@@audiobuff77 Most people like the 63 - 65 body style and they are beautiful but I prefer this body style (66 and 67). I think they kinda messed it up in 68.
And Lou, really didn't like talking about the MPG. In the city, i8t was more like 9MPG! Let's just say that the Riv. never saw a gas station it didn't like! HaHa My '66 didn't have the GS option but I did have some options that a lot of others didn't have. I had the up graded radio with a stereo multiplex unit attached. I installed a rear window "defogger" fan. A 8 track tape player also added. (plug and play). A four way flasher was installed under the dash near the parking brake release. Later, Delco air shocks in the rear along with Michelin tires. Made a huge improvement in highway ride. For winter time, steel wheels and wheel covers. Cleaning those chrome wheels just once was enough for me. BHTW, mine was Riviera Gold and black interior.

@@loucostabile The first time I viewed this was on my smartphone while having coffee. I just had to see it a second time on something larger and pulled out my tablet. Wow!
Lou, it’s a beauty! Thanks for sharing! My brother in law had one of these years back, late 70s. And I just saw one in a classic Perry Mason episode from the show’s last season of 1965-1966 season. Wow, such an amazing GM model. I love its sister, the Olds Tornado even more. Thanks again, Lou! Love these classic beauties, and yes, I watched the ads in their entirety before viewing this glorious video.
There are some pretty nice cars on Perry Mason. That’s half the reason I watch it. Perry usually drives the Cadillacs or Lincolns. Paul Drake drives Corvettes or T Birds. Another one of my favorite cars is the 59 Buick Invicta. You see quite a few of those in a couple of the early seasons.
I love how the car rocks side to side when he revs the engine. It kind of reminds me about my driver side engine mount always breaking on my 1968 charger 440. Thanks for the upload, once again!
My first car, which I bought in 1976 upon graduating from high school, was a 1970 Charger R/T with the 440. Mine was "Plum Crazy". Man, do I miss that car!
I love my 65 Riviera; wanted one since I was 6 years old and finally got mine when I was 46. This 2nd Generation is a very close second; would love to have one in my garage. This guy has it made with that 64 'cat with the 4 speed to boot!
Thank you so much, Lou. What a nice gift to watch on a beautiful Saturday morning while having breakfast. That Riviera GS is stunning. And as a bonus that honk of the horn at the end, was the cherry on top of the pie.
Hi Billace 90, Happy to read you enjoy this episode and consider it a gift for a Saturday morning :-) Glad to read you enjoy the looks and horn sounds of this one, Lou
I Love Buicks..This one has such a beautiful look from every angle. Buick did a great job in their transfer from 1965 to this second generation 1966. The gas cap is right where it belongs...in the middle of the trunk under the license plate. When you pull into a gas station...it doesn't matter which side of the pump you pull next too. Great feature. Thanks, Lou.
Back when personal luxury ruled the roads and the car was designed around the driver. Not like today's boring cookie cutter SUV's and pickup trucks. Slapping a tablet in the center of the dash does not make a vehicle.
Wow, what a rare gem! With a dual quad 425 I think the rear of the car is the only view most people would recognize. The year 1966 gave us 2 iconic cars, the Riveria GS and the Toronado. Another great video Lou, and thanks so much to Dennis for sharing his story with us but I do have to say I think Buick was kidding us with that 360hp number. My guess would be something closer to the stated torque number of 465 lb.ft.
Hi Rich, "I think the rear of the car is the only view most people would recognize" N I C E :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
What a beautiful car!!!!! Dad bought one of these......his first brand new car. Kept it way up into the 70s. He's 88 years old now and still say it's his favorite car he ever had. The 1966 Riviera is one of the highest peaks of American automotive design. These recent summer episodes have featured some of my favorite cars. Lou, your My Car Story has been a rare bright spot in this disaster of a year 2020.
High praise for this design :-) soyounoat, I'm touched by your message on being a bright spot in 2020. My pleasure sharing with you, and glad you're along for the ride. Lou
Beautiful car, I've always liked that color. The speaker in the back, brought back memories of the family car, ( '59 Impala 2- door ) nobody wanted to sit near that speaker, because you may smack your head on it!
Done deal, pal. Thanks again. Back in 66 my dad would load us up to visit his parents @ Coral gables. The I-95 didn't go all the way like now. @ times we would drive a 3lane interstate highway. The middle lane would be the Passing lane when it was announced. My dad would gun that Riviera GS & @ times he would take some cars that was passing because they weren't passing fast enough. B4 Nixon made 55mph the national speed limit. I remembered 70mph was about the norm on the interstate highways from north to south. My dad would be many times the only 1 awake. That car was sooo quiet, smooth, comfortable & dad made us wear the lap belts. The trunk was bigger than some studio apmts in NYC. Again Lou, thanks for bringing that memories. When you get a 70Buick Riviera GS, I'll be on your page that was the next car he got. Njoy

