best bird hunting on RUclips and I´ve seen em all
Wow, thank you!
I'd have to agree...GREAT vid
Upland Knight thanks again! If you’d like to see more there is a part 2. Cheers!
@@ericforrester1 oh I'm gonna watch a few. Leave Monday for Sakatchewan. Meet my trainer and pup and have some fun. Be safe and God bless
You can’t even come close to these videos
I can’t believe I found a video I haven’t seen yet! What a surprise this morning! Love your videos.
Thanks Taylor!
I would've done the same thing with the pheasant. Hate to see them go to waste. Once when I was a kid, my Dad and I flushed some pheasants, I watched a hen fly into a power line and break its neck. I went over and grabbed it.
Great trip, Eric. It was a long drive from Fl, but my GWP and I made it. It was 19 degrees morning of 6 Sept, 29 on the 7th. Found lots of sharpies, few huns.
Yeah we saw everything from 94 degrees to 20 degrees with snow and ice. Glad you had a good time though.
Just stumbled upon your channel. I’m hopefully going to ND and Montana bird hunting with a buddy of mine who lives up that way. Great content. Headed to next video or newer videos. Great shooting!!! Thanks for sharing.
One of my favorite parts of fall is the new EF vids! You should have a tv show. Be a dam sight better than the other upland shows on.
Very kind of you, thank you! I’m glad you enjoy them. Hopefully I’ll have some more good stuff this season.
Very cool, greetings from Indonesia all my brothers
this is an awesome video. thanks for sharing. I'll meet you in Montana in 2021.
Oh I can't even begin about the roadside huns that seem to evade me and my dog every time lol. seems like it would be easy wouldn't it lol.
Great to see you again this fall Eric. Love your vids! We were in ND last week-, we did really well on both sharps and huns. A lot of birds this year! Keep up the good work!
Thank you! Glad to hear you trip went well. Sounds like it’s going to be a great season!
Great video. Love the positive puppy training. When the unfortunate happens like with rooster in your video, I have called the warden. That way there's no surprises if they stop you.
Agreed. Thanks!
You are a hell of a shot. I am going to Montana for the first time next week and this has me pumped
You should be! 👍
@@ericforrester1 we are going to be in region six Richland county. Have you been over that way? Any concern with the wildfires or dryness?
That was a sweet tripple! Well done, nice dog work. Love watching the pups figure it out
Thanks, much appreciated!
I have been hunting ND for 30 years. The sharpies seem to be more widespread in good numbers.
Glad to see you post! I'm have three weeks in Montana planned this fall, can't wait! If you're interested in joining, let me know! I run GWP and Britts!
Awesome, good luck to you! I’m going to hit some other states this season. But from what I saw, you should have a good time! GWP’s and Britts...two breeds that flat out get it done!
Great shooting man. That triple was great.
Great Video!! Headed to Montana for the 1st time the last week of Oct. then over to North Dakota the next week!! Looks like a great hatch this year!! Looking forward to part 2
Thanks! I’d say you are in for a good time, have fun!
Love the dog work! Great video. Greetings from Europe
Thank you!
The white in your wirehairs looks great!
Thanks!
Hi Eric nice to see you again
Thanks! I’m glad to be back in the field!
Nice! I was in North Dakota last week and did very well.
Awesome! I’ve heard a lot of good reports this year.
You make some really cool videos and I love this channel.
Thanks Cole, much appreciated! 👊
Hi Mr.Forrester I was wondering if you would be able to do a vest dump video to show what your carry on your hunts and what medical gear you have for the dogs if they run into anything from cactus and porcupines to a snake bite. It would be very much appreciated I’m really getting into going out west with my own dogs and I hope to get away from pheasant and chase birds like Chukar, Huns sharptails and whatever else I’d run into!
Honestly, what I have in my vest wouldn’t make much of a video!😁 I keep it pretty simple. Leatherman for porkies, cactus, snares, and general survival. Simple first aid to stop bleeding and what not. Extra food and water. When I go more backcountry, I add a few more survival items.
@@ericforrester1 ok thank you for helping me put my mind at ease just thought I didn’t carry enough but that’s about what I run for the few trips I go on.
My vet gave me a tip - Gold Bond foot powder will work great to stop bleeding on a bigger wound. Leatherman for sure in case of porcupine. Really sharp fine scissors for the Brittany, their coats are a magnet for every possible burr. Little bit of spray mild antiseptic. Little bit of eye drops.
