  • Heading out for another solo camp in the Toyota Tacoma truck camper! Got a new addition to the rig that is going to make camping an absolute joy. Found a new camping spot that I have not yet been to and its definitely not your traditional campground, but a blast doing some truck camping, cooking and fishing. Enjoy folks, thanks for being here!

    Truck does look great. Normally don't like camper shells on trucks, but with the roof bar, it compliments it.

    Looks like you're in the southeastern TN area near Chattanooga. I live in Cleveland just a little northeast and a county over in Bradley. I usually just camp in Polk county out past Lake Ocoee. We used to have good spots on the Jack's River roundabout but they ruined the private ones. Usually head out past the Ocoee River around I think Dam #3 is where you cross. It's been a bit and I don't do summer camping in the heatstroke inducing hellhole weather we have. Fall and winter only I own two 99 model CRV's that are perfect if you're 5'9". I have wanted your truck set up for a long time but man even 5 years ago the resale value on late 90's Tacoma's extended cab 3.4 V6 4wd with 6' bed was extremely high. I think they've gained value since.

    • @ConnorLee
      @ConnorLee  Месяц назад +1

      I would have to agree on the resale value! I believe mine has gone up since owning and adding miles to the odometer. Not sure I’ll ever sell it, but in the meantime, it gets good oem parts where it needs it and I plan to keep babying it through its life. Cheers!

      @@ConnorLee That's the truck that everyone wants. I have friends with drastically newer Taco's that run into different issues that you won't see on a 1st gen. The fact that the brand new ones are all turbo 4 cylinders is really sad. Shit it's pathetic those motors will not last.

    I don’t know what setup your using now but you can wire your camping battery to your truck charging system so that when the battery is drained you can crank the truck for a few minutes to let it charge and it will not affect your primary battery you use to start the truck

    • @ConnorLee

      That is a wonderful idea! Something like a wall outlet plug to a positive and negative clamp?

      That's a good call. My brother has a van set up with multiple lithium batteries. His purchase of solar according to him was a waste of money. I don't know the ins and outs of his set up but his batteries charge when driving.

    Love your rig, man! My build is pretty similar. I have the same truck and topper combo and CANNOT get the shell to quit leaking during rain/washing. Was wondering if you've had the same issue and/or been able to fix it.

    • @ConnorLee
      @ConnorLee  2 месяца назад

      Where is it leaking from?

    • @dee-here-now
      @dee-here-now 2 месяца назад +1

      @@ConnorLee Seems to be the gasket between the bed rails and the topper, but could also be the back of the bed as well. I replaced all the seals and that helped for a little bit but I think it gets wiggled around on bumpy roads or something. Windows got new butyl tape and are solid though!

    • @ConnorLee
      @ConnorLee  2 месяца назад +1

      @@dee-here-now I use 2 packs of the truck topper tape from home depot. It's grey in color. I do 2 layers on the bed rails and 3 layers on the part closest to the cab of the truck, overlapping all of the corners.

    What's the make/model of the cap you have? And what's the max interior height, and minimum?

    • @ConnorLee
      @ConnorLee  2 месяца назад

      I believe it’s an old leer 122 and if I removed the wooden buildout it is probably 4 ft at its tallest 3 ft at its shortest if I was making an accurate guesstimate. Taller towards the lift glass and shorter towards the cab of the truck 🤘🏼

      I still have it and plan to do so, just figured it was a good time to upgrade since I’m fishing a lot more rocky bottom rivers where I live now. A lot more access with a hardbody kayak, but the inflatable will be salvaged with some JB weld soon!
