    Very helpful video. Thanks! One think that could have been done differently is to check to see if the head mating surface got warped with a flat bar and feeler gauges. Anyways, you did really well and again very helpful. I just picked up a 2008 Prius yesterday with a blown head gasket.

    Just finished mine with this as a big help. I wonder if at least part of the reason why your piston blew after this job was that the exhaust valve was clogged because just a couple of my exhaust valves were almost clogged and a lot on one of them with the head gasket sealer and I even used the gentle steel seal white powder stuff and it nearly clogged right there, it took hours to clean gently and I would of replaced the exhaust valves entirely if I knew. I nearly skipped that step too at 10:35 but I wanted to maximize valve compression so I caught that required step needed when I was cleaning it. Best of luck.

    At 1:04 you show 9mm but my manual and your screen shot at 27:07 show it's 8mm triple square driver required for the head bolts. Am I supposed to think 9mm will fit as well. Also the paint dot on the head bolts after torquing it down and turning the double 90 degrees afterwards is in the manual so I'm curious if that was done off camera because if it's torqued already what's the reason for that it's my first time. This video is one of kind and useful. Amazing thanks.

    I used a bottle of Steel Seal to fix my head gasket, drained the coolant, removed the thermostat, flushed the cooling system really good, Then use a radiator cleaner to clean the cooling system , Make sure to flush out all the cleaner 100%, When engine is 100% cold add steel seal with distilled water, turn heater on high & let idle for 30 mins with the radiator cap off........Let it cool for 1 hour the let idle again for 30 mins with the radiator cap on...........next morning let it idle for another 30 mins then removed all water from the system to let the steel seal cure for 24 hours, Replace the thermostat, fill with coolant and your good to go. Mine has been running perfect for 70k miles now as i use the car for uber & lyft, Only cost me about $120 total.

    I wish you would have showed the timing removal segment. I'm doing this job now and I'm unclear on how I should do it. I'm ready to remove the timing cover but my cams both line up with the lobes facing upward like in your video. I rotated the crank several times clockwise and only one will point upward at a time.

      @Kazelas Arcade, Welcome to MY2DAYLIFE! I apologize for that 😔 When I was performing this job it was really hard for me to record it, at the time i didn't have a helper, what i did was remove the timing cover then i put the harmonic balancer bolt back on to rotate the crank and check my timing marks its easy because the timing chain has 3 orange link marks that helps you with (TDC ) I'm sorry for the late response. Best of luck! 👍

    I thought the 2nd gen Prius' were tanks when it came to the head gaskets?
    What did you do to blow it?
    Also, when it blew, how did you ultimately know BEFORE you got it diagnosed? Was there smoke coming out of the tail pipe?

      @@my2daylife932 Is there any concern with using to much gasket maker on the head cam area or timing chain cover. Ive seen people over do oil pan gaskets and the extra sealant gets into the oil and can block crank and cam journals. I have seen a s2000 engine failure from this. it seems in the howto everyone put generous amounts of sealant. also you put it on wet or let it dry then put them together. I just did the rear tran secondary on a s2000 and it was with honda bond. they recommended the lightest coat. just a skim. worked fine for that.

    • @my2daylife932
      @my2daylife932  3 года назад +1

      @Tim Z, I understand your concern. Use Toyota (FIPG) Packing sealant, Its like $20-30 bucks. The first time i did it i used a little extra on everything and its been about 6 months since I did this job on the 2010 prius. So far i haven't had any issues. I assembled everything wet then waited till the next day to add oil and coolant. Just to make sure it's dry. If you feel uncomfortable with adding the sealant just go with your best judgment. You could also try to ask Toyota parts department about the sealant. The more information we get the better it is. Best of luck on your project Tim👍

    Very helpful. I followed this and replaced the head gasket for my 2008 Prius, after starting the engine, I got P3191 code, the engine cranks for8 seconds, then stops. I checked the hoses, all connected. There is also smoke from the intake manifold. Cleaned MAF doesn’t help, Any suggestions? Thanks!

I also experienced something similar when I did the engine swap and the codes that I got after the car started for a few seconds was P3190, P3191 which they are related to each other. It indicates a problem with the throttle body, so come to find out my problem was actually two connectors plugged in wrong. Basically, white should go to white, and black go to black. I messed up the two connectors between the engine and the generator, 5:15 in your Engine Swap Part 2 video. I am going to correct it tomorrow, cannot wait to see it start running again!

      @@my2daylife932 Hi, I want to update my case with you. The P3191 is actually due to wrong timing and the car revs up again after correcting it. The P0A80 error goes away too after the battery is charged.
      However, I am getting a misfire error again, currently on cylinder 2&3. Engine rattles when idling at around 1000 RPM, but becomes very smooth after pressing the accelerating panel to ramp up the speed. I am going to do a compression test later. Wonder if I am getting a bent con-rod due to previous coolant leakage, or I may have damaged the valves when I cranked the engine with the wrong timing.
      Seems like there is no end 😂😂😂

Car is running fine after that. Best of luck! 👍

  • @gumer85
    @gumer85 3 года назад +2

    I have a problem with my 05 Prius they told me it was a head gasket but on my Prius coolant is not the issue it’s oil that accumúlate on the spark plug #1 and the code says miss firing on the spark plug and the car shakes a lot when it’s cold

    • @my2daylife932
      @my2daylife932  3 года назад +1

      @gumer85, Thats sounds like a head gasket problem to me, but if you want to try something else just change the spark plugs and coil boots on the valve cover. If its still gives you problems then you definitely need to get the head gasket replaced. Best of luck 👍
