It feels very real. Not just "Oh, he's cool", more like "He loves music as much as I do. It feels like home". I wouldn't mind if it was longer. I love it.

    my teacher used to say "play something that people could potentially sing to", something that rersembles a melody. I think playing less notes also translates to a melodic solo or whatever it's called. The opposite of mindless bubbles

    • @ClaraDeLemon
      @ClaraDeLemon Год назад +10

      Yeah, mine asked me to sing what I was soloing, it gave for better, more cohesive melodies. Great exercise when you're new at improvising!

    • @SamBrockmann
      @SamBrockmann Год назад +7

      And cohesive, singable melodies are fine. But so are crazy, totally unsingable solos that are flurries of 16 notes, flurries of 5ths, 6ths, and 7ths. Listen to Guthrie Govan sometime, and tell me you can't (and shouldn't) do both. If we limited musical expression to, "Can we sing it?", we'd still be using single note bows and basic flutes of ancient times, hahahah

    • @ClaraDeLemon
      @ClaraDeLemon Год назад +2

    Someone once said - the song is ready when there's no notes anymore that can be removed. This one was a good one. Many of us lead players should remind ourselves that the lead guitar is actually supposed to 'sing' a melody or something that's supposed to attract the listener. most of us just wank off scales (including myself quite too often) :_)

    Have you ever analyzed how your ethnic background affects your note choices etc? I honestly wonder how much that effect diminishes the further one educates oneself on music theory, or does it just come more controlled? This could be asked for any background but from a west vs east POV it's interesting, even without discussing microtonality, specific nationalities with really distinct music.

    • @G_Demolished
      @G_Demolished Год назад +3

      The way I see it, learning music theory just teaches you to put a name to different sounds.
      I think of it like a child with a box of 64 crayons. Would a child who learned the names of all the colors use them differently than a child who didn’t?

    • @lampavajanyasha7686
      @lampavajanyasha7686 Год назад +2

      I don't think that you can noticably inherit your musical expression, I think it's almost totally built from all the music you've heard throughout your life. So basically it's ethnic in a cultural way, but most likely not in a genetic way.
      You might say that the assumption itself is stupid that you could inherit the way you play music, but I think it's not for the same reason you inherit your attitude, personality and even traumas. So technically I'd say it's possible that you inherit music related things too but not so prominently.
      I can only bring up my example - I'm Hungarian and we have very distinct folk music (it's absolutely more Eastern than Western), but as time progresses along with popular culture, people listen to folk music less with every generation. Ever since beat and rock music has been around, usually there is little to none influence from our folk music to the new music genres. On the other hand, for me personally I am in touch very much with traditional music, because I grew up listening to many of them (my father is a musician). So my conclusion is that if you were born an Arab in the USA but never listened to Arabic music during your childhood/life, nobody would tell about your musical world that you are an Arab.
