- Cape York is loved by all Australian 4x4 enthusiasts, even though the Old Telegraph track is only 122km long and the return journey from Brisbane is 6,200km. A long way to travel for very little 4x4ing, sure you can head out to Chili Beach and drive the French & Pascoe track which is very challenging and exciting. I think every 4x4er should attemp Cape York atleast once.
With so many other highly regarded destinations around Australia, we're spoilt by choice. Simpson Desert, Kimberly's, Flinders Ranges, Tasmania, Fraser island, Arnhem Land and my personal favourite where I keep going is The Victorian High Country.
The Victorian High Country is only half the return distance at 3, 108km and you're continuously in low range with tracks like Crooked River and Haunted Steam boasting over 25 river crossings, steep hill climbs namely Billy Goats Bluff or the Deddick Track. So many Huts and history, and the wild life is awesom, especially if you get to see a wombat or a mob of Brumbies.