The Smile on Dennis face when you said “let’s take it for a ride” I seen that happy smirk. And I would be too. Damn Lou you do have a great Gig. As I said before I was never a real Buick fan (to me it seemed to many choices from GM) but they did have some great cars that stick out. Man when you opened that hood I said WOW! It is beautiful. So clean and pristine. Everything is right. I'm a big Rivera fan and am partial to the boat tails. This year, however, is beautiful from all angles especially the front and rear. Lou you did a great job on the interior especially how you featured the beautiful console and shifter. I think it may have had a rear window defroster. There may have been some features unique to this rare Riviera that were missed. Just a suggestion in the future if you have a rare or really loaded car ask the owner what those options are and then feature them. As always, Lou, you do an amazing job of finding and featuring such amazing cars. Keep it up!

Joe - completely different - this was the last year of the “nail-head” Buick dating back to 1953 but just the 2nd year for the new Olds - Buick replaced it in ‘67 with the all new 430 which became the 455 -- this one retains the classic Riv looks but with a really good transmission the earlier ones needed

@@loucostabile The factory Sta-Bil rep likes to remind people that it works best in gas that was just pumped, as even two-week old gas is already degraded. I drink old gas on the rocks when I run out of Daniels, but that's really just a personal preference. Or personal problem. Same thing.
Great car! The color is so unusual you never did mention what color it was. The deepest aqua I've ever seen. Unusual horn set up if that was Factory? Thanks for this review Lou!👏👏

That roofline kinda hints of what a full size 1st gen Camaro would have looked like. In my opinion regardless of make, the engines in the 421-430 displacement range were all divisions of GM, Ford and Mopar's best muscle engines ever made.

Lou, i enjoyed watching your show. My Mom and Dad used to have a '65 Chevy malibu hard top, 3-spd, I believed it was a either a 296 or 396 engine, don't know how many HP. I was barely young in my grade school days back in the early 70s.We could've kept it, after dad's passing and possible brought it here in the States. Dad was in the military and retired in Philippines.I've been here many decades now and continuously watching auto auctions, online and physical, and of course car shows, your show is one of them and presentations on line and am enjoying it. I am a die hard muscle cars or hot rod and/or classic cars fanatic. I love the 60s and 70s cars, i liked them all regardless of what brand and models. Ironically, as getting older, i focused myself onto European TR7, alfa romeo, porsche and now for the past 15 years, I got tangled up again with my first love -- The American muscle cars. i chat too much lol. Keep on running your show, good for your rating.

