I relate to the apparel talk so much. I got into apparel recently and managing stock is the hardest part, especially factoring in all the variants, like colours, garment style, design variants, sizes, etc. People tell me, "Just take pre-orders" or "Just make them to order" but it's way more complicated than that! And I don't have a ton of storage space because I work from home, so I can't keep hundreds to thousands of garments on hand. For years I was against selling apparel because of the logistics of it all. I'm glad I took the leap, but MAN it's a lot to deal with.
Oh man! It’s a tricky one! I have no idea what to do 😂❤❤❤❤ I’m going to see how it goes with print on demand and I’ll let you know my verdict hehee going to order some samples first though to test! Xxxxx
Hey @katnippstudios ... what about using print on demand but having them send YOU the garments - then you could package them, add tags etc and ship to the customer. Would work well for customers that order multiple products. Mayve you could come to an arrangement with POD conpany to send weekly batches to save postage. Best of both world and I'm sure customers wouldn't mind waiting a few extra days for that Katnipp live that goes into the packaging.
There are print on demand companies who allow you to add a brand label. It totally makes biz sense to do POD for apparel because of the different sizes at the very least. It’s still special because you designed it. ❤
I'm the kind of madlad who needs to count, grade, sort, and card all their enamel pins once they come in (I wanna know exactly how many A and B grades I have and have them ready to pack into orders) so I have a block of styrofoam that I'll sit and push pins into for like an hour. And yes, it's a very satisfying process 😂 (if perhaps a little loud....) I also suffer from wanting to make my backing cards cute little scenes instead of just letting them be simple. I started out pretty good at simple cards but as time goes on I want them to be cooler and cooler, almost like little collectibles themselves. I think it's because I've been suffering from art block and feeling like my art is kind of bland the last year or so, so I'm really looking for any opportunity to do something Fantastic instead of just Serviceable. I love watching these vlogs over lunch every week, I started watching when I was considering opening my own Etsy - two and a half years later I just broke 6k sales and I have my first show in two weeks 😭 Thank you for recording your process!
Another great option for your apparel dilemma to consider is doing pre-orders! That way you only order what people have bought, you can have it sent to you so you can still do your cute added details, and you won’t have stock sitting on the shelves afterwards. A fantastic vlog. Thank you for sharing, and I can’t wait for the next one!
I thought about that! But it would be tricky to keep on top of when we travel/the logistics ect! Hopefully we can figure something! 😅❤ I’ve always wanted apparel!
Another idea for bumblebutt in the mousepad design is this is an alternate universe where he doesn't have wings, thus why he needs the broom to fly around. Just a thought
On the note of investments and direct-to-garment printing. Have you ever thought of purchasing a "Direct-to Garment Printer". I used to work for a printshop and we used the Epson SureColor F2100 DTG Printer. The color and quality of the prints were unmatchable. We would print on a few garments/materials to display and then made the rest to order. It does take up some time as you might have to pretreat darker garments before you print and press, but I didn't find it to take away from my other daily task.
I’m not normally one for autumn products as I like pastels but all your autumn stuff is the cutest wahh that pastel witch pin set and mousemat is a need!
You should use print on demand to start. Get a great test of what sells well without having to pay upfront. then use the capital you make off it to print your own one day.
An option for your apparel can be ordering DTF, this can be stock for a year or something, its fast and also and be pressed in any color. This way people can order the color and size they like and you don't have to stock that big amount of products, because will be pressed when you customer order them
Printify just came up with new additions where they can print a neck insert and you can add a card insert to go with the apparel you have them print. You get to design them just like the clothing 😊
I’m in the printify group on Facebook. People have been posting their package inserts, they’re honestly pretty bad. I wouldn’t want that sent to my customers and I don’t even have such an aesthetic shop like hers so I wouldn’t see her being happy with them.
u could change the opacity on most of the pastel witch backing card except for the cottage. so new white layer over everything but the cottage and then change the opacity a bit to tone all the other elements down.
