Good info. I have a DBX 128 I haven't used in years, not sure I ever really knew how to use it when I had it in my vintage system. It's been mothballed for years along with its manual and I've thought about connecting it to my Marantz 2270 to improve FM broadcast sound. I was looking for a video on the 128 when I saw this one. Is it possible for you to do one on the 128, describe some basics and differences, applications, etc.?
I have one that the power supply has failed. I'll fix it one of these days. I used to run it ABOVE THRESHOLD with 1.2 - 1.4 expansion. Really adds some presence to the music without noticeable added artifacts.
Am I wrong for saying I can't tell the difference between any of the audio (because I'm watching it on RUclips). Like I listen to the whole thing and it all sounds of the same.
@@marcusdolby1Do you hear a differentce on RUclips though because I hear nothing. It sounds exactly the same. Like I was thinking maybe it was having some sort of stereophonic effect and I need to be there in person to hear it.
@@TheTarrMan I hear a big difference, but I've been using compressor limiters for 30+ years. They are designed to control the dynamic range of an audio signal. So to the untrained ear you probably won't notice much.
@@G.GordonMidi Well I'm listening to this on my Pioneer SX-1250 with HPM-100's and I didn't hear anything. (Literally called the "best receiver/amplifier of the 1970's". . . . It's a very good system I have.) That's why I'm so suspicious because the audio file community is ripe with snake oil and they've been doing this trickery for a while. I'm trying to build my own version of "the greatest audio system in the world" using vintage equipment. I want to know if I'm gonna be wasting my money. I've never experienced one of these in person but I've heard far too many stories not to mention this demonstration really have some red flags up. (I also vaguely remember a divorce joke and the punchline is something about the husband buying one of these.) Also Dr. Bose basically pioneered trickery with sound what was his study on psychoacoustics. (I would prefer to keep that out of my system. I'm not hating, I'm just one of those "insufferable audio file" types.) That's why I'm asking if it's for real and I just actually need to be there in person to experience it. Because right now I barely heard anything. The mic on the phone recording this clipping more than anything, but otherwise I heard literally nothing. Maybe RUclips is doing something with the audio. Is that a possibility?
Super cool piece of equipment and well explained! Thanks
Thanks for the detailed description. I’ve been seeing these used for a bit. Definitely a good option vs the highly desired option. 👍🏾✊🏾✌🏾
Thanks for the comment.
Great explanation!
The 118 and 128 are exceptional units.
what about the DBX117 ?
Excelente video y explicación
Way better than the 160x to my ears

Sounds like a drum loop from Montrose. Rock Candy.
Hi - is this a mono or stereo processor?
Stereo.
Hey Mark, is this for sale?
It was but it sold.

If your not a professional recording engineer you probably won’t hear a difference.

@@TheTarrMan I can definitely hear it and most of the time it’s not subtle either. I’m listening through my iPhone speakers too
