bloody bagon, because I was too stubborn to change my clock. That is flawed game design, that no one ever complains about)
At least in platinum if you have the DS lite you have a much easier time collecting the rare ones by simply having the gba cartridge of their respective game.
Hell if you have emerald for some reason you have a high chance of snagging a free Gengar in eterna forest, that was the first time I have ever used one

While Platinum isn't my favorite of the series, I still enjoy the game plenty of times.
I know Gen 4 has a lot of problems, but this is near and dear to me. This is my first generation of Pokémon. I watched all of the Diamond and Pearl series, and me and my Chimchar/Monferno had such good adventures together. The Sinnoh Region is my home and I will always have a soft spot for this game.
I also developed a crush on Dawn.
I think many people feel the same way I feel the same as well :)
While it's not my top 3 favorite Pokemon games, I still enjoy the game still & in my honest opinion, it was the beginning of the Renaissance for Pokemon after the underwhelming & lacklustering of Gen. 3 ( not counting Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire).

Gen 4 is my favourite gen overall, the only thing holding it back was the slow gameplay.
It didn't feel that draggy to me. I I really enjoyed playing Platinum in and out.
Was the previous games faster?
Cutter Elf Emerald ran at 60fps so it was definitely faster. But Platinum and HGSS are definitely faster than Diamond and Pearl overall.

Ironically that quirk made Lopunny my second favorite pokemon. Getting mines to like me made me feel like they were more than just in game monsters. That and she single handedly and accidentally beat Giratina into submission.

I did. It isn't NEARLY as bad as people say it is. Especially in Platinum. It gets Flame Wheel via level up now, and pretty early too.

Considering I always pick Turtwig, I can relate there.
Not me....my standard team was always Torterra, Garchomp, Gastrodon, Togekiss, Magnezone, and Lucario. I'm good.
I spent the most hours of Pokemon playing Platinum back in middle school. Over 300 in fact. It was definitely the Gen where I got the most fun out of, from battling and training legally questionable Pokemon with my friends, to the music, and almost being able to fill up my Dex. I just needed to see one of Clamperl's evolution and I would have seen 'em all. And i did so many of the events, it was great. If Gen 3 introduced me to the Pokemon games and gave me my first adventure where I bonded with my cousin, then Gen 4 was the first Gen that helped me bond with my friends and helped solidify me as an avid Pokemon fan.
Ah Gen 4, the Gen that helped me get more into the series, had my personal favorite arc in the anime, and most importantly gave me Crogunk and Lucario. This will always be my personal favorite Gen.
Awesome video and yes please review Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky it has one of the best stories in a Pokemon game and an awesome soundtrack to boot.

When I played Explorers of Sky, I really didn't like the game. I'm curious to know what about the game is appealing to those who like it. Maybe I'm just missing something, or maybe I just don't like dungeon crawlers.
Here's why I didn't like it:
I didn't like how long and obnoxious later dungeons got, some spanning upwards to three hours. I didn't like how deaths were extremely punishing, stripping you of resources necessary to clear said obnoxious dungeons. Floor traps made traversing dungeons a paranoia filled slog where I was afraid of getting poisoned or stickied because I walked on a wrong tile with no indication of it being bad. I know they're traps, but the status effects or debuffs can make an already painful experience even worse and it dissuades me from exploring the mystery dungeons because the longer I explore a floor, the more likely it is I run into a trap.
I hated the limited inventory system. I think that the resource management does not belong in a game that encourages you to explore everything. If I find something that's useful, I want to be able to collect the reward for exploring. Having to deal with clunky menus to carefully manage resources was not only a pace breaker, but also made the game unnecessarily harder by preventing me from overly stocking up on healing items, revives, and stat increasing items that I found while exploring.
I thought it looked and sounded like a middle of the road GBA game. I know it's an enhanced version of a game from 2007, but the sprites and models in DP looked so much better.
I liked how the game gave you the opportunity to build your own adventure squad, but I didn't like how often it removed this feature for story missions. Story spoilers ahead:
I thought the ending was like the game shot itself in the head narratively. It undermined the heavily foreshadowed sacrifice of the player character and undermined the partner character's arc of developing from a scared weakling to a confident explorer. It built up the final confrontation as needing a necessary sacrifice, but the writers didn't have the balls to actually kill off the player character. To me, it seemed like the story was compromised to enable a post game that was mediocre and uninteresting.
My favorite theme is dialgas fight to the finish, easily one of the greatest themes in franchise history.
Please do Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. It’s such an amazing game.

