Um most batters stride out at least a little. That doesn't mean you lunge at the ball, but you want to stride out so that you have room to transfer your weight forward into the ball.
If I was a college coach, I would want him on my team. If he can handle academics and athletics, take challenging courses to get his 3.7, and hit and catch the way he does, he'll be an asset to any team as a student-athlete for real. The mechanics suggestions are true, but he has a good base for any coach in college to develop. If he can learn how to hit with wood, I see no reason why he can't make the pros.
Ilya Zhitomirskiy small, average mechanics for a high school player, doesn't look like a 1.9 pop to me but he's definitely accurate and if they get him on the gun at 88 like the stats say it does then he should end up at s decent school, kinda weird they didn't post his BA or anythingGot some work to do on his hitting. A lot of kids get taught to squish the bug when they're young like he does, but if you watch the bigs you'll see most guys driving forward with their hips and feet, as you're gonna get a lot more power. This is all just in regards to pro statement, you never know, but it isn't likely. I'm sure he'll get in somewhere and good luck to him
Liam Sullivan Are you kidding!!! He sucks!!! I am in little league too and I can do all of those things better. We do drafts in are league and I was number one catcher. I threw out 49 out of the 50 runners and got it there way faster than he did.
extremevids1469 ! Son, He is throwing on a high school field and you are throwing on a little league field. There is a big difference. Quit trying to act all hard.
Pretty solid player. I like it how he puts all he has into the ball when he throws it. Really good catcher blocks when in the dirt. And pretty good batter
xRexel says the one with a fucking fortnite pfp. and for one, in a recruiting video, he will always have to put all he has in to the ball. two, probably every catcher form middle school up knows how to block a ball in the dirt.
idkw hatthisisfor Says the one who stopped playing ball when he was 10 because the ball got too fast. You can never forget the fundamentals man. Remember that.
Very clean all the way around and great tools to work with here. As a coach this is the type of base I look for to further develop a player at the next level. There will always be those young baseball critics that will argue as to how to catch, throw and hit. It's either "he's not on the balls of his feet" to "he looks like his back foot is not balanced in his dab swing"... These are ALL things that will be developed at the next level.
I also love how they don’t cut each clip and only show the good ones, they have a bunch of 30 ish second clips of each attribute to show his consistency
Hi I’m Conrad head coach of UCLA I think your a pretty good player and we have room in are lineup for 9th string so basically if the 8 catchers get injured in front of you you’ll play
I like the high leg kick on the swing it's turning into the new thing but you want to be consistent with it sometimes you will raise it fast and then next time a little slower just get more consistent with it to have better timing and look great behind the plate good feet and arm a little thing though is you like to close your glove before you catch the ball then reopen it eliminate less movement
Not taking anything away from this catcher but I think it's funny he used a white bat bc usually a white bat makes your bat speed look better and his was honestly pretty good I'm glad I don't have to play him
His right hand is always out infront ( not a good thing ) its small things like that, that is the difference between D1 and other schools The hand should be behind you, even during practice, to replicate a game-like situation. And if you have your hand out during the game like that then please enjoy having broken fingers in higher tier play
How can i become a helper....? Like the guy receiving the throws and stuff... or i could help pick up balls...☺️ i also play baseball too and im about to start catching. I live in San Antonio Tx. Also loved the vid
I think this is good. Granted I don't play Baseball and my opinion is very uneducated but I would say that he could find a spot on a smaller college team. But, hey, what do I know? He could go to one of the big colleges. We will have to wait and see.
he is good but when the ball is bunted he NEEDS to go through the right batters box in order to stay slightly farther behind the runner to avoid interferance, he needs to cut down a little bit on the leg kick and he messed up while blocking/picking up the ball BECAUSE he needs to scoop up the ball w/ his mitt and hand to get the ball secured and ready to throw properly im 12 and i know this stuff
Don’t bring your leg up so far just take a jab step and rotate your hips for your power and keep your hands closer to your chest in your swing it keeps the sweat spot if the bat on line with the ball longer and you’ll have more power pushing the bat through than pulling
It it just me or when he bats does his leg kick and the way he finishes look very forced? Almost like someone told him they were important qualities and he is making sure he does them
I'd eliminate the leg kick. It's probably going to create some timing issues at a higher level. Just my opinion. Very sound defensively, gain some weight and you'll play anywhere in the country.