Great work man, really enjoyed it. I hope to hit the prairies next season. Do you have to worry about where you camp or is all BLM open to camping?
Thanks! Basically all BLM land is open to camping 300’ from any trail. Check the regs where you go but that is the general rule.
I've been waiting for this!
Me too!!!!
More awesome vids Eric!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you! 👊
This video is worthless without gps coords for those birds :) Looks like the dogs (young and old) got into their fair share of game! Look fwd to Part 2
😆 I’ll be sure to put the coordinates in the next one! 😆
Fantastic as always.
Thank you!
Great video Im planing a tripe out ther this yr .
Great video! What are these bushes called they seem to be hanging in a lot?
Thanks! Often I find them in chokecherries
I was thinking about heading to Montana Labor Day weekend, what ia the rattlesnake situation? Your vids are great, my Britt and I watch them every Sunday.
They are definitely around but it depends largely on where in the state you are in. Ive never had an encounter in September
Enjoyed this.
Thanks!
I may give montana and north dakota a try this year
Go for it! 🤘You might check out the rainfall maps though.
Fun videos! What GoPro, or other, are you using? Great quality!
GoPro hero 8
Another great video. I shot my first sharptail in SD this year but the habitat was completely different. No shrubs there. Were those shrubs buffaloberry?
When I was there, the birds were spending a lot of time in chokecherry, using them for food and shade.
Nice job Eric!!
Thanks Marty!
Eric could you please tell me where did you get those dog Crates..thank you
I made them myself 👍
@@ericforrester1 ok thanks
Eric I love watching your videos Thanks! Do you usually sleep in your truck on your hunting trips?
Yes. I set my truck up to camp in this year and I love it! It’s the ultimate in flexibility and convenience. Also cheap!🤑
@@ericforrester1 Great idea, I didn't even think about it until watching your last video!
Great trip!
Thanks!
Makes me really want to bird hunt Montana even more. Are all the properties you hunting block manangement?
Block management, state, and BLM
Nice video, For the first time this year I killed some Huns, Sharpies and Sage grouse. Good year so far. What model GoPro do you have and are you shooting in 4K? Thanks
Glad to hear your having a good year! I have a 8 Black and I just started using 4K. Looks good but is a memory eater and can make editing and sharing harder.
Great hunt
Eric, what is your camera setup? Love watching your videos
Thanks! Just a GoPro on a head strap.
Are all these places you hunt public? I live in Southern California, just set up a 2 day quail hunt here with a guy who guides in Montana. He said it would cost me 5 grand for 4 days of chasing Huns and sharpies!? What the hell? Lol. Do they want my 1st born as well? I’ve hunted pheasant and quail in Kansas for 20 yrs , chucks and quail in California. Never with costs like that?!?!
Damn, maybe I should become a guide! 😁Yes they are all public.
Did you hunt any Waterfowl Reproduction Lands with the Nontoxic shot?
Man I see your truck in the backyard. Are you walking very far into any of these? Or checking the area then moving on to the next spot?
Love it...Great hunt!
Thank you!
Very nice video! Was that all public land?
Thanks! Yes all public and block management.
Where in Montana are you, and were you there in September
Out of all the places you hunt and types of upland birds. What’s your favorite state and type of bird? I’ve only hunted wild bobwhites and wild pheasant. Chukars were released not wild. I never shot a prairie chicken but attempted some long shots.
I guess I’m asking what’s your favorite upland bird experience? Most exciting.
Its hard to beat the thrill I get from Chukar hunting in places like Hells Canyon. Both me and the dogs have to be on our game and when we both perform well, it is a awesome feeling.
This year is a whole different ball game. Last year was epic...this years drought really messed up the bird populations on our prairies.
How bad?
@@toddvanvooren5440 on Canadian prairies, real bad.
Sorry to hear it. I want to get up there one of these days.
@@ericforrester1 birds will bounce back.....you let me know when you wanna come up Eric.
Will do, thanks!
it looks like you had a great start on the trip!!! theres nothing better then pups first wild birds.. hopefully i get to go to Michigan next month & maybe Kansas in November!! keep sharing the great footage thanks
Thanks! Good luck this season!
What type of sunglasses are you wearing? Red for shooting?
Oakley’s
What part of Montana is this.I hunted near havre before and terrain was rough?
