- We put the new RIDGID 18V Brushless Cordless Ratchets to the test and break one in the process. RIDGID recently released the new R866010 1/4" 18V ratchet, the R866011 3/8" cordless ratchet, and the R866012 Brushless 1/2" ratchet. These battery-powered ratchets deliver 45 ft-lbs, 55 ft-lbs, and 60 ft-lbs respectively. Speeds vary from 325 RPM, 250 RPM, and 175 RPM as well. A variable-speed trigger allows the user to choose the exact speed desired. Our testing pushed the ratchets beyond their claims, which was a welcome surprise.

Drill- Packedge in typical box, came with a tool bag (added bonus), two batteries, one charger, drill, and driver. Two words "plenty of Torque" ruclips.net/user/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv well I guess that's three. Nice upgrade from current setup. Has belt clips, I don't think I will be using those. Driver and drill were bigger than what I expected but it is an upgrade from the current setup. For the money I would say that this is a great setup for Professionals and DIY/Weekend warriors.
Good looking ratchets with good torque overall but I was impressed with the 1/4” overall torque. Great reviews and good pricing too.
I got the 1/4 as it was on sale, considering getting the impact ratchet as well.
I already have the standard impact drivers, but I like the ratchet formfactor for a lot of different reasons even when it is not needed specifically for a given situation.
Great video thanks for making it.
I would love to have one of those but Home Depot Canada won't bring them in or even special order them.
So as much as I need and want one I am out of luck.
I'm sure they will appear soon enough, probably a couple months or so. In the meantime there's the Ryobi HP (which is extended as well), which is comparable; or, just go with what everyone else has been going with for years before these even existed--M12.
When you laid them down without batteries, it looked like they just rolled over and died!
Excelente, muchas gracias!!
Just like the new dewalts
Why the big ass battery? Thats why milwaukee is king. The small batteries are just a better design.
Exactly, If I've got that kind of room for a ratchet, I'll just grab my 3/8 Snap On air knuckle buster. I have Ridgid 3/8, 1/2 impact guns, 1/2 drill, and nut driver, and they are great.....but for a ratchet, M12 Milwaukee all day.
Because Ridgid stupidly gave up on their "12V" line before they envisioned these--these would have been much better in 12V. They could have done it in 12V as technically speaking there are Ridgid 12V tools/batteries, but they were not going to revive a tool line/system they basically abandoned some time ago now, just for ratchets.
Lol a 1/4 inch 18 volt 🤣, those are some ugly tools
who's gonna buy that crop made it for what ....
What the what?
@@pnorton75 that's what I'm asking what a fu.,' is that shi';
You never seen someone work on their own car? Mighty Car Mods have been using the Ryobi equivalent for years. Not every bolts needs, or has room for a mid torque impact.
Rigid is coming out with some serious stuff
Im gambling on them to keep it up because i just switched to them lol all there new stuff has been so good
It's up to Home Depot to make them put out top quality tools so Home Depot can sell them. since it's Home Depot's house brand. otherwise they're always going to be slightly below Milwaukee cuz that's another TTI brand. I think they need to add some more tools to their lineup since both Milwaukee Ryobi and DeWalt, there are three competitors all have a lot more
@@YouWillNeverBeAWoman really really good
@@darrenporsch But that's party how they keep the price down. Rigid isn't for people who need very specialized tools but the vast majority of tradesmen and DIY guys Rigid makes all the tools they need
@@joshdiehl8737 They keep the price down cuz rigid power tools or Home Depot's house brand or their private label brand You don't see lots of commercials and advertising for them unless you're in the store
Thank you for another great video brother. Honestly it does seem that Ridgid new line of tools is impressive. I watched their 1/2 impact perform very well also. If a tool does its advertised spec I am satisfied.
