    "Peterson’s free speech rights are not under threat
    There are are a lot of important free speech issues out there, including newspapers’ right to publish national security leaks, access to a free and open Internet, and the right to protest. But Jordan Peterson’s “free speech” claims are confused and based on unproven claims around Canadian law.
    In May 2016, the Canadian Parliament began debating bill C-16, which would add gender identity to forms of discrimination covered under Canadian human rights law. So, for instance, if someone lost housing or health benefits because of their gender identity, they could sue an institution under federal jurisdiction that denied them those benefits, just as they could if they were discriminated against based on their race or religion. It also added gender identity to the country’s hate speech codes, which cover the advocacy of genocide against a group of people, and its hate crime codes, which allow judges, for instance, to assign additional penalties for crimes that target particular groups of people.**"*

      Jordan is completely apolitical. Just because his views on actual biology line up with the right doesn’t make him a right winger. That’s like saying because I think immigrants should be allowed in the us and gay people should have marriage rights that I’m a liberal. I agree with some liberal ideas and some right wing ideas. Politics means nothing to me. I judge each situation or issue on the issue. Not on some politic bs

    I like how Jordan sees a big problem with inequality when it comes to men getting women (creating anxiety and desperation leading to destructive behaviour), but doesn't draw the parallell to economic inequality.
    Serious psychologists take an interest in the social and psychological consequence of extreme wealth inequality, but not Jordan. He could study his fan base to see what happens when people feel they're losing social status.

    I live in Canada and literally graduated from University of Toronto where Peterson's claim to fame comes from a year after the controversy over him erupted.
    He at first might have had a point on free speech but the problem was his public career was built on a fallacy. He conflated speech codes at uft with Trudeau's bill expanding rights under the criminal code for trans people federally. They were not directly related but he made them to be for his narrative.

    • @RetiredInThailand
      @RetiredInThailand 6 лет назад +3

      JANHOI MCCALLUM exactly!!! He conflated the university's workplace policies as criminal law.
      I too live and work in Toronto, and fall under the exact same workplace guidelines. There are guidelines that tell me what the company considers discrimination and harassment, which is their right to do. There are also guidelines for health and safety, handing company and client data, cyber security practices, ethical business practices ... I need to take a refresher course on these guidelines every year, and except for certain few unethical business practices, I will not be subject to criminal charges for violating any of them. I can be fired for violations, but that's pretty standard.

      It's been exaggerated by Peterson from the beginning regardless as has been born out by the facts that emerged any way, he equated a thought experiment with misinformation about any reality of his line of thought to actually happening as a fact that would happen. Cause and affect! But ignoring facts that no one has ever been convicted of it and that it already existed elsewhere as an amendment that's ever been forced to pay a fine and then jailed for it. He's got more opportunity of being jailed for not paying a parking fine than misusing a pronoun! It's just disingenuous of him to follow that stream of thought and call himself rational thinker.

    Old JP is a walking example of a shitty therapist. To involved with himself, to help others. As a person with PTSD and have been through many therapists, many are ego driven manipulators who tout old outdated techniques. I have never heard JP say the words EMDR or speak of underlying trauma behind depression, anxiety, PTSD etc. He gives the equivalent of the old pull your self up by your boot straps therapy teqniques. I can personally attest that EMDR saved my life, and therapists such as him made my symptoms worse not better.
    I am passionate about this because I feel he does a disservice to those seeking therapy and not able to admit they have issues.

      Azure Dystopia This is a very good example of how Peterson takes mythic symbolism and Jungian archetypes and gets things bass-ackward.
      Because (some) mythologies represent nature or creative principles as female and ordering principles as male, Peterson seems to take that to mean that female means chaos and to be male means to be the source of order.
      Not only do not all mythologies actually work that way or that neatly, rather than consider why that should be so all he does is assume that it reveals some underlying truth of existence. Which is an odd thing to do.
      Edited for typos.

      IP Freely California has a Hispanic majority yet they don't enjoy majority privilege. Even if the White population dipped below 50% nationwide, they'd still hold disproportionate power and privilege. It's a similar dynamic in Latin America and other regions with a long history of colonialism/racial oppression imposed by a White authority.

      IP Freely Ok. Denying that would be willfully ignorant. I bet his followers don't make that distinction though. And I'm certain I heard Rubin say that there is no systemic racism in the US, because there are no actual racial laws. He then said that black people have a socioeconomic disadvantage, revealing that he probably doesn't know what the word systemic means. It's just that everything these guys say seem very tendentious. They start with a conclusion they know is favored by a certain segment, and kind of just make sloppy arguments to get there.