You can get samples from POD companies to check the quality which is great as some are very hit and miss. There are also a number of companies that will let you add a branded tag, inside label and a thank you card, obviously this will increase the unit cost but you will at least get some element of your branding in the orders. POD has much smaller profit margins if you are trying to be price competitive (approx £10ish profit for T-shirts is possible of selling for about £25) Or like a few people have said, try doing pre-orders for new designs if you find POD 😊
Much smaller maybe but doesn't seem like small profit to me, especially considering the time it gives to focus on other thing like marketing or creating other products. But I'm new to all this so I might be wrong / not seeing the full picture.
Ahh yes! Thank you for sharing ❤ yes the profit is lower but I can’t think of a better alternative 😂 I’ve been around in circles! I think it’s time I experiment hehe ❤
@@chloevaillant9430 no you are right, PoD can still provide a great profit figure especially when you factor in timesaving aspects of it. It can just seem "small" if you are used to buying elements yourself and selling for same price where you might get £15-£20 profit above cost, but you also have to spend the time printing and packaging so really the real profit of DIY is probably not far off that of PoD after factoring in time anyway. I would say the main concern with PoD is quality control, this part is out of your hands which can be scary and could cause customer service problems you didn't previously have. But there are also ways around this by curating a good relationship with a PoD supplier, getting samples in advance etc this takes more effort than just signing up with a big company like Printify(also nothing wrong with Printify either you just have to experiment with the suppliers they have) but could be worth it in the long run to avoid poor quality ☺
Love those mousemats so much omg the colours!!! Would you ever think about doing drawstring PE style bags as well as tote bags? They're really comfy and useful and would love a Katnipp one
I use Printful for my t-shirts. You can add custom logos to tags. They also let you mail in cards to be included in your packaging. Or just have your branding printed on the receipts. They print in black and white though.
@@KatnippStudios yes! Definitely order samples so you know which brands of items you want to use. I have preferred Bella and Canvas clothing items but I know Gildan are also very popular. Printful also has studios in different locations around the world, so the shipping is often matched to pricing that’s local to the buyer. It opens up opportunity for even more sales. 😁
@@KatnippStudios also! Printful handle any returns/exchanges where some companies won’t accept them. I tried Printify and had troubles with print quality and returns they wouldn’t accept that I had to cover out of pocket. I’ve had no issues with Printful on that front. No complaints with them either.
Hi Catherine, could you please make a large gaming pad that would go with the Space Buns collection. Almost like a galaxy/ space themed one?! It would be awesome!!
With Printful at least you can send them pack-ins for them to include with orders, so you could still at least put the thank-you note in there. (there is a monthly storage fee, but I don't remember it being too exorbitant.)
I think bumblebutt has just tucked his wings away because he doesn’t need them if he’s using a broomstick! He’s just giving his wings a well earned rest 🥰🐝 love the mousemat soooo much, I’m about to move house so going to save up for a new pc and maybe a I’ll neeeeeed a mousemat to go with it 👀😂
Another great studio vlog. I think the backing cards on the Pastel Witch cards are perfect as is, they are a beautiful scene and they can be kept as a bookmark once the pin is removed … a two for one😉 That’s my plan for mine.
Print on demand is a good way to go but make sure you fully do your research into the company you plan to use, as you will only get a percentage of the money for your designs, the company makes more, so make sure you don’t get ripped off ❤
Yeah I have print on demand for my journals and while I’ve made sales, the profit is very very thin and hard to be competitive. I think it’s good to see what sells at first, but I don’t like it. Also, depending on where it’s made you might have to pay more fees. So I can’t sell internationally or I’d get double VAT… I’m planning to get my journals manufactured, but only of the designs that people have been buying.
I totally get wanting to personalize your product and have that full control. But it seems that you’re at a crossroads on being able to fully personalize and actually being able to fulfill your customer wishes. I have my fingers crossed for you darling! I know this will open up a ton of options for you! You know your company best! ❤
I have been doing made-to-order for 8 years now, I carry 4 colors of T-Shirt 2 of each size, yes which is a big upfront cost. I have now switched to DTF which saves me so much time and the quality is amazing. ( I outsource the prints) I used to do vinyl, which was so limiting. I also had an OKI white printer, so not worth the hassle. This solution works great for me. I have added Hoodies and sweatshirts, which I can get from Amazon pretty fast, yes that cuts into my profit a bit, but in the end, it's all worth it. I hope you like the Quality of print on demand, I heard they use DTG, which has improved over the years.