@ 24:42 when he said "if someone told me they grabbed a 1/4 inch to break away 100 foot lb, I'd tell them they were silly" had me falling out of of my chair 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
The reason why people seem to be getting different torque values as opposed to what the OEM states on the spec sheets is because the OEM test their product by attaching the anvil directly to a torque measuring tool. They do not use sockets nor extensions during the tests. This eliminates any variations (i. e. losses) these devices impose on the tested device. Furthermore, for those who believe the tool should be tested in a real world situation, should bear in mind, that every socket or extension from different manufacturers will exert different loses that the OEM of the tool can not account for.
The downside of the low profile directional switch is if you get trigger happy and run the back of the head up against something preventing you from switching direction.
1:30... and honestly a 2 Amp Hour last quite a while... I mean you can back out quite a few Fasteners on a 2amp hour battery I have the three eighths version of this and I use a two a h battery on it and I use it for quite a while..👍
These are good ratchets...imo...☝️
Well yeah a 2Ah 18V has 1.67x the Wh as a 12V (10.8V) 2Ah battery. So if you're comparing to say an M12 with a 2.0 on it, that has 22Wh while the 18V 2.0 has 36Wh, which is even more than an M12 3.0 in terms of energy. Of course the power consumption of the tool comes in to play as well, but shouldn't have any issues with runtime on these. The real downsides are the bulky battery to begin with; the body flex when using it manually; and the price being a little high at launch (expected).
i have all rigid and last month i bought the m12 3/8th extended reach lol NOW they come out with a rigid cordless ratchet! my luck lolol
M12 high speed is awesome. Small too
Look at it this way, the M12 is smaller, and cheaper than the Ridgid, at least for the bare tool.
@@geoffstrickler it was 440$ is with a 4.0ah and charger with warranty on both for 2 years.
Same
The battery kills this as a good unit. Just too damn bulky.
I'll be getting the Milwaukee's for a 3/8" ratchet.
@20:46 it might have done it if the ratchet wasn't in the wrong direction 😅
I appreciate this review. Really helps make my decision. Love my Ridgid tools (most of the time). Lol
My cars wheel nuts are torqued to 80 ft/lbs. I only use a 1/2" socket, it would never occurred to me to get a 1/4" or 3/8" socket they're not meant for that much torque.
I got nothing but ridgid everyone hates on me I would get Milwaukee but overpriced limited warranty hate red lol
Not surprised the 1/4 anvil broke at 100 Ftlb, the SAE specs for 1/4” is below 100 ftlb. I don’t remember the exact number, but it’s definitely below 95, might be as low as 65 (but I think that’s for universal joints).
"You'll notice that the quarter inch head is much smaller than the 3/8 or half inch" I sure hope so
It's not smaller in the Milwaukee ratchets. The 3/8 and 1/4 ratchets are literally the same size head, thickness, and length.....just a different anvil.
Not even sure the use case for a 1/4 in ratchet tbh. Great review
No extended ratchet yet? Ryobi introduced theirs some time ago..
Correction on the warranty. It’s a 3yr warranty, not 90 day. If you register within 90 days of purchase, you get the Lifetime Service Agreement.
Important to note that the LSA only applies if bought from certain places, like Home Depot.
Great review. These are way over priced right now. Especially when you consider rigid recommends you do not use them manually at all due to damage that may occur to the tool. Whereas, every other cordless ratchet gives you torque specs of manual and auto usage, expecting you to use them manually. Of course if you register it with the LSA, when you do use them manually and break them, you can get it replaced for free. Everything considered, still overpriced at the moment.
As we all know they will become much cheaper in promos and special buys as most Ridgid 18V tools do. That said, no extended reach (yet), the large battery, and the flex--these are mostly still deal killers. They should have made these 12V but since they abandoned their 12V line they screwed themselves here.
If I was buying 1, which 1 should I get?
