- The Game Changers documentary revolutionized plant-based eating in professional sports and was a key component in the rise of plant-based nutrition among men and athletes. In this episode, I sit down with the producer James Wilks, an elite combatives instructor and winner of The Ultimate Fighter. James is a no-BS, open hearted intellectual, full of passion and charisma, and spent years of his life researching the science behind plant based eating when he was recovering from an injury and looking for answers to heal and stay healthy. James has broken a lot of narratives because of his motivation and desire to push the limits to get the heart of the topic at hand.
The Game Changers was executive produced by James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Lewis Hamilton, and Chris Paul, and the film went on to become the most viewed documentary of all time, garnering unprecedented accreditations from the U.S. Department of Defense Health and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Wilks was subsequently ranked by Men’s Health as #3 on their list, “The 13 Most Influential Men in Health & Fitness.”
In this episode we cover:
James’ plant-based advocacy journey
What led him to the creation of The Game Changers movie
His debate with Chris Kresser on the Joe Rogan Experience
How the world of athletics has been influenced by his film
The rise in plant based eating among men, athletes, and professoinal sports
Why the general public is so confused about nutrition science
The most frustrating things he’s seeing in food recommendations and athletics
The rise in popularity of organ meats, carnivore diets and collagen intake
Protein myths
What he’s working on now and exciting projects he’s involved in

Love this man and Game Changers is probably my most favourite documentary ever. Every time I've got a new friend in my life I watch it with them.
did you get brainwashed by them and became a vegan?
@@susanwjoh0re735 not as brainwashed as you, listening to all those burger King and pizza hut commercials 😂 tell me you "chose" your lunch all on your own
@@ASMRyouVEGANyet well noo. my lunch is always meat flavored with lemon and white rice. white rice is my only grain because it has the least anti nutrients. anything else you want to ask?
@@susanwjoh0re735brainwashed
I wish you would have done this with a “pro carnivore”
Dr. Paul Saladino would have been great!
Your pro life vs pro choice video was my favorite podcast. Very respectful but great to hear such passion on both sides. Facts vs facts!!
Maybe a future video?! 🤍
I don't think most people want to have a "pro carnivore" in their house. That's like one step away from a serial killer.
@@rasputozen so silly!!!!!! Every single ancestor of yours which has enabled you to be alive an dcommenting that nonsense has been a meat eater. Stop being a city boy with no sense.
@@an67481 Many early civilizations were plant-based. You're not an anthropologist and have never opened a single book on anthropology so don't speak for "every single ancestor". And even with the early civilizations that did consume meat, they did it out of survival with no other option, a very different context from people consciously and intentionally choosing to do it today when they have many other options.
@@rasputozen Humans are omnivores which means it's human nature to eat meat.
Hi keri, if I do an episode with someone like Paul Saladino it would be with an opposing views person to speak with them so that I can host the debate. I'm working on more opposing views episodes but trying to coordinate in-person conversations with two guests (which I prefer over the internet) is no easy feat haha. So I will still be doing plenty of episodes like this where I sit down with someone I admire in between those episodes.
Great episode, Ellen! Question, do you remember where you got that dress from?! It is absolutely gorgeous ❤
LOVED THE GAME CHANGERS
LOVE JAMES WILKS
LOVE ELLEN FISHER
Love the conversation and the Game Changers🥰🌱
I tried watching Game changers and the sound cut out half way through- disappointed
Another great episode, thanks Ellen.
Also very cool to know about the lupin! I recently found some lupin tempeh which was so yummy 😋
Hi, fabulous. The alleged sequestration of carbon by grass fed cows is from the added off-farm food for the chickens which then fertilise the soil which makes the plants grow which sequester the carbon. So the effect is from off-farm, not some magic property of cattle. This sequestration also decreases over time.
I really want to incorporate more veggies in my diet. Been eating mostly meat based. How can I do this without hurting my tummy. I find it difficult to digest veggies. So gassy. Any suggestions ?
