    Cliff Ronning... that's who he reminds me of. Or Theo Fleury. Little guys can play big as 1st liners, Cliffy was arguably the best player on his line with Geoff Courtnall and Trevor Linden, he was the playmaker who made them successful, not as popular as Theo around the NHL but just as integral to the Canucks in the 90s. Wayne Gretzky wasn't a big guy either. Cooley's in good company.

    • @canuck_gamer3359
      @canuck_gamer3359 2 года назад

      You make a very interesting point because do you happen to know when Cliff Ronning was drafted? How about Fleury? Despite the fact that both of them put up absolutely insane numbers in junior, Ronning was drafted in the 7th round and Fleury in the 8th (there are only 7 rounds now btw). So 165 guys were taking before Fleury and the vast majority of them didn't even play in the NHL. Same story with Ronning. It's a crap shoot...same thing every year. I'm a Habs fan and I think they should take Cooley because of his skating. That seems to be the way the game is being played and that's the kind of team we've had the past few years, speedy with puck pressure all over the ice. He might be a better fit in that system...but of course I'm only guessing lol.

    I got to be honest Shannon, to me this is the worst pick Arizona could make (as a Preds fans (bring back our blue and black jersey) with a soft spot for Arizona and Buffalo (who should go back to black and red).
    He isn’t a bad player, but there is at least four years to wait for a new arena and I think he would jump and quite frankly if they lost a lotto pick in exchange for a second I think it would cripple them.
    Kind of hope they take the winger Slafkovsky or Nemec or even Jiricek. Just someone that can’t potentially walk away and leave them high and dry. They do have McBain, Smith, and Hayton all walking in at center and Guenther as a sniper with Soderstrom as defenseman.
    This isn’t a knock on Cooley either, he’s fantastic. But given the circumstances I feel like there is a shot he is Adam Foxed

    There's no chance Montreal doesn't pick Wright

  • @Sultimate93
    @Sultimate93 2 года назад

    I feel like Cooley at 3rd seems like the most obvious place. Arizona should almost certainly be looking for a center, and he seems to be the 2nd best center available. Wright, Slafkovsky, and Cooley seems like the obvious top 3, with New Jersey passing on another Center with Hischier and Huges already there. Cooley seems to be rated closer to Nazar, Savoie, Gauthier, or Lambert than he is to Wright, so I don't see him being picked number 1. That's especially true seeing as Cooley won't be playing in the NHL in 2022.
    Only way I see Cooley going anywhere else is if Wright somehow drops to 3rd, but I seriously doubt that happens. Even if the Habs think Slafkovsky has a higher ceiling than Wright, I think they'd rather have a 2nd top tier center with Suzuki over a 2nd top tier winger alongside Caufield. If they do pass on Wright, I think it'd be because they're _very_ high on one of Nemec or Jiricek and want a true #1 Dman. That seems unlikely, but even if it happens I find it hard to believe Wright gets past 2nd overall as well. NJ is likely to pass on a center, but IIRC they've also said they're not opposed to shopping around their pick. Wright would fetch a high price, and I think they'd get more from trading the pick than they would from taking Slafkovsky.

  • @ll7868
    @ll7868 2 года назад

    I think Montreal takes Wright, best player available is a no-brainer, New Jersey might go with Defenceman Pavel Mintyukov and Cooley going to Arizona. Seattle will probably go with a local guy the fans are familiar with, D Kevin Korchinski of the Seattle Thunderbirds. Cutter Gauthier to the Flyer rounds out my Top 5 predictions.

    The Canadiens, of all teams, have shown a tendency over the years to pick American players. Just looking over the list, since 2000 they have taken US born player with their first pick 10 different times. It must be admitted, with very mixed results, the best of them being a guy who never even played for them (Ryan McDonagh). Cole Caulfield looks like he'll be a good pick, Max Pacioretty has had an excellent career, Chris Higgins, Galchenyuk and Komisarek were decent for a few years, and a couple of busts like David Fischer & Mike McCarron, who were late first round picks, so hit & miss by nature. I doubt they'll take Cooley, though. They should just go with the obvious guy in Wright.