Kinda too bulky to fit where you'd need it
If they made them 12v I’d love it
I like the way these look very good design but I do not like the short neck on the ratchets not in any brand I will consider buying them when they make them with an extended reach say about 6"- 8" and not until then now I am a big fan of Ridgid tools but I will not buy any of these until they make the neck longer
While waiting for the Ryobi HS ratchets to go on sale/discount (they still haven't), I ended up buying one of these instead (the 1/4" drive). Something is mentioned in this video which I think needs to be highlighted. The part about it being "very balanced with a 2Ah battery" is of significant importance. You don't really realise it until you go to use it but the weight distribution, trigger design, and overall feel of this tool is quite simply, awesome. It feels very "natural" to use, which is probably something lost in a sea of comparing specs and reviews and all that. For that alone, it's worth it to get one of these ratchets.
I have an M12 and a Hercules as well, and the Ridgid beats them both *hands down* in ergonomics. The front part over the drive motor *is* a little bulky but it's really not much larger than is the whole M12 tool--the Ridgid at least gets skinnier through the grip. The trigger design on the Ridgid is also way better than the dumb paddle thing on the M12 and Ryobis. If anyone is on the fence about buying the Ridgid v. another brand, I'd say definitely get the Ridgid. My only thought now is to get rid of the M12 and buy the Ridgid 3/8" too lol. (I probably won't do that but I'll end up using the 1/4" a lot now I think.)
I don't really like how fat the body is on the 1/4". Getting in tight spaces is the name of the game, but it looks like I'd basically need a deep socket on any fastener.
Awesome review very impressive from RIDGID 🤙🏻
As a mechanic, I would never use these to break or set torque. Real technicians just don't do that.
you repeat yourself too much
The battery just to big for me.
Very similar to the Dewalt design,my issue is the battery pack sticks out the side and reduces access.Ill stick with Milwaukee.
Although promised, NO new Ridgid batteries have the power of Octane 3Ah's yet. Would like to see this test re-done with those. As you may recall Ridgid's R86211 with a 21700-driven Octane 3Ah beat Milwaukee's hi-torque on TTC testing.
TTC proved that he 4ah max output had a better max torque score than the 3ah octane on both the new mid torque and high torque.
@@mattek519 @M-TeK-9 Do you have any idea where I can find that video? Do you have a date? The episode where the Ridgid (Octane) high torque beat Milwaukee with a 3Ah octane battery from July 16th of 2021.

Seriously all Ridgid tools have a 3-year warranty and then a lifetime service agreement when you register them within 90 days.
i gave you a thumbs down because you broke the ratchet just kidding i love your videos keep up the great work !
You keep talking about anvil size, are these impact ratchets?
None of them have the side battery contacts on the battery terminal.
@Shop Tool Reviews the 6ah and the 4ah are the EXACT same size my friend
What? I haven't seen the 6ah yet. You say they are same size as 4? I'm curious as to how they plan on replacing my 9ah octane when they go belly up.
@@pnorton75 probably with a 8ah. The 8ah will have 21700 cells unlike the 9ah
@@pnorton75 Yes the 6.0, the 5.0 and the 4.0 are all 10 cell batteries, so they should be *roughly* the same outer size. The 9.0 is another row, so 15 cells and so significantly larger. For a bad Octane 9.0 some years down the road, I'd imagine you'd get a MO 8.0 (which will be out later this year). Those have 21700 cells, which in theory *should* end up being the most powerful 18V Ridgid battery to date. The only other Ridgid batteries with 21700s were the Octane 3.0s.
@@rolandm9750 They will have to better than replacing a 9 with an 8. They better throw a 2 or 4 on top for good measure considering the new max output perform worse than octane in octane tools.
@@pnorton75 The 8.0 *is* better than the 9.0 though--more powerful cells in there. Unless you really need max runtime out of something, the 8.0 will be the better battery. That said, they will probably have Octane 9.0 refurbs available for some years so will be a while till they make any substitutions.
These wrenches look different than what Home Depot is showing Model #
R8721B on 6 30 23 and they are saying 250ft lbs. I was ready to purchase DeWalt 512B but it is only rated at 70 Ft lbs. Any thoughts.
The R8721B is a 'Right Angle Impact Wrench'. The Dewalt is a 'Cordless Ratchet'. These tools are for different purposes, so it depends on what you're looking to do.