J'aime beaucoup tes vidéos 👍🌹🇩🇿
Never posted on a video in my life, however yours are great first of all, and I just turned 42 yesterday and hunt approx 60 days a year. I have a degree in journalism and am trying to get a blog/a few videos of hunts and some cool mounts....mainly as a hobby. Lost my last Gordon 9 mos months ago and was just a wreck. However i bought a finished English setter (hes unreal but a wild man, he just turned 4) ....... sorry, rambling, 2 questions brother, 1st is there a certain gopro and do cock it say to the left a little or just straight and your videos turn out that well? 2nd you're shooting High brass 7 1/2s with what choke, and do you shoot 7 1/2s all year? Im assuming not for ohez...like you i shoot 2 3/4 just out of a double pretty much for everything except roosters, for those from the opener until the last day i use 3" 4s, every once in awhile I'll have feathers falling for an hour. Lol.... but usually I have less runners especially w the 2os I shoot. Sage grouse this year we're only allowed 2 and 2 days and i shoot im/cyl 1st in the bottom and im/mod up top and i put 20ish BBs in him.... ive hunted blues, chuckar, mountain sharptail all in CO but am leaving to hunt my chicken spot this weekend in Nebraska and really want to be set up w a gopro before I leave tomorrow night...and if you or anyone out there ever want an upland bird mounted lmk! I say it straight out there's taxis as good at birds but idk if they're any better out there? Also big game and predators but I'm terrible at cats and fish .... strutting grouse to me are the coolest mounts there are! If you see this lmk the model good sir and your choke selection? As the burds get wilder and coveyed my dog holds like a statue but they jump early and im usually at mod and full by then w 3" 6s or 5s, plus phez are in.... i know you get tons of offers but if you find yourself in western Nebraska lmk I have 50k all to myself that has all 4 birds. 2 years ago I had 3 points in 15 minutes and it went rooster, cock chicken and a hen sharpie. Look at that pic every day and just bc i went to a shelter belt i knew held quai,l burned up like 15 shells until i got dropped one but the "slam" doesn't mean s**t to me as there's spots I hunt that have 5-6 birds but I mounted them and it helps Nebraska out wo bothering me, hell I havent driven the whole place and have hunted it 15 years. .....lmk if you get a wild hair!? Cheers
90% of the time I shoot skeet with 7.5 for prairie birds and quail. For chukar and phez I’ll often switch to imp cylinder and 6’s. That said, I’m no expert about this stuff and I don’t pay as much attention to it as I should.
I am invited to come hunt in Montana from NC in Sept and was told we would be walking 10 to 12 miles a day for 5 days. Do you walk that much? I can't imagine that the dogs can run that long. I am traning up to 2.5 miles a day carrying a 7.5 dumb bell. working longer hikes as I progress.
I don’t normally walk that much when the hunting is good...only when birds are scarce.
I see. I don't se a lot of GWPs with that much white typically.
It’s very common in certain lines. Usually with a field trial background.
In Germany, these dogs would be "extracted" from the breeding pool. Both the AKC and the UKC do not subscribe to a white and GWP. "Field trial" GWPs are not a distinct breed. They either are GWPs or...
Admittedly, I don't know how that washes with NSTRA. Then again, NSTRA is not a field trial.
I like to go to st least 1 new location a year grand slam in se idaho is option too but had fire lastvyear
What camera are you using in these videos?
GoPro 7 or 8
Are you on publicland or private?
Public
What kind of shot are you using? Going to Kansas in November!

@@ericforrester1 What choke were you using?

Heading to Montana here in 2021?
The hat, where did you get it?
I had it made.
Just ordered a 2022 dodge ram 3500 ho cummins to oul my rv
Is that public or private land?
Public

What size shells do you use?
7.5
Did you say they were GWPs?
Yes. But Tubbs is slick coated so he looks like a shorthair.
Hey where did you get your hate you were wearing
If you mean the gray and orange one, I had it made.
@@ericforrester1 you should sell some I’d buy !
If don't mind what part of Montana?
Central and eastern.
Are those germs in shorthairs only or also wired hairs/drahthaars
They are all Wirehairs. Tubbs is slick coated.
Hi dear, Thanks
Why you are alone?
like me
i don't know a ton about pointing dogs but it seems that when your dogs are locked up on point, the birds are a lot further from the dog than they should be. Almost as if the birds that flush, are not the birds your dog locks up on
Most of the time the birds that flush are the ones they are pointing. There are times however, when the birds may be spread out and the first birds that flush are not the ones they were pointing. There are lots of variables; scent conditions, running birds, wind, and about a million more! 😁
