    Gauss's law is a fundamental principle in electromagnetism that relates the electric field to the electric charge distribution in a closed surface. It was formulated by German mathematician and physicist Carl Friedrich Gauss and is one of Maxwell's equations.
    Gauss's law can be stated as follows:
    "The total electric flux through any closed surface is equal to the electric charge enclosed by that surface divided by the permittivity of free space."