@@derekwalter4238 For one thing, the story is better than Rescue Team's. Sky has bonus episodes that weren't in the original two Explorers games, so it has more content. And the game that followed it, Gates to Infinity, has a lot of design annoyances, like having less than 200 Pokemon available in it and not being able to see much of what's around you in a dungeon due to the camera being to zoomed in. Aside from that, I didn't find the story nearly as engaging as Explorer's. I hear Super is good, but I was so disappointed by Gates to Infinity that I didn't even bother when it came out.

Gen4 is easily top3 gens for me along with Gen2 and Gen6. It was just a blast to playthrough. Great environments and the best legendary in Giratina. It was awesome. Difficulty was built up in this game with tons of trainers that you had to beat making it more satisfying to play through.
I think there was an NPC that explains Cyrus motivations in Sunyshore though I’m not sure about that.

In Platinum, you stop him before the second is made, so he had to make an artificial one for the other in some way, what a mad genius he is. The Lake Trio usually show up to destroy the red chain, preventing Cyrus from giving the order of erasing the universe for a new one by the power of the Legendary Dragon, but in Platinum the two of them proven to be too much to handle. So Giratina comes in and stops the disruption of balance itself.

@@stevennavarro1930 You should try the void glitch to get Shaymin and Darkrai (and apparently, they finally found a way to get to arceus.) They might not be considered legit or legal at all, but it's something fun to do.

For your Gen 5 playthrough :
- Snivy will have a tougher time overall than the other two starters, especially for the later gyms. I'd advise you to run a more defensive moveset, since it won't be that great of a standard attacker.
- Tepig is easier to use than Snivy, thanks to its better offensive moveset. However, while it has both more and higher highs than its Grass-type counterpart, its low points really require the use of Pokémon which cover its weaknesses well, much like Snivy.
- Oshawott is the easiest starter to use out of those three, I think, and usually does rather well in important battles, but mind its average speed. It's a nice mixed attacker for your playthrough.
Snivy is worse in b2w2.

The music in that game is some of the best in the series! Definitely has a unique sound that greatly helps create the atmosphere of the region
When you review Gen 5, I suggest you play the sequel that is the same color as the first game (example: Black 1->Black 2). This is mostly for consistency in the story, since this gen has heavy emphasis on it.
Also, when you beat the first game, you will be able to import a bit of your save data to the sequel, which will cause NPCs to reference the previous protagonists name(instead of being referenced with vague terms like 'They'), and you will unlock special cutscenes/flashbacks that show what happened between the games.

I would like to point out that Regigigas wasn't an event pokemon, you have to transfer Regirock/Registeel/Regice from a gen 3 game to obtain it. There was, however, a special event Regigigas that allowed you to catch the 3 golems in the game normally. Also, I would like to say that there is a DNS you can enter into your gen 4/5 games wi-fi settings that re-instates mystery gift and the gts.

Explorers of Sky is just an incredible game. The best of the Mystery Dungeon ones and a ton of content. Also, it’s nostalgic for a lot of us.

@@V-Jes Playing through the game atm. It's genuinely incredible, dude. Postgame is where it loses repetitveness due to having to actually strategize, plan line ups, etc. Story mode makes up for that repetitveness. It's genuinely interesting.