Ohhhh thank you so so much for sharing your experience! ❤❤❤❤ I do love the quality of DTG this is what I’ve been using for my totes and I have to agree the quality is wonderful! ❤
It's awesome to hear about your plans to experiment with print-on-demand for apparel; it sounds like a smart move to offer more variety while avoiding excess inventory. Have a productive day!
🌸 Go for the POD Catherine! 🤗 🌸 - don’t worry about the packaging at this point because you have a plenty of other cool products that you can wrap in a cute paper with your logo on it POD is a far better solution for the jumpers (and will save you a lot of headaches !) 🌸 Go for it girl! 🌸 👍 you got this!
Could you "sign" your art work (jumpers/sweaters 😬) to incorporate your branding? It is artwork after all; your artwork to be precise. Packaging is cute, but the item itself is what shines. Maybe some things can be basic, to be able to get your art out there. Also, your videos are such a great way to document your life's journey.
I meaaaan... the branding for POD is less, but it can be done. For example Printful lets you print your logo/tag into the inside back collar area. They also let you customize a card insert that goes into the package. Its not much, but it adds a personal touch.
Can you do a pre order so you know exactly what is needed to fulfill your orders? I love your vlogs. The five pins on the backing card was a great decision. It appeals to my art balance using an odd number of items. Do what works best for you and the brand.
I tried this before and it while it was good it’s quite logistallt demanding, I want to be able to leave the business and it still run with Mike ect without me and dean having to be in ordering everything (incase we have children ect) 🥹🌸🌸⭐️ I’m sure we will figure it out tho 🥲🥲🌸🙏
You crack me up. I'm laughing hysterically, I like the crunch sound also😅😅😅. I'm glad your videos come out on Mondays they make me happy. I'm getting the autumn mouse mat gorgeous. 😊😊
Your videos give me so much inspiration 😊 I just opened my Etsy shop and made my first sale last week! These videos give me so much motivation while working on new ideas for my shop. Your creations are the cutest :3
I have been so excited waiting for this vlog, once I saw the enamel pins and launch set on on fb. The enamel pins are Absolutely amazing and I get so proud of u and your journey watching these
What adorable pin collections you've created! Also can we take a minute to appreciate that insanely cute little candy corn you have on your desk! haha I squealed lol
Such a great release! Waiting for the post to come with my new autumn gaming mouse mat! The best customer support! Asked a question and both Dean and Mike answered so fast!
My gosh. I used to watch you back when you started. How far you've come! I'm happy to see. Anyways just fyi. On the shop features. Sorting out mouse mats, results give art prints and mouse mats.
Love the vlog yes I was thinking about having a print on demand do my manufactured shirts as well but I would include my little logo by embedding it into the artwork. I did a experiment with it it looks nice. Just a thought
I'm not a pin person but I love the collections. For the pastel witch, what would you think about lightening up the background to make the pin stand out more?
I've sold print on demand products before and the main reason I stopped was because I had no control of the quality of the products that were sent out. I felt uneasy putting my business' reputation in the hands of another company, so I eventually had to stop. And yes, the profit margins are so small that it wasn't worth it in the end. However, I'd love to sell apparel someday too! I just don't have the cash flow or the space to store all of the colors and sizes of shirts either! 😞
I remember being at the same exact crossroads probably a year ago when I was deciding whether or not I wanted to have printed t-shirts sent to me, I package them up with my packaging, and then ship them out OR just have the t-shirt printer make and ship them out themselves. I was also super stuck on the idea of not being able to package those orders with my delightfully silly packaging. It wasn't until I had a disaster with a Christmas order that included a t-shirt, that I decided that having the shirts mailed to me opens the door to crazy shipping delays at the worst possible times 😅 Not long after that debacle I integrated my store with Printful and they've honestly been doing fantastic work. Seeing people be able to order the fun shirts I design and wear them out in public has brought me so much joy and I'm glad I stopped holding myself back from having people just get the shirts! I hear that you can send Printful your branding to include in the packaging (and they can print a custom tag directly on the shirt?) but I haven't tried it yet so can't give a review on how it works. But the shirts themselves are lovely; the colors come out beautifully and the Bella Canvas shirts especially are such a nice and soft texture (I've used them for some summer tank top designs and they're perfectly lightweight for that) I'm hoping you end up finding an apparel POD solution that works for you 🤞💖
My order is in and I've added more to a Christmas idea list 😊 I'm really starting to feel cosy now 😀 I can't wait for the Christmas mouse mat! Such a good idea having the bags so you can store them seasonally.

