My only traffic offence is for the one week I visited Switzerland and drove 7km/h over after a tunnel in a rental car.. Cannot remember anymore how much, less than 100€ :P I did rear end a car in another country too, but there was no "offence", just 4400€ insurance claim
$450 for 95 in a 75 zone on I15 in Arizona. The tractor trailer rig that I was following along in convoy in the desert for 20 minutes at 95 mph in the fast last hit the brakes pulled over quickly to the middle lane. My radar detector chirpped as I hit the brakes. A few minutes later a young chipper Arizona patrolman passed the same tractor trailer (with Arizona plates) to pull me ( a California plated e550a) over and lecture me about committing a crime, an Az misdemeanor. ("what truck?" , he replied to my inquiry). I was gonna laugh but he is a policeman & he reminded me of my son, who also has drive and a flair for simplifying, so I let it go without dwelling on his contradictions. Was surprised the fine was small. In California, if they bothered, the fine would be $1500. C'est la vie.
Got caught doing 160kph on an empty 3 lane highway with an 80kph limit in Jordan. Jail time commuted to a £15 fine after much praising of King Abdullah. Phew!
I was driving a rental MB SL500 from Annecy to Frankfurt back in 2008. My wife and I were on our honeymoon and after having spent 11 days touring in the Loire valley we decided to go to the Autoshow. When we came back to Greece, there was a speeding fine of 210 euros waiting for us for going 20 km/h over the limit. A speed camera near Crissier caught us. Seems that fines over there have escalated badly during the past 12 years, Mario! Btw, worst thing so far was being fined 700 euros and losing my license for two months. I was caught drifting my E39 past midnight on the empty roads of Athens. Stupid as hell. I now drift during the day.
Thank you for explaining Fines versus Punishments. I assume that the Police will still get paid if not enough Fines are collected? I am really happy that you still love your beautiful country!
600.00 CHF (like 15 years ago) I think it was 91 km/h in 60 km/h zone on the highway. it was construction zone and they changed the speed limit from 80 to 60. I didn't notice the change. funny thing was that in front of me another car was driving the same speed but the mobile speed camera got only me!
Here in the Netherlands your 'violation' would cost you 340 euro...plus 9 euro for "administration fees"... So near 2000 euro is WILD! My biggest fine was 43 euro ... 8 km/h too fast with the truck... such thievery
I lived in the Italy, USA, and Brazil, and even though I got some small fines here and there, I never got a big one mainly because I have been using at least a radar detector (sometimes coupled to Waze and a laser jammer) since I was 18. A funny thing is that I used those E-Zpass for tolls and upon checking its bill I could calculate my average speed between tolls and one time I did 173km/h average in a strech where speed limit was 120km/h. Luckily this info is not shared with the highway police ;-). If I lived in Switzerland I would use a complete stealth, fitted system, such as a Stinger VIP with laser fibers and everything hidden to the naked eye.
Does it also affect your car insurance premium? Here in the UK it can increase your premiums for 5 or 6 years, as well as premiums for any other vehicles you are insured on (insurance is per car here, but for example I am added to my wife's and son's policies to be able to drive those cars.)
I think my biggest fine/fees/penalty ever was about $100. My worst speeding offenses were going 170 kph in a 120 zone in ... Switzerland (not caught obviously) and 186 in a 120 zone in The Netherlands. Both were in my 1969 Mercedes SL.
8 years ago I was stopped for speeding on the A3 just past Brugg. I was doing 9 over and I don't know which was more traumatizing....... dealing with a Swiss policeman that refused to speak or explain what was wrong or what was required in English despite me showing him an IDP and a driving license from the state of Texas or having to endure that ordeal with a full bladder. I guess it must have been too much paperwork as in the end they let me go. The irony?? It was in one of the slowest cars I've ever driven a rental Toyota Yaris Hybrid and I was definitely doing more than 9 over.
I once got caught traveling twice the speed limit. I had come up to a double set of traffic lights where the lights were never both green at the same time but for once they were. It being 1AM I seized the chance and before I knew it got up to 70mph in a 35mph. I was of course pulled over, but the officer appreciated my quick apologetic confession (and probably my sobriety) and mearly wrote a speeding ticket when he could have arrested me. The fine was 300usd which seemed low to me until I realized he had written down 55mph on the ticket. This not only reduced to ticket by quite a bit but was the fastest I could have gone without criminal charges. I've behaved myself ever since; I don't care to find out the chances of getting that generous an officer again.