If you're into bodybuilding or want to overall increase your protein intake, I'd highly recommend textured pea protein. Very delicious with some tomato sauce, doesn't cause bloating or digestibility issues for most people + very rich in iron and aminoacids. I cook 200g with some tomato sauce recipe of my mom and pack it into three meals lol it has about 45grams of protein per meal just from the textured peas, never have to worry abt meal prep this way. If you're vegeterian you can melt some shredded cheese on top for some more protein, also def boosts the taste or go for vegan cheese if you're vegan :)
Cook them . Don’t eat them raw.
You might be sensitive to the anti-nutrients. Many plants can cause deficiencies due to these anti nutrients that block/hinder bioavailability of actual nutrients. Anti-nutrients are the plant’s self defence. Oxalates are just one type of anti nutrients, and can cause disease as they all can.
I had same issue.they used to give me ache because of high fibre ..key is to increase them slowly.it takes time for good bacteria groe and digest them .these days i can easily eat 50-70g of fibre per day.
I developed histamine issues on a vegan diet and felt unable to continue for the sake of my baby( I was 7 months pregnant). I was dizzy and lethargic and even though I was supplementing and eating a lot of plants- I was ill. Collagen helped me immediately, as my gut was and is still leaky. Id love to see a video addressimg how vegan diets can heal candida or histamine issues. I didnt see any...
Histamine means you were allergic or intolerant to a certain food you were eating. You should've addressed what was causing those issues by a simple food allergy test or by elemination.
@@paleblank0 I was about to say this. Idk why people have a hard time using Google and picking up a phone to talk to a plantbased doctor who understands this stuff.
Awesome
‘If you’re eating enough calories, you’re eating enough protein’ - 😂 pls tell me you’re kidding
The age old story:
Animals are not like us in any way, they are different from us.
OKAY, THEN WHY DO YOU TEST PRODUCTS ON ANIMALS TO SEE IF THEY ARE HARMFUL FOR HUMANS?
Let them (these scientists) tap-dance around that question and see with what ridiculous answers they come up with.
Thank you for hosting this podcast. I advocate for eating pasture raised grass fed, grass finished meat and dairy. However, I do not advocate for eating a lot of that. I mostly vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts seeds, and I supplement my diet with raw dairy, fresh fish and some meat and eggs. Well I will never be a vegan, I do appreciate the episode. I think that everyone can benefit from eating more plant foods.
Shame about the animals lives you’re eating though… can’t mention that though can we….

@@Vegan_PhotographsI eat plant based but you sound silly. Think of all the insects dying for your plants to be grown
@@cmad2345 think of all the plants being grown for all those animals who will be killed for human selfishness. Do you ever hear yourself? You actually just advocated for plantbased eating because something like 75% of major crops are grown for animals and not humans. So if you're worried about insects then you'll eat plants because your diet will require less land used and less plants harvested which means less insects killed. There's also the matter of intent. When someone takes a cow or chicken to a slaughter house, they intend to kill them. When plants are harvested, insect deaths is not the intent. Are you low on B12? Might need to take a supplement because your brain functioning is a bit off
@@cmad2345there is definitely difference between a death coming to insect suddenly during farming and a very conscious animal grown in inhumane conditions and then the horror they go through during travel to slaughterhouse.
Would love to see you interview Joe Rogan
James makes some assumptions that have been disproven in many studies. He assumes that saturated fat is undesirable, I imagine that is because it has, in the past, been associated with heart disease. That has been completely disproven in many studies. He also makes an assumption that fiber is desirable in ones diet. There is so much information and studies that fiber is not necessary for a healthy gut and microbiome, and that it is often problematic for gut health.
Ellen, I have appreciated your willingness to represent opposing viewpoints. However I have never seen you represent the many benefits of a predominately animal-based diet. You call the experiences that many of us have on a meat-based diet, "misconceptions"! Are you willing to consider that you hold a strong bias that you are unwilling to challenge on your you tube interviews? I have never been happier, healthier and had more energy than I have for the last two years that I have been largely eating carnivore. I believe that this is our most evolutionarily appropriate diet. Watching the "game changer" I was so disappointed to see many untruths or half-truths stated as fact. I would love to have you include an interview with Nina Teicholz who has done a thorough amount of research and has done a really good job in exposing how industries and educational centers (like Harvard, the school which has sponsored many of the studies that have been shown to be fraught with paid industry bias and are the studies mentioned often in "Game Changer") have infiltrated what is considered nutritional science.