Yayyy! I ordered the cafe scene jumbo mouse mat! I’m literally excited! Royal Mail has emailed me that it’s en route to the US 🤗🎃☕️🌇 I’m really excited about the apparel adventure! I’m thinking they’ll have their own shipping fees, which would mean buying a few designs at once may be advantageous. Anyway, exciting times!!! 🍃🍂🍁☀️
I love your stuff so much!!! Watching you unbox the enamel pins was sooooooo satisfying!!!!!!!! They're sooooo cuuuuuuuuuteeee!!!!!! I just placed my order (even though it's much later from launch. I had been debating wether getting stuff or not since I don't have a lot of money right now but your stuff is just too cute to pass up!!! And also autumn is my favorite season so this was a no brainer for me!!!!!) I can't wait to get my little hands on the stuff!!!!!! I'm going to love and care for them so much!!!! I've loved watching your vlogs and seeing you unbox your items/merch!!! It's such a delight!!!! As an artists myself I hope to one day be able to also have a small business and create stuff of my own, so you inspire me a lot!!!! Lots of love
Use a print on demand service, they allow tons of branding "printful" does everything you mention, packaging. labels etc! Cards too, they integrate right into your shop!!! Printfuul, has locations in UK, that's who I just started with, I will give you my opinion when I finally get going!
Oh my goodness, those mouse mats are absolutely stunning. I don’t even like autumnal colours normally, but I absolutely love love love that cafe mousemat. The artwork is outstanding. I need an excuse to get a mousemat. I only use a laptop and have no fixed desk though. 😢
@katnipp Can you maybe quickly make a solid color star or some shape behind the pastel witch without changing the rest of the background? Not sure if that helps or you had already thought of it 😅As an entrepreneur and getting ready to start a new business I appreciate your organization.. plus I Love your work! 💖
I would do an area in the center of the pin backing cards like a a slightly opaque whiteish circular area that fades out so that you can still keep the entire design on the card, but the area in the center where the pin will sit would be muted so it would stand out. sorry I can't think of exactly how to say it but, I hope you understand what I mean.
I love the pins with the silver! It makes them stand out from your other pins. Maybe you could do different metal colors for each season if your manufacturer offers that. Also, I do print on demand (for hardcover journals and notebooks). I think it’s great to see what designs will sell as there’s zero upfront cost. However, all of my other items are made by me, so I will warn if a customer buys something you ship and the POD ships they might get confused when they don’t have the shirt or whatever. Just be transparent as possible about it in your listings(even though some POD and dropshipping RUclipsrs say to not share it…) I use Printify, they’re super easy to use and I’m planning to get certain designs manufactured, as another downside to POD is the fact that the profit is so slim and there’s little room to be competitive. I also can’t offer international on my POD products because I would be charged VAT (it’s like you’re ordering it) then the customer pays a VAT tax and it’s too much. Regardless, it’s a good way to test what sells, but you don’t get a lot of profit and you also don’t control the quality, shipping or packaging. There’s a RUclipsr I watch coconutacha who is also in the uk and does what you wanted to do and it’s eaten a lot of profits to buy in bulk and then not have enough or too much. POD has a risk, but I think it’s one to take so you can see what should be manufactured by you or someone else permanently. Also, art of where is a print on demand company that focuses more on artists, they let you add custom labels and tags, but it’s another expense that takes from your profits. Do your research into POD companies as there’s more beyond printful and Printify.
Ahhh this is brilliant thank you so much for your insights ❤❤❤❤ its defintely something I need to thoroughly rea search and look into! ❤❤❤❤ thank you so much! ❤
@@KatnippStudiosyou’re welcome! I think it’s worth a try, that way you can see what sells. Sometimes too clothing sells better in person like at markets and cons cuz then you can touch it or picture yourself better in it.