A few things, 1. Extremely good blocking ability but a catcher should never use his arms to get up after a block, it should be all legs. 2. Frames need some work I could tell you struggle on framing low pitches even tho none we’re thrown to you based on the stiff elbow and arm. 3. Hitting was good mechanically you were nice but watch the ball leave the bat it would increase your time out of the box.. you look good buddy
Only problem I see in this is that he looks down even after he hits the ball. I’m sure it’s different in games, but if it’s not, that is something he needs to fix.
Common mistake with a lot of catchers... they call inside. Just flash the glove so a runner doesn't know where to run and hopefully have the ball hit them and be safe
DarkSoldier lol guys. They showed this drill to show his technique for blocks in front and too the side. To show how he rounds the corners and if he's softening the ball well. It's extremely important. Albeit he has work to do on turning his corners
Sometimes I hate recruiting videos because they're only when the players are really trying. Like how do you know if the players are gonna work that hard or even try in a game or practice. They just don't make sense to me
Volbeat101 I think that part of the point for these is to gain attention not necessarily a scholarship. One of the boys on my high school team had a pretty successful video and the college that he ended up going to on scholarship didn't offer that scholarship because of the video, they saw him play on the video and then decided he was worth a look so at the next showcase he attended they paid specialized attention to him, and that's where he ended up with his scholarship.
He has the strongest dab I've seen yet.
He is now committed to Navarro College
I love how everyone is suddenly a coach in the comments and act as if he is gonna read them and care.
Great arm, quick feet, quick release. I got 1.90 for one and he was averaging around a 1.95 or just below 2. Solid player.
The sound of the ball hitting the mitt is he best sound in the world.
As catcher he has a lot of potential. Hitting could improve. Close stance a little and stride more!
i agree. for a young kid real good behind the plate but his hitting just looks a little wonky but he has some quick hand which is always good.
Cade Williamsen for catching he needs to keep his hand behind his glove when blocking otherwise he is great
He does not nessiscarily need to stride or close his stance some of the better players now tend to have an open stance with little to no stride
Cade Williamsen you don't stride out when your batter that messes up timing don't talk when you don't know your shit
Um most batters stride out at least a little. That doesn't mean you lunge at the ball, but you want to stride out so that you have room to transfer your weight forward into the ball.
If I was a college coach, I would want him on my team. he ended up at a juco, navarro college in his home state of texas
@@GITMmusic pop is definitely sub 2 and accurate but his receiving (at least as far as I can tell from the limited footage) and swing are subpar
This guy is amazing!!! I'm a starting catcher for my little league team and he is showing me tips on what to do
Liam Sullivan Are you kidding!!!
Liam Sullivan yah post a vid bout it den
extremevids1469 ! Oh my god your "so cool" you want a cookie jerk! U can't be nice ever
Brendon McPhail your probably a 40 year peto who likes to cyber bully
Man he's one of the best high school catchers I've seen fundamentally, bright future ahead of him
Expos Classics wtf?
Pretty solid player. I like it how he puts all he has into the ball when he throws it. Really good catcher blocks when in the dirt. And pretty good batter

James G me?
Great catcher has lots of potential.

damn, that kid has an awesome throwdown
William Rankin yeah
love the bat. I have been trying to find the old school mako but there wasn't one in my size :(
pulling the ball is great but show some opposite field hitting
Smart layout with the video. Showing different angles.
I also love how they don’t cut each clip and only show the good ones, they have a bunch of 30 ish second clips of each attribute to show his consistency
True that!
He has a lot of potential has a great arm I think in a few years this kid could make a name for himself in collage baseball out of ten 8
Hi I’m Conrad head coach of UCLA I think your a pretty good player and we have room in are lineup for 9th string so basically if the 8 catchers get injured in front of you you’ll play
Sure
Great job and thanks for tips I saw a lot that I have to work on 🏆
I'm 5 and I'm 7'5. I throw 257 MPH is that good?
CODKilla no you're not, I am 1 year old 10'11" and can throw 999 mph as a changeup. My fastball is 1,000,000 mph.
