Bunny rabbits are adorable enough when they're just sitting there twitching their pink noses or lapping water up from their little bottles, but when they're hopping over brightly colored fences like tiny, long-eared horses while their super-enthusiastic trainers cheer from the sidelines, it makes you wonder why rabbit show jumping isn't on TV all the time. We recently spent the day at the Rabbit Grand National in Harrogate in Yorkshire, England, to witness this space-time-bending level of cuteness for ourselves. Show jumping tests bunnies' speed and agility as they race down the course, dreaming of winning the big trophy or at least of getting treats when they finish. We met a two-and-a-half-year-old bunny named Cherie. Her trainer, Magdelena, says Cherie's favorite things in the world are jumping, hay, and carrots (and probably fucking a whole bunch, if we know anything about rabbits). Cherie annihilated the competition, finishing the race in just 12.5 seconds! Way to go, Cherie!

Nah its cause its animal abuse, bunnies are prey animals. They are scared and uncomfortable when they are picked up. Imagine putting them through this much stress shooting lights and a lot of ppl around watching and a new surrounding. These animals aren't made for this, these aren't dogs.

That actually is the safe way to hold a rabbit; they are very prone to wriggling away and easily break their backs.
@@horsepanther not really and it's subjective the problem is some rabbits have a hard time breathing on their back.
We have no way to notice if they are having a hard time breathing or not so the best option is just not put them on their backs.
My rabbit's veterinarian is an exotic pet vet..... But I've come to notice is if you think of them as farm animals then you still will most likely treat them a lot differently but when you start treating them like the exotic animals that they are, you become more precautious.
I don't hold my rabbits on their back they can't stand it because it seems to bother them I imagine they have a hard time breathing and I've seen some rabbits that are okay with it.... Sometimes it's best to just make the assumption that they won't tell us or let us know so maybe we should not do it.
I don't like to be one of those condescending people on the internet but this is not the way to hold a rabbit to keep them from writhing around either. Mine will flip right back over & go 10 X harder on unpredictable jumping.
I tried it at first and they weren't having it so it clearly bothers them.
my veterinarian is a rabbit specialist and those are hard to come by she does not recommend holding rabbits upside down. like I said I know it's subjective some people think it's okay and some don't but I really couldn't even if I wanted to they won't let me. it might be okay as long as a bunny is calm and breathing but it's hard to know if your bunny likes that or not because sometimes they cannot kick or actually move their bodies around like they should to tell you they're in distress.
Best guess is just to not do it.....and they also need to drink water from a dish.
Those metal straws are bad for their teeth.
@@horsepanther my bad if I'm wrong but it looked like trancing which is not ideal for rabbits at all and everything I've read and heard suggests it should only be used as a last resort

@@melodiclogic9904 they did a program around 2012. Of a brief animal Olympics if they were human size. They had high jump, swimming etc. But all the animals were human size. It was scary and made my brain hurt. But it was incredible. I think they took what an animal could do as their normal size and then made the program to show what they would do if they were human size. But it was amazing. There are some pretty cool animals. The one that got me was I think it was some kind of lizard. The speed it was able to pretty much walk over water was insane.

The bunny could potentially go into paralysis which is not treatable. Not only that, but whenever a bunny is held this way, it's very very stressful for them. So refrain from doing so

I sometimes lie my leg on the floor and my rabbit has the hardest time figuring out how to get over it lmao. He'll even try a running start but as soon as he reaches my foot he stop. He just needs some more work

I clicked on this video hoping for a cute and cheerful video yet the first shot is someone trancing their rabbit. When I was quickly made aware that the people in this video didn't have proper education on rabbits, it was immediately ruined for me.

That ruined it for me too. Luckily this was filmed 8 years ago and there's a lot more education about good rabbit care these days.

You have to train your bunny first but not before it has turned 4 months old. Just 1-5cm the first time with maybe 3 fences and train att 15-30cm for a couple of months before you can go higher

The sad part about rewatching this video in 2024 is that you know for certain all the bunnies have passed away. It breaks my heart to watch them again nonetheless I return every year.

I LOVE bunnies!! People that aren't around rabbits don't realize the different little personalities that they have. I had 2 bunnies, one I got as a teen that lived for 4 years, and another one I got in my 20s that lived for 8 years. After I married and later had my daughter, when she would cry as a newborn, Spanky would come from wherever he was in the house, run into the bedroom and stand by the bed, looking up, as if to say "what on Earth are you doing to my sister?!", lol! When she reached crawling age, Spanky was oddly protective, staying right on her heals wherever she crawled off to. He NEVER would leave her side, and their bond was really special. Unfortunately he passed away when Madison was 2, but I'm so grateful to have witnessed the great friendship between my fur-baby and my human baby!!