Love the mousemat!! Your website looks amazing! Would you mind sharing which theme you use for your website? (*also, about a year ago I went back and binge watched all of your vlogs from the beginning. So cozy, fun, and positive to watch! Very inspiring and helpful for a small business owner...I've had an Etsy shop since 2013 and have converted to Shopify just over a year ago.) Thanks for all that you share!
The purple backing cards are a bit busy as you mentioned. One suggestion would be to lower the opacity on everything against a white background? You still have the scene but everything is a bit more muted so the pins can stand out. The only downside is that the card colours don’t pop out as much. With that said, I ordered the autumn desk mat and am super excited for it to arrive!!

Another great studio vlog. I think the backing cards on the Pastel Witch cards are perfect as is, they are a beautiful scene and they can be kept as a bookmark once the pin is removed … a two for one😉 That’s my plan for mine.
Oh wow thank you hehe 🥹🥹⭐️🌸 that’s actually a great idea 🥹🌸
Yes this is definately something I need to consider ❤ thank you for sharing I deffo need to order samples first! ❤
*Cries in Australian* We're heading into summer here so I can't relate to the cozy autumn feels haha
🥲🥲🥲 dammit 😂 I always forget that’s a thing! 😅❤😂
I love the sound of the pins too 💖
Hi!! I love, love the autumn mouse mat, it is incredibly adorable. And the pins are so cute as well. Fantastic designs as always! Love them all!! ❤🤗
Hehehe oh my goodness thank you so so much! ❤❤❤❤
Would you ever think of doing a cup of tea pin? I would love that ❤
I can’t wait for the Christmas mouse mat!
Hehehe yayy ❤
Beautiful Autumn vibes at the studio! Love, love, love the new mats!
Hehehe aww thank you 🥹⭐️🌸
Might be worth talking/contacting Coconutacha as she is in similar situation to you with apparel. ❤
I love the mouse mats. I think the car on the autumn one needs a shadow, it kind of looks like it’s floating.
Oh dammit 😅a floating magic car appeared hehe 😂
I totally get wanting to personalize your product and have that full control. But it seems that you’re at a crossroads on being able to fully personalize and actually being able to fulfill your customer wishes. I have my fingers crossed for you darling! I know this will open up a ton of options for you! You know your company best! ❤
I agree! ❤❤❤ it’s time to just take the plunge and experiment!
I love the cozy cafe mousemat. It is my favorite of all your designs.
Oh my goodness tysm 🥹🌸🍂
The pins are the cutest and cutie vlog❤
It's awesome to hear about your plans to experiment with print-on-demand for apparel; it sounds like a smart move to offer more variety while avoiding excess inventory. Have a productive day!
There is print in demand company’s now that allow you to add your own branding with a thank you card and tags for apparel. That might help ☺️
Ohh yes! This would definately be better hehe ❤ tysm!
🌸 Go for the POD Catherine! 🤗 🌸
- don’t worry about the packaging at this point because you have a plenty of other cool products that you can wrap in a cute paper with your logo on it
POD is a far better solution for the jumpers (and will save you a lot of headaches !)
🌸 Go for it girl! 🌸 👍 you got this!
Awww thank you so so much! Hehehe I think I’m going to go for it and order some samples! ❤
💐💐aww, you're welcome Lovely! 💜💐💐
( yeah, order the samples. it's a good idea!👍🏻)
I’m so glad you enjoy filming and editing the vlogs because I love watching them!
Heheh aww thank you so much 🥹⭐️🌸🙏
U should try doing keyrings again and launch the main characters from each collection or two from each selection.
Those mouse pads are stunning!
You crack me up. I'm laughing hysterically, I like the crunch sound also😅😅😅. I'm glad your videos come out on Mondays they make me happy. I'm getting the autumn mouse mat gorgeous. 😊😊

Hehehe mini spins are perfect for filling gaps in a pin board too! ❤
Let's gooo, new studio vlog !! 💪☕
❤i love the pastel witch mousepad soooo cute ❤❤❤
🥹🥹🌸⭐️ thank you so much!
Love the vlog yes I was thinking about having a print on demand do my manufactured shirts as well but I would include my little logo by embedding it into the artwork. I did a experiment with it it looks nice. Just a thought
Ahhh this is a good idea 🌸🥹🥹🥹 thank you so much for sharing these ideas!