I offer you the challenge of representing both sides of the story.
I don't understand the whole"debate" concept for discussing our different choices on diet. Why do we need to disprove each other's points of view? Why can't we accept that different people make different choices for their own reasons. All these different studies that James brings up in this interview have many holes and biases and do not give clarity about "the truth". Your information, James, is also totally disprovable.
There's no evidence with long term studies on carnivore diets. There are multiple, long term studies on plantbased diets. Sorry but you'll feel the effects in a few years.
😂😂 zero facts, just some long rant. 1/10 ..
Iam sorry to report that James is not plant based. He is a cannibal , he ate Joe and chris on their podcast 😂
9:45 toxic masculinity 😂
Joe Rogan sucks
Yeah
The game changers is full of lies and half truths.
Name them
Since english isn't my mother language: you found it cool that males wanted to get their girlfriends pregnant but couldn't because they got a vasectomy? What's cool about that?
Yeah I think you misunderstood the witty banter
Joe Rogan*** not James Rogan
Such a great episode!! Thank you so much, Ellen, for having such amazing guests on your podcast who truly educate us on plant-based nutrition. This is has been game-changing for me on my journey to vegetarianism and has helped me feel more confident when my non-vegetarian friends and family question my and my husband’s choice to not eat meat. There is so much fear and misinformation out there about not eating meat, and your podcast guests have really empowered me to feel confident in my decision and my ability to kindly and informedly respond to criticisms. Thank you!!
im so glad to hear this! thanks for sharing :)
Paul Saladino addressed a lot of James Wilks's points made in the argument Chris Kresser. ex. James would use epidemiology when convenient but would point it out as a flaw when not in his favor.
As Ellen Fisher says at ruclips.net/video/qLtn3sQ2jBE/видео.html, "it's integral to listen to both sides to understand what is the truth here."
It's a good listen if you are open to discussion and not set in hearing that your current thoughts are correct.

I have switched to mostly plant based and have felt way better. Endurance and strength feel better
I feel like Covid quenched a lot of momentum that was building after The Game Changers :( Such an influencial, beautifully produced film. James is a great guy and I'd highly reccommend watching his appearance with Joe Rogan with Chris Kresser - it's joyful
How do you say that? Vegans need to be more confident about the facts. COVID came from a slaughterhouse
@@veganevolutionlol covid seems to have come from a lab
We are basically fruitarians and all our diet even meat should be oriented through it like cooking( ripen) our food ....
Cholesterol is an antioxidant, actually
Thank you so much for this Ellen!!💕
Such a great Talk. This would be one of my favourite interviews on the podcast love all the information talked about here! Thank you ellen 👏
I would have liked to have listened to James talk about calcium intake, and absorption.
could someone mark the time where he speaks about collagen?
He speaks about collagen starting at ~46 minutes.
46:18
James was perfect on Rogan can't believe he was trying to send someone else on there! That debate was historic.
Where can I find the joe rogan episode? Seems it's private
Joe Rogan made it unwatchable but I think he kept all the pro meat videos up. Typical
@ASMRyouVEGANyet that's crazy. Was it cuz James destroyed them??
This isn't Lena pual and johnny sins!!!!
Love this one ellen!!
Arnold and Novak both eat meat, probably others in the film also.
And?

Shut the front door!!!! Wahoooo!!! My hero!!!! ♡♡♡
Plant based food makes more money to kelloggs than most producers all together. There is nothing natural about plant base foods especially when those foods are made in factories.
Please provide sources to back up your claims
Also,do you only ever eat natural foods? Can you say you NEVER eat anything processed???
I am fine with unnatural food and being sick.at least its not coming from hellhouse slaughterhouse.
Big fan of beef butter eggs. Whole foods.
Unfortunately there’s a risk to life longevity with these choices. Check out the science. Simon hill shares some very sound data.
You must smell great.