Lithium no because im 1 week old and my knuckleball is 2 mil and my fastball is 7 mil
No because my mom is due in 3 months and I have a 15 mil knuckleball and a 9 bil changeup and a 15 bil fastball
Jake Kramer I’m still in my dad’s testicle and I pitch a 900 mph knuckle ball
Alex 15 oh yeah well my dad is prepubescent so he doesn’t produce sperm yet and I throw a 53,000 million mph knuckleball
You know it's kind of funny how people are giving him tips when they aren't out there actually doing what he id
3:15 dab on them haters
Fishing is Life ok
He does it with every pitch
Dudes name really is fishing is life
Fishing is Life bruh he’s been dabbing on 2:53 all the way to the end
I like the high leg kick on the swing it's turning into the new thing but you want to be consistent with it sometimes you will raise it fast and then next time a little slower just get more consistent with it to have better timing and look great behind the plate good feet and arm a little thing though is you like to close your glove before you catch the ball then reopen it eliminate less movement
Thanks you helped me a lot for blocking bad throws my main position is back catcher too
Wow! this guy has to be recruited by a good college... he's a great catcher 👍
ONLYY thing hit it opposite field, I even struggle with it but it could use some work
Not taking anything away from this catcher but I think it's funny he used a white bat bc usually a white bat makes your bat speed look better and his was honestly pretty good I'm glad I don't have to play him
Nick Hornsby how can you tell good bat speed by a video lol
I'm just saying white bats usually make your bat speed look faster he's still an amazing catcher and hitter
Nick Hornsby hater
His right hand is always out infront ( not a good thing ) its small things like that, that is the difference between D1 and other schools
The hand should be behind you, even during practice, to replicate a game-like situation. And if you have your hand out during the game like that then please enjoy having broken fingers in higher tier play
When you are hitting its important that you stride with your front foot. (step it forward as you are swinging)
How can i become a helper....? Like the guy receiving the throws and stuff... or i could help pick up balls...☺️ i also play baseball too and im about to start catching. I live in San Antonio Tx. Also loved the vid
That was pretty good and I am a baseball scout
Wahid Jibril ur not a scout u Jake Pauler I saw those subscriptions
Lmao u ain't a baseball scout you morgx subscriber stop trying to trick ppl lol
I think this is good. Granted I don't play Baseball and my opinion is very uneducated but I would say that he could find a spot on a smaller college team. But, hey, what do I know? He could go to one of the big colleges. We will have to wait and see.

When ur doing ur load u shouldn't have ur back leg vertical because that can make the swing more slow so try to keep it not vertical while ur loading
Where did he end up going to for collage? Is it D1?
K.A1 navarro college, its a juco I think
Pretty good for a Catcher, looks kinda like my cousin and me playing, but we play a bit more tougher
Don’t bring your leg up so far just take a jab step and rotate your hips for your power and keep your hands closer to your chest in your swing it keeps the sweat spot if the bat on line with the ball longer and you’ll have more power pushing the bat through than pulling
I'm no scout but I'd sign ya.
i got sum good stuff from him ....the blocking part
I feel like he is to athletic for a catcher when he has the athleticism of a middle infielder
You have to be very athletic and agile to be a catcher
Good but he drops his back shoulder hitting sometimes
I saw that you can lose some power from that
It's a big problem if you're trying to be a power hitter like a lot players
Not trying to criticiz but try catching without the knee savers, that will help, but otherwise I'm interested to get some tips from you
Quick hands and body movement behind the plate. Try not to over rotate your back foot while batting and longer stride. Nice hand separation tho
Watch the pros even they rotate their foot and now most people don't have long strides just use a more open stance
It it just me or when he bats does his leg kick and the way he finishes look very forced? Almost like someone told him they were important qualities and he is making sure he does them
The way he finishes is a drill just trying to focus on keeping the head still and not letting it pull off
Guys this was 2 years ago
its showcase form. at showcases most players exaggerate their form for scouts. not a bad thing either
Great defensive catcher. Just has to work on framing a little bit.
If i were a scout id probly take you off of this but need more game highlights
Why tell inside on a bunt...if it's fair then when is it NOT gone be inside! Should inside/outside ONLY be on dropped 3rd stricks?
He wraps his bat a little to get more power lift the back foot a little bit to get the hips through even more
I'd eliminate the leg kick. It's probably going to create some timing issues at a higher level. Just my opinion. Very sound defensively, gain some weight and you'll play anywhere in the country.
A very nice video!
He’s rly good but he doesn’t frame the ball whnw he catches it??