"Itsa me bumbleboot" 😂😂
I'm not a pin person but I love the collections. For the pastel witch, what would you think about lightening up the background to make the pin stand out more?
I wish I did this 😂😅 but unfortunately it’s too late now! Oh well I know for next time amirite heheh ❤
It wasn't until I had a disaster with a Christmas order that included a t-shirt, that I decided that having the shirts mailed to me opens the door to crazy shipping delays at the worst possible times 😅
Not long after that debacle I integrated my store with Printful and they've honestly been doing fantastic work. But the shirts themselves are lovely; the colors come out beautifully and the Bella Canvas shirts especially are such a nice and soft texture (I've used them for some summer tank top designs and they're perfectly lightweight for that) I'm hoping you end up finding an apparel POD solution that works for you 🤞💖
My order is in and I've added more to a Christmas idea list 😊 I'm really starting to feel cosy now 😀
I can't wait for the Christmas mouse mat! Such a good idea having the bags so you can store them seasonally.
Hehehe aww thank you so so much 🥹🥹⭐️🌸✨
I love when you make long vlogs💜💜💜
Oh wow thank you so so much! ❤❤❤ hello all the way in Argentina! ❤
Oh my goodness thank you so so much!!!! I hope you love your goodies! 🥹🥹🌸🌷⭐️ let me know if you like them hehehe
Use a print on demand service, they allow tons of branding "printful" does everything you mention, packaging. labels etc! Cards too, they integrate right into your shop!!! Printfuul, has locations in UK, that's who I just started with, I will give you my opinion when I finally get going!
ohh thank you so so much for the advice and tips, this is very very helpful hehe ✨ YOU DA BEST 🌿
As soon as I saw the autumn mouse mat I immediately went to go buy it! It is sold out 😫 I hope you have a restock, they are adorable!
:') Im so sorry They sold out straight away we couldn't believe it!
Any chance we’d be able to get 90x40cm mouse mats in the future? 👀 I need the extra space for fps gaming 🙈
I love the way you end your videos it's so cute! 😄
awww wow thank you so so much heheh 🌸
Oh my goodness, those mouse mats are absolutely stunning. I don’t even like autumnal colours normally, but I absolutely love love love that cafe mousemat. The artwork is outstanding. I need an excuse to get a mousemat. I only use a laptop and have no fixed desk though. 😢
Oh my goodness hehe thank you so so much! It makes me happy that you like it ❤❤❤❤❤
Aw I love the T-shirts wish they were still in stock 🤩🤩🤩
aww thank you! They are still in stock actually heheh 🌿
@4:37 Ahhh no more wilko wipes anymore, so sad!
Are you still drinking the AG1 shakes? How did you like them? Did they help you feel better? Do they taste bad?
Are you releasing anymore notepads or to do lists? ❤
I will be hopefully 😂😅 I just keep forgetting 😂😅😅😅😢
@katnipp Can you maybe quickly make a solid color star or some shape behind the pastel witch without changing the rest of the background?
Not sure if that helps or you had already thought of it 😅As an entrepreneur and getting ready to start a new business I appreciate your organization.. plus I Love your work! 💖
Heheh aww dammit I didn’t have time hehehe😂❤ thank you so much for watching. ❤
Just be transparent as possible about it in your listings(even though some POD and dropshipping RUclipsrs say to not share it…)
I use Printify, they’re super easy to use and I’m planning to get certain designs manufactured, as another downside to POD is the fact that the profit is so slim and there’s little room to be competitive.
Printful and Printify offer branding and business inserts in the package.
Ohhh thank you for sharing this ❤
Ahhh you could do a hydrangea girl and call her Heidi🤣
The purple backing cards are a bit busy as you mentioned. One suggestion would be to lower the opacity on everything against a white background? You still have the scene but everything is a bit more muted so the pins can stand out. The only downside is that the card colours don’t pop out as much. With that said, I ordered the autumn desk mat and am super excited for it to arrive!!
Ahhh dammit 😅❤ your right they were too busy! They still look cute but I’ll know for next time to make them a little more simple 😂❤
Hahaha, the little wings are tucked under the hat b/c he's flying on the broom so he's resting them for now.
Hehehe 😂 I love this 🐝