Another rare and gorgeous Riviera GS. Just like Michaelangelo's work of Art, great body line, smooth rev, very classic. Slick, curve rear body. If i have one right now, Lou you'll be the first one on my bucket list to critique. I grew up in the 70s during the muscle car era, I love muscle cars.
That is one sweet ride, I never knew that Buick produced a dual quad 425 Nailhead. I would guess that the 360 horsepower is a little underrated and the true horsepower is closer to 400 ponies. It's a shame that cars like this will never happen again, but we are fortunate enough to have channels like yours to at least see and hear them. Thanks Lou.👍
Hi Mike, Happy to read you enjoy this "sweet ride" :-) Appreciate your kind words, and my pleasure sharing with you. Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
Production of the 1966 Buick Riviera was 45,348...standard engine was a 340 Horsepower with 4-BBL 425 V-8. This example has the optional 360 Horsepower dual 4-BBL which was a dealer installed option. The 4 note horn was a $16 option. For the first time a bench seat was available. The base Riviera had rather plain door cards with a simple short arm rest. This example has the more upmarket door cards with the full length arm rest and the door release for rear seat passengers. Strato bucket seats offered rare head rests as an option which were not federally mandated until 1969. Red line striped tires were a fad that was short lived ... but wire wheel covers appeared in the mid 1960s and remained popular thru the 1980s. This GM E-body shared a common cowl, windshield, and wheelbase with the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado which had front wheel drive. At that time a big Buick was popular and had status. Now GM sells many more Buicks in China than in North America...the last Chinese emporer loved Buicks so the make still has high status in that country. Sales of new Buicks in North America have declined over many years and the make is now almost exclusively a producer of crossovers.
I had a 66 Riviera like this when I was a kid. Mine was sort of a dark copper/brownish color, had the single 4 barrel quadrajet on the 425 Wildcat, white bucket seats and floor shifter for the turbo 400 tranny. That thing was flat out powerful! Amazing I survived it......

A stunning beauty!! Even the license plate is matching! The "S" on the California plates were issued in 1966, and the registration decals on the California plate are original, as well! 1966 for the yellow tag, and 1967 for the blue one on the rear plate. Thank you, Lou, and the owner Dennis for all the specs, and the drive in the car!

Hey Lou. I hope you're doing good. Beautiful looking 66 Buick Riviera. This has always been my favourite year for the Riviera since the 1964 model Riviera. 🙂
As you say, Lou, this car's got it all, including a spectacular color! It definitely commands attention, for all the reasons you mentioned! That speedometer is way cool (the Olds Toronado had it too), and it's interesting how Buick created a hidden headlight system without using flip-up doors, which now that I think about it, would ensure you would always be able to use them since you would never have to worry about headlight doors being stuck closed. Many thanks to you and Dennis for this Gran Sporty ride!
My first car was a '66 GS with the dual quads, in some beige-like flavor. Bought it from an older lady who never drove it properly, so when my 16-year-old lead foot started blowing the carbon out, the problems started; sold it and bought a new 914. Almost 50 years later, wish I still had both of them.

Hi Story Teller, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this Riviera. My pleasure sharing this one with you Buddy, you're welcome, and Merry Christmas, Lou
I had a 1967 Rivera GS. Of course it had the new 430 engine and the famous "Star Wars" air cleaner. These car rode and drove like no other on the planet. You could say "Unique In All The World".
I always imagined the designers within Chevrolet scrambling to find a solution for the Mustang and sprinting over to Buick. I always thought a Camaro was just a midget Rivera. Eldorado, Toronado, and Riviera were the reminiscence of the space race cars of the 50's. I loved them as a kid but my Dad always said there's to many moving parts..... mechanical nightmares..... I don't care! Look at it!!!! Such a great car!
Very nice car in beautiful condition! My brother had one. It was not a GS but it had a Buick 465 Wildcat in it. Torque monster! Yes, buick did have a 465, was not a 455. I had a 72 Riviera with a 455. Very fast cars.

@@albertsmith4569 , Well, i can admit when I'm wrong. You are correct. Who says you can't learn something new 50yrs and older. Lol. Will post a pic though "if i can" of it. The very one that had misled me for so long. :)