    • @NotShowingOff

      Eagle Knight the reason why this is the case is because it is whites and people of color. People of color have several different ethnic backgrounds. It’s true there are relics from f colonialism in many countries. But in the USA and Canada, Europe and even South America race is also in flux. That’s why even though whites may not be the literal majority, they still represent the dominant ethnicity because you can’t put all ppl of color under one origin.

The audience of all these IDW people has an extreme far-right flank and a moderate flank that vehemently denies the extremists exist, that the extremists are being serious, or that the extremists have bad motives. I'd genuinely prefer for the IDW audience to all be extremists so that we could point them out, state why they're wrong, and hold the IDW accountable instead of being gaslit.

    (5:25) "This should not have made it past peer review." It didn't. It was published in a book, and hence is not peer reviewed in the normal sense of the term. Crucially, the actual peer reviewed papers by Peterson are nearly all about the "big five personality traits", and are a technical and boring as that implies. The stuff he is famous for as an internet guru, on the other hand, does not make an appearance in his academic papers. No surprise, of course, for it consists in reactionary politics justified by mysticism, and supported by off the cuff statements about "facts" that he typically gets wrong.

    Jordan Peterson claims 10% of the population have an IQ score of below 83. Peterson also claims that this means that 10% of the population are therefore unemployable. He bases this on the fact that the US Military will not accept anyone with an IQ score below 83.
    Jordan Peterson cites what He calls The Industrial organizational intelligence literature and utilizes this in order to try to construct a wider claim that IQ, being a measure of a persons ability for Abstract thought, is a sufficient basis as a general measure on which He purports to base such an assertion, as a fact. He therefore uses this maneuver of taking this specific literature as sufficient for constituting a general claim. so He is therefore trying to claim that, while His use of specific Literature can on the one hand be deemed factual, the scientific literature on climate change should be viewed as insufficient for making similar factual claims on the other hand.
    if you put together the clues from His own utterances, you can see there is a connection between Petersons use of Industrial organizational intelligence literature, it is allied with His specific example of the US Military as a baseline Industry. this indicates that Peterson may well be talking from a perspective of a Military based Industry as a measure of the Necessary requirements for employability of the population in general.
    so Peterson is extrapolating out from these specifics into making a wider more general claim about who and how many of the people in society might be deemed unemployable. He also regularly links Race with IQ and by using this Race component Peterson can get away with providing himself sufficient cover for fending off being criticized for making any such direct connections. His connections are left indirect.
    so if we begin to list out some of Petersons positions based on His own statements, we quickly end up with
    1: Peterson is Pro Industry when it comes to Science and IQ literature
    2: Peterson is Pro corporate when it comes to IQ literature
    3: Peterson is Pro Male when it comes to the Workplace
    4: Peterson is Anti corporate when it comes to Education
    5: Peterson is Anti Science when it comes to Climate Science
    6: Peterson is Suspicious of Female roles in the workplace
    7: Peterson is Not Suspicious of Female roles in Education
    8: Peterson is accepting of Race as a meaningful differentiator when it comes to IQ
    9: Peterson claims that 10% of the population are unemployable
    there are other positions but this is sufficient for now. you can generally rely on Peterson to find a left wing scapegoat for the ills of society even though He seems unable to understand that what He is often attacking is a center right Neo Liberalism. and you can generally rely on him for pandering to populism and conspiracy theories in order to expand his audience even while castigating climate science as being unscientific.
    finally here is one video of someone with an IQ score of 84 and is only just employable by his standards.
    ruclips.net/video/P1Sf3x3SeDk/видео.html
    Peterson represents Neuro Sciences gambit in gaining more respectability within the social sciences as part of the program of corporate powers strangle hold on the Education system which includes the eradication of critical theory. and now paradoxically the right wing are beginning to turn away from Peterson because I assume they see Him criticizing some of the extremism. they are doing this by starting to try to claim Peterson is a Theosophist.

      @tarafitzgerald3947 6 лет назад

      I would be impressed by this if I didn't know anything about statistics. Data isn't racist but the interpretation of numbers sure the hell can be. Mean differences have little to no predictive value and can tell us nothing about causality. An introductory statistics class would have beat this into your head. I'm assuming you never took one. All you are doing is parroting talking points used by pseudo intellectuals like Sam Harris. You are putting too much faith into one of the weakest forms of statistical analysis. If you had a cursory understanding of data analysis, you would never do this.

    • @tarafitzgerald3947
      @tarafitzgerald3947 6 лет назад +1

      *These differences are in the anthropological record and modern scientific peer reviewed literature....*
      Evidence that you have no clue what you are talking about.
      I never claimed these differences didn't exist. My point was that these differences are meaningless because they are completely useless. They show no causation and they lack predictive value. Also, your Aboriginal example is dumb. Invention depends on necessity. It has fuck all to do with cognitive differences in racial groups. Environmental pressure dictates necessity. Want to test it? Camp out in the Bush with a scientific calculator. Write back and tell me how well calculus saved your ass in the wild.