I think he frames it, but it's very subtle
Why isn’t whistle making a video of him
He has a lot of potential but the high leg kick while batting could be worked on a bit
Pretty good, but when you were hitting you were pulling some outside pitches that should be hit right-center gap
I like how you think your a coach or some shit u prolly play right feild stfu
Ur going to be a big leaguer I feel it
This dude looks like he has a good future.
He ended up going to Navarro Community College
Justin Rausch ouch
I agree with all around tv
Do you want a scholarship to the University of Texas Jonathan?
A few things, 1. Extremely good blocking ability but a catcher should never use his arms to get up after a block, it should be all legs. 2. Frames need some work I could tell you struggle on framing low pitches even tho none we’re thrown to you based on the stiff elbow and arm. 3. Hitting was good mechanically you were nice but watch the ball leave the bat it would increase your time out of the box.. you look good buddy
Solid player, great video, love his footwork, but when hitting he’s need to shorten that stride considering he’s only 5’10
Where do you get that all star glove
Ool when he hits he dabs
Mikee Mendoza IKR
Mikee Mendoza I saw that too
Mikee Mendoza yea😂
Mikee Mendoza I
Datdab
That high leg kick will kill your timing with a really good oitcher
Garrett Geidel No it won't, quit trying to critique if you don't know anything.
Brendon McPhail go home u hater
Tell that to Josh Donaldson, Jose Bautista, Mike Trout, Miguel Cabrera, Bryce Harper, Buster Posey, Dustin Pedroia...
StealthNinjaPie why don't you look up those swings and tell me how that is high
Garrett Geidel no it won't you probably watched 1game of baseball and you're now an expert you think
He’s a smooth catcher but can be more smooth at hitting, other than that he’s a pretty good player
Where is he playing now
When you swing make sure you don't dip and you don't need a big step when you hit I was a power hitter I would know
There a little kid throwing to you?
you have to be a good blocker with that backstop tho.
Caleb Galdston dude this was 2 yrs ago he already graduated and i don’t think he gaf
Only problem I see in this is that he looks down even after he hits the ball. I’m sure it’s different in games, but if it’s not, that is something he needs to fix.
Great job
the leg kick needs to go but other than that he shows a lot of potential to be a great baseball player
wowowowow i go to midlothian and i see that he is at the red oak baseball field and i also play catcher
Can we get an update!
No game highlights?
He probably picked the best hits and throw downs to put in the vid
That’s usually what you do in these types of videos lmao
Common mistake with a lot of catchers... they call inside. Just flash the glove so a runner doesn't know where to run and hopefully have the ball hit them and be safe
Very quick release on throw down. Lose the knee savers and you're D1 bound.
What catchers gear is that
nice move hit and dab
Ruben Trejo same
LoL
needs to stay balanced when he is hitting otherwise he is amazing
Hitters are not always going to balanced after hitting the ball
I wanna be a catcher like him
Everyone try to pause at 3:11
How old is he
Is Jonathan committed? What college is he heading to?
Wonderful catching but his hitting could use some work
Do you want a offer to UF
I am a scout giving you a scholarship to the university of poop
Tigers Film that was so funny
How are you guys in 2018
shark shooter that's his class
Why is he almost sitting when he is just catching but on the blocks he is up more
Roger Gunshot well that drill still shows nothing since he knows it will be in the dirt, but in a game you won't know where the ball will be
It shows form but who cares about form if you don't have the reaction time to block in a game
DarkSoldier lol guys. They showed this drill to show his technique for blocks in front and too the side. To show how he rounds the corners and if he's softening the ball well. It's extremely important. Albeit he has work to do on turning his corners
Was he dabbing wile batting
You have a complete different stance when you are blocking the balls you need to practice it your regular stance
This is the coach from the brewers we like what we see be ready for the draft
Blake Kolb lol
Liar
To an extent, say your actually good at hitting and it won’t hurt your timing
Dawg this kid is hella good
Dabbing when your hitting I see you
I thank he is good
Sometimes I hate recruiting videos because they're only when the players are really trying. Like how do you know if the players are gonna work that hard or even try in a game or practice. They just don't make sense to me
Most of the people who make these videos have the dedication and passion and want to make it far with the game! He is a great defensive catcher!
He was dabbing when he hit 😂😂😂
Hope you make it bro😁😁😁😁