I live in Norway and my highest fine was $180 for not having seatbelt on. Since i got driving licence in 2004 i had 3 fines total including the one above. Other 2 were $150 each for taking on mobile phone. No speeding tickets 😹
@@1991Moskito just out of curiosity I went googling and came across a few threads from Swiss radar users: www.rdforum.org/threads/89299/ www.rdforum.org/threads/35837/ www.rdforum.org/threads/90198/
The sale, import and even the transport within a vehicle of such a device are forbidden. Let alone the installation and use in a vehicle. It is classed as a crime and can be punished with a monetary punishment of up to 180 days of income (for comparison: I got 16 for my offense). Highly risky and not worth it for most of us here.
I 2008 was pulled over in Virginia, driving to Maryland from Georgia in a 2006 Subaru STI. The speed limit was 70 (a rare high limit in the state) and the hero cop wrote me a ticket for 81 (middle of the night, clear weather, open road). Anything over 80 there is considered reckless driving which is a felony misdemeanor ( similar to driving under the influence). Since I was not a VA resident I was able to pay a lawyer to go to court for me. I think the ticket was around $500 and the lawyer charged around $500. No points, just money. Now I go well out of my way to never drive through VA and if I do I plan my trip to not spend a single dollar in the state, stopping only to leave some pee, which is all that state government deserves. I'm glad you are back on the road, one of the most under-rated RUclipsrs out there.
No.1. Dont speed in switzerland 🇨🇭 No.2 all goverment rules are bullshit. Its not like $&@? A child. U r taking it way to serious No.3 cross border to autobhan. 240 kms.
Like it wasnt enough to get a fine and now I lost 8.4 minutes of my life to this guy. Let me tell you something, Switzerland's is way overrated. 1. the same nature is in Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain. Portugal etc... 2. Everywhere else everything is much easier and cheaper. 3. Anywhere else they don't do TUNNEL DOSING. for that only we should totally avoid Switzerland, imagine standing in a traffic jam for 50 minutes, 3 times, just to enter an empty tunnel? right. that's Switzerland, if you try to go to the south. like to the Italian border, you will have to pass the Gothard tunnel for example. well prepare to sleep in front of it for 2 hours, while the tunnel is just empty. why? cause Swiss thought so. and I am not talking about their racism yet. They sent me a traffic violation ticket, 2 years after the fact. like, WTF ? I dont even remember what I ate yesterday, how tf should I react to a fine from 2 years ago? I went to the location to check, because I am really careful, so basically, they have setup this scam at the border, when you leave Switzerland, they have like 4 speed markers. 80, 80, 80, then suddenly 40. most people, like, I just see, the 80, 80, 80, and think, ok the next is allso 80, then comes 40, I brake, but it's already to late. you get a fine for speeding above 20kmh over the limit. 600 euro ! or 4 days jail. so, please dont get fooled, by the name Swiss, there is literally nothing there, it's way overrated, they will overtax you in many many ways like speed ticket fines as example. you will pay much more for anything.
Well 6 points for drink and driving the very first day they install the legislation many years ago in Spain, spending tickets pruhhhhhhhhhhh not over 20 km of the limit is only 100 and something euros...so basically I don't give a s......t😄😄😄😄😄
What was your biggest punishment for a traffic offense?
I was going 90km/h in a 50km/h zone. Got a 125CHF fine for that. Eastern Europe is a different world when it comes to speeding ;-)
WOW! We don't have the death penalty in Switzerland, but for such an offence, they might consider an exception. 😅

Yeah, night time drifting - what were you thinking! 😄
160kph on a 90kph section of French motorway. I thought 750 euros was bad, but Swiss (and Scandinavian) fines are legendary.
Thank you for explaining Fines versus Punishments. I assume that the Police will still get paid if not enough Fines are collected? I am really happy that you still love your beautiful country!
Of course, the police is funded by the taxes.
Got to know a lot of new info from u, Swiss Car Guy!
Sorry to hear about the speeding ticket. And Love 💕 the Lexus LS 600hL :)
Keep posting videos 😊

The older saying is "don't get caught."
Mario you must be a banker, right? :) My worst traffic offense was driving through a red light - €250.
I wish! (Honestly, I wouldn't wish. The only good thing of working in banking is the money. Otherwise it's so boring).

I had to pay 780 francs or so for crossing a double dashed line when exiting the highway.

Are radar jammers illegal in Switzerland? That might be a worthy investment.
Illegal in most of Europe,
And if caught in Switzerland, they can take your car away

I think at some point they would just shred it. 😉

138 instead of 100. But it's the same thing. 🤷♂️
@@swisscarguy so it's only +13km/h over the maximum fine (260chf), so it's really expensive, mad.