    • @tarafitzgerald3947
      @tarafitzgerald3947 6 лет назад +1

      Harry Hhhhjtfhn I know you are confused but it has nothing to do with my point. Nothing I stated is contradictory. Mean differences in population data do not provide any evidence for causality in terms of physical disposition or cognitive ability. Like I stated above, an introductory course in statistics would have taught you why that is the case. Population data is none experimental. There are no controls and too many degrees of freedom. There are no sound inferences that can be made from these data.
      Aboriginal people had no need for conquest or invasion from other neighboring cultures throughout most of their history, unlike Europeans and Asians. This made the necessity to invent obsolete. An objective point of view and the a ability to critically think should make this point pretty fucking obvious.

    • @tarafitzgerald3947
      @tarafitzgerald3947 6 лет назад +1

      Harry Hhhhjtfhn Aboriginal people live in an isolated area that is mostly land locked. This is true for areas of Africa, North America, and Papua new Guinea. Sure, they fought each other but they never came in contact with foreign invaders until European settlers came and pushed them off their land. Europe and Asia have a different history because they were surrounded by different empires. They fought but they also traded. This is significant because they were able to experience different cultures, taking ideas and inventions that would improve livelihood. Multiculturalism actually pushes society forward toward progress. It's demonstrable throughout history. Isolated areas lag behind while diverse areas flourish.
      In order to make a biological argument supporting racial differences you need a structure for evolution to work on. "The brain" is not specific enough. An area of cortex, or a specific allele must be verified for your assertion to be considered more than a mere speculation.You must show that these cognitive differences are due to evolutionary influences and this fact can be demonstrated by showing differences in brain organization. To my knowledge, there is no such area of cortex. If I had a brain scan of a white person and a black person I wouldn't be able to know the race of the individual simply by looking at the scan.
      IQ is a reliable measure for certain aspects of psychology. For neuropsychologists, it can assess the extent of a brain injury. For social psychologists, it can be used as a preliminary measure before assigning subjects to treatment groups. However it loses all value when it is looked at as an average for a population. There are too many variables that are not accounted for. This is hugely problematic if you want to base a theory on the data. This is why Murray got the criticism he did for it. It's a speculation based on a weak statistical measure. All in all, it's a silly, boring statistic that only seems to interest racists.

I wonder how his fanboys' comments have aged here since we've learnt he was a benzo addled depressive when he made muck of his ruckus. Then what does he think he's being other than political when he's criticizing and when he talks about "the left" "marxists" "postmodernists" and other groups he lumps together? Does he think being political is only talking about specific people/policies?
    I would really like to hear his criticisms of the right (not from him though, maybe something he wrote because his voice is like nails on a chalkboard, it's not just high pitched but it is so shaky like your voice gets when you are about to cry or are holding back a powerful emotion) and what he thinks about those who kill for money/resources directly and indirectly in capital systems. They are just as egregious as the marxists killing for ideology or the religious who kill for fairy tales they really like.
    I think he very much misses the point that people kill, ideologies don't. For a clinical psychologist I think it is kind of ironic that he attributes things done by everybody all through history and today to certain ideologies as if getting rid of the ideas that the horrendous acts will cease. People just need an excuse and sometimes they don't need even that or they just justify it later or fuck it, they never even care if it is justifiable.

    He *is* a psycho(logist) though so I’m sure it’s a very contrived attempt to bypass the part of people’s brains that tells them they should know better by appealing to their emotions, which shouldn’t be necessary if his arguments were valid.
    I loved it when Joe Rogan called him out for his hypocrisy and double standards, using equality of outcome (without actually coming out and calling it that though) to support one point and then denouncing it a few sentences later to try and support another, and Joe said, aren’t those both the same thing. His reaction was priceless.

The point I want to make is what I pressed him whether he really believed his own arguments, he said he did not! He was just arguing for the sake of argument! It made his day to argue with people. To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Jordan Peterson. His analyses are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of clinical psychology most articulations will go over a typical listener’s head. There’s also the professor’s anti-nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his persona- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Christian literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these observations, to realise that they’re not just stories- they say something deep about YOURSELF. As a consequence POSTMODERNISTS and NEO MARXISTS truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the meaning behind Peterson’s existential catchphrase “Clean up your room,” which itself is a cryptic reference to the prophetic tradition. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Carl Jung’s genius wit lives on through this shining beacon of rationalism. What fools.. how I pity them.
    And yes, by the way, i DO have a Pinocchio tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel you misguided LEFTIST IDEOLOGUE