8 minutes and 37 seconds before a nut was touched, feels just like my personal experiences in the bedroom
😂
Lmmfao. I’m dying over here man🤣🤣🤣
Don’t use too much torque, you might bust a nut.
Great review. Will you please review the new Spyder Impact bit sets?
That be awesome. Joe the Tool Guy here on RUclips just did a review video on them. Torture tested the shit out of em. Pretty good. Go check it out
@@IMPACT-NATION just watched the review. Definitely buying a set. Thanks again.
@@SGAOuTLaWz same here man👊
What’s the brand, make and range of the torque wrench you are using in this video?
👏👏👏👏 I watch Rainman Ray Repairs on RUclips. He uses the running method to breakaway nuts or he’ll use his strength to break loose nuts then let the ratchet do the rest. Sometimes he has to bring out a bigger tool. Thank you for doing these videos, on the 1/4” ratchet you showed what not to do. Watching your channel plus TTC, I’m making the right choices on my purchases. You stressed the importance of quickly registering Ridgid power tools for lifetime service agreement, I’ve heard horror stories about Ridgid doing everything that they can not to service the tool saying it’s your abuse of the tool. Keep’m coming. So far it looks like Milwaukee has the right battery location
Thanks for all the input, well taken. We agree, the Milwaukee ratchets seem to have the best form factor for these ratchets.
why are these ratchets electronically designed to cut off at a specified torque? That's what it seems like anyways with the blinking lights
I think they just program this in the electronics for a safety cutout, in order to make the tools last longer. I'm not sure of a better answer. Thanks for watching.
They look way to bulky and look awkward to use
great tools but 2 ah batteries kinda useless 4 ah be better.
It would be nice to see a test for the tightening tork ability of each.
I don’t think a regular 1/4” drive ratchet is breaking a 100 lb/ft torque but
Take your 1/4” drive ratchet and break the lugnuts free on your passenger car. They should be torqued at around 100 ft-lbs.
you can say play instead of slop
✌️🐝➕
You never checked the battery levels 🤔
I don’t think that anvil should have broke.
Ridgid needs a 12 volt line
Nice review. Thanks
Great review
Nice reviews tool

Excellent video, subbed.
Thanks for subbing
When doing these tests, can you test out the tightening capabilities of these wrenches also?
For example - A test showing these tightening 3 [or 5] bolts up to what torque do they max out to?
I view this type of tool as more useful for tightening than loosening.
Thanks for your testing regardless.
The rest of the world would disagree with you most people use a ratchet to take things off not tighten things up
@@boosted2.4_sky Yup, basically a nut runner.
@ Craig ^^^
What? The whole world would not disagree!
The whole world uses ratchets to tighten nuts and bolts up. Even a torque wrench is another type of ratchet. So this is just dumb and silly!
The Imperial unit for torque is POUND-FEET.
Your test stand really does not test that impact correctly there are test benches for this.Secondly when you tighten any nut and bolt you create friction which any heated nut bolt will break more easily.Lastly a tool like this needs to be tested in real world conditions.
I would love to take that 1/2 inch and put it up against my I.R on the trucks I work on.
These aren't impact wrenches.
Ridged will never be Milwaukee
They're actually proving to the better choice, in fact.
My 1/2" ridgid high torque begs to differ.
@@Jtwizzle begs to differ? So it is a Milwaukee then?
@@mattek519 😅😅😅😅😅
Tell my, what's the warranty/LSA agreement Millfucky offers? Oh yeah thats right, you like to pay for name brand sake. Be my guest.
The 1/2" is just a complete waste I'm definitely disappointed in Ridgid they finally ad a ratchet that's comparable to every other 18v
What's wrong with the 1/2" model?

Yea. No doubt.

@@mattek519 I could not have said it better my self. We really need to stop educating all these simpletons though. If they all switched to Ridgid, Ridgid will increase thier price or get rid of LSA. I'm just curious on how Ridgid is going to replace my 9 amp hour octane's when they go belly up.
