Thanks for this. I had seen references to installing the latches without needing to drill (and like you, I cringed seeing some of the drilling into the jeep), but yours is the first video I've found that shows pretty well what needs doing. Also wondering if you ever trimmed down the hood component to make the hood gap a bit more even? Good work.
I drive my Jeep on the highway in super high cross winds. No hood flutter of latch release yet. So far they have held up to the steel hood actually flexing with out letting go. We get some serious cross winds here in New Mexico. Installed my wife's and no issues either.
I just did this myself just clip off the 2 plastic ends and easy install. The only hard part is getting access to that dang bolt. Other then that it's super fast install.
The bolts are the same size and location. The little plastic pegs are in the wrong spot, but clip them and you're good. They're mostly there for alignment at the factory. The only real difference is the hood height. The JL ones clamp to a smaller closed position and the rubber bumpers need trimmed to make the hood gap even. I was in the highway yesterday with extremely high winds doing and me at 75mph. No issues or letting go.
Good tip on trimming the rubber piece. I’ll be installing mine next week and was hoping to avoid altering the factory hole in the metal hood.

Yes, just shave the rubber bumper down in small increments until you're happy with the hood gap. A new razor helps a lot

I just picked up a set of these and was ready to send them back. Now I’m going to give your method a try! Did you ever trim the rubber spacer?
I did. I shaved the rubber bumper in very small increments until I found the hood gap acceptable.
@@thetick5321 going to give it a try, thanks!
@@tomgardner6294 the cost of failure is just a new hinge. You'll be good.
@@thetick5321 what about removing the spacer completely?

Half inch ratchet with a shallow 13 or 1/2 i found to be perfect. Go in below the headlight and snake it up to the top.
Nice work. I thought people were drilling because the bolts were bigger on the JL latches?

Thanks for the video, I hate drilling my JK!
This is how the pros do it. ruclips.net/video/PPF_jw30mv4/видео.html