Yet another magnificent example of what an American automobile SHOULD BE! As an 'Old timer' of the Baby Boomer Gen., I still cling to the more mechanical and less computerized classic American cars, this rare and beautiful beast is right up my alley! That Buick 425-ci V8 'MZ code' power plant with dual-quad carbs, producing *WAY MORE* than 360 advertised horsepower; more like 460-475-hp in reality, is a dream come true! My Roman-born grandmother, who had driven mainly little, under-powered Fiat's in her native Italy, bought a Wildcat in '66; imagine going from those little Italian Matchbox cars to a new '66 Buick, Wildcat! She paid much less than the $3,700 Monroney sticker price for it because my father went alone with her to buy the car. Grandma trusted Pop to get all of the proper option packages and, of course, a good price, since her English wasn't the best at the time. Pop ordered it with the vaunted 425-ci with the single Rochester '4MC' 4-bbl carb. with an advertised, "340-BHP @ 4400 RPM"; which, of course was a low-ball estimate for insurance purposes; it was, in reality more like 400-plus horsepower. If I remember correctly her Wildcat had a standard 3-gear transmission. As usual, great stuff, Lou. Thank you very much!
Goodday Lou, this is what I love about your video's. You get to see beautiful classic cars like this Buick Riviera GS, that even I didn't know it existed.
Hi Brian, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Glad you enjoy the gas cap placement. You're welcome, Lou
Beautiful car my first car was a 1982 Riviera. I loved that car.
Hi Mario Lt4, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Back when personal luxury ruled the roads and the car was designed around the driver. Not like today's boring cookie cutter SUV's and pickup trucks. Slapping a tablet in the center of the dash does not make a vehicle.
Hi Milford Civic, Happy to brings some good memories back with this car :-) Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou
Yea and beer can metal and plastic there all junk today and all look the same none have there own stlyle like back in our day
yea and self driving and without engine so you don't get your hands dirty, when it breaks you just "recycle" like a plasstic bag, very sad now.
I like the 66, 67 year Rivi's more so than the 71-73 Boat tail Riviera's.
What a beautiful car!!!!!
Dad bought one of these......his first brand new car. Kept it way up into the 70s. He's 88 years old now and still say it's his favorite car he ever had.
I always loved that car & I was only 2 when he bought it.
I now have a 67 Rivera and I love it!!!!!
LOVE BUICK!!!
Thank you for your channel!!!
Keep up the good work and keep bringing the Buicks.

Lou
Firstly, beauty product placement! Secondly, stunning Buick.
Thanks Lou for another great Car Story!
Hi Jeff King, Happy to read you noticed the placement. Glad to read you enjoy the stunning Buick. Thank you, Lou
Beautiful car, I've always liked that color. The speaker in the back, brought back memories of the family car, ( '59 Impala 2- door ) nobody wanted to sit near that speaker, because you may smack your head on it!
Hi Uri, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Thanks for sharing the tip on the speaker in the back too, Lou
Njoy
My pleasure sharing with you and you're welcome.
A really nice restoration. I love the color, I think it's called Shadow Turquoise. Thanks, Lou!
Hi Brian, Happy to read you enjoy this color :-) You're welcome, Lou

You use all the correct adjectives! Nice sound when he gave it throttle. As always, I enjoyed the video!
Hi zeevon9, Happy to read I was using all the correct adjectives :-) Glad you enjoy the sounds of this car, and glad you're along for the ride, Lou
The Smile on Dennis face when you said “let’s take it for a ride” I seen that happy smirk. And I would be too. Damn Lou you do have a great Gig. As I said before I was never a real Buick fan (to me it seemed to many choices from GM) but they did have some great cars that stick out. Love all the early Rivieras, many of the mid to late 50’s upscale Buicks. This one is a real Honey and so rare it should be in a museum. I think Dennis is a great caretaker. Thank You Lou
Hi gene978, Happy to share this "great gig" with you :-) Agreed, Dennis is the right person for this car. Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
I don't normally refer to a car as "pretty" however this car is exactly that.
GREAT VIDEO LOU.

