Hi don't sell my crochet and loom knit iteams I make just give to family because I live in a aera were alot of people crochet,knits and loom knit. I only make hats,scarfs and blankets. Question on how you might handle this. I've only done a couple shows but at my last show someone from another booth came up to me during the event and I asked if I'd be willing to barter. I was caught totally offguard and just said ummmm I'll stop by you later. I knew I wouldn't want to already, but also I wasn't interested in what she was selling... how would you have handled that. Is that typical? Has it happened to you before?
It is pretty common for other vendors to offer to trade, but its totally up to you if you want to do that. If I like their products, then I'll happily accept a trade, but you should never feel obligated! :) You can always say something like, "sorry, not today but I'll take a card for next time!"
I usually ask people with stuff I like to come to my booth and see if there is any thing they would be interested to barter for. if they are old hands in the game the less likely it is. even if my stuff is really unique. a good answer in your case is to say that you really need cash to cover your expenses. remember your stock represents money out of your pocket.

Do you need a permit to sell at markets? Also, do you have to log your earnings on your taxes?
This is completely dependent on your location! I’d recommend looking up the permit for your area. Yes, you always need to report your income (at least in Canada)