@@loucostabile I've been a subscriber for a while now. All of your videos are easy to watch all the way through. You have really have an excellent way of showing the car while having the owner talk about it. Here's to you Lou🍻
Now that's a classy Buick. Dennis has a fine one, and with dual quads this beauty has plenty of bite, too. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp. Happy to read you enjoy this classy Buick :-) You're right, this dual quad one Dennis has is quite the nice ride. My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Keep it up!
Hi Bill, Happy to receive a "WOW!" from you :-) Appreciate your kind words on the selection of cars I share, and I'll do my best to find cars we both enjoy, Lou
Great presentation to a beautiful and luxury vehicle of the past.
My pleasure sharing this one with you :-)
Mom’s 1965 Olds Dynamic 88 had the 425 V8, an amazing engine, love that horn!
Hi Joseph, Mom knew how to get around :-) Glad to read you enjoy the horn on this one, Lou
But it was a Oldsmobile 425
Joe - completely different - this was the last year of the “nail-head” Buick dating back to 1953 but just the 2nd year for the new Olds - Buick replaced it in ‘67 with the all new 430 which became the 455 -- this one retains the classic Riv looks but with a really good transmission the earlier ones needed
I noticed the clock was still working, says alot about the craft of the car!! Thanks for another great one Lou
Hi Bruce, Thank you for viewing & sharing the details you notice. You're welcome, Lou
I think I like this better than the Tornado, because it’s rear wheel drive.

Seriously overlooked design. Beautiful.
High praise :-)
Being from Flint Michigan, Kearsley Area: I like all Buicks and the Riviera is a beautiful ride. Yes: Wow 👍 I also use STA-BIL in my boats, so they are also ready to bo in the spring. 🚢
• Cheers from The Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
Hi trainroomgary, Happy to receive a "Wow" from you :-) Glad to read you use STA-BIL too. Cheers, Lou
Hi Andy, The color is Shadow Turquoise Paint (in the video description text) Glad you enjoy the review, and you're welcome, Lou

Very nice Lou. I used to own a 65 Riviera Gran Sport with the 425 nailhead/dual quads. Been kicking myself for selling it.

Hi David, Happy to read this car is a favorite of yours :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

That car is simply perfect! What a style!
High praise :-)
That is one sweet ride, I never knew that Buick produced a dual quad 425 Nailhead. I would guess that the 360 horsepower is a little underrated and the true horsepower is closer to 400 ponies. It's a shame that cars like this will never happen again, but we are fortunate enough to have channels like yours to at least see and hear them. Thanks Lou.👍
Hi Mike, Happy to read you enjoy this "sweet ride" :-) Appreciate your kind words, and my pleasure sharing with you. Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
Awesome! Buick was on point in 1966! Super Wildcat engine!! Stylish car!
Hi Edmund, High praise :-) Lou
ah, yes, another classic ride!!
:-)

Mine was sort of a dark copper/brownish color, had the single 4 barrel quadrajet on the 425 Wildcat, white bucket seats and
floor shifter for the turbo 400 tranny. That thing was flat out powerful! Amazing I survived it......

Every model of the riv was very cool but that one is unbelievable.
High praise for this Riviera :-)

Hi Paul, Happy to share this rarely seen car with you, Lou
I always imagined the designers within Chevrolet scrambling to find a solution for the Mustang and sprinting over to Buick. I always thought a Camaro was just a midget Rivera. Eldorado, Toronado, and Riviera were the reminiscence of the space race cars of the 50's. I loved them as a kid but my Dad always said there's to many moving parts..... mechanical nightmares..... I don't care! Look at it!!!! Such a great car!
Hi Chuck, Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this "great" car. Wonder if your dad would have enjoyed a ride in this one.... , Lou

The “465” was the torque rating, not cubic inches.
@@albertsmith4569 , Well, i can admit when I'm wrong. You are correct. I just talked to my brother and he confirmed that it was a 425 but for some reason they did put 465 on the aircleaner top for the torque rating. Who says you can't learn something new 50yrs and older. Lol. Will post a pic though "if i can" of it. The very one that had misled me for so long. :)
My dad had a 1966 Buick LeSabre. It was the first car that I drove. It didn't have the big engine like the one in your story but it was a very nice car.

I have say about 60 odd books in my library dedicated to classic muscle cars. Nothing in there about a 1966 Buick Riviera GS, 425 cubic inch, dual quads, 360 HP. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't of been the wiser. Always learning something new on your show, & that can only be a good thing.
