We NEED to talk about SCAM in Timeless!

  • with the addition of the Evoke Elementals on MTGA you're gonna have to accept the fact that scam is about to become an integral part of the Timeless experience. In this video I'll try my best to break down what this means for the format in terms of overall meta game changes, different scam builds, and how to play against scam. I'm obviously not gonna be able to accurately predict everything that's gonna happen when MH3 drops, since we're getting a lot of new stuff that could have all sorts of implications on the format. But I'm pretty confident that the Evoke Elementals are gonna be among the most impactful additions to Timeless, so I decided to go from there.

    Timeless is quite different from both Modern and Legacy because in timeless we have good sources of card advantage.
    We don’t really know how cards like treasure cruise impact the scam meta, but we know what beanstalk does and we can draw parallels. With access to treasure cruise Darcy decks could possibly mimic the amount of card advantage generated by beans, and their interaction is very relevant.
    What scares me the most is scam decks with Necro in them. Solitude, Necro and Grief, seems very good 😅

    • @ceaselessmtg
      @ceaselessmtg  2 месяца назад +1

      True, it might be the case that access to potent card advantage cards like Treasure Cruise could out a damper on scam decks. Although, like I mentioned, it's the top deck in Legacy at the moment, which is a format with a lot of degenerate stuff going around.

      @ceaselessmtg  2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks a lot, much appreciated and glad you enjoyed the video! You might be correct about the scam vs rhinos match up. I'm not really an expert in that format. I can see how you're actually in an okay spot when you can always just topdeck a single card that more or less wins you the game. That said, I still think that scam is gonna have a favorable match up against omnitell, as that deck typically needs multiple spells in their hand to actually do something with Omniscience.

    This does legit scare me. I don’t mind playing against RB decks as I’ve learned to be content that nearly every match is a black deck. But the fact they didn’t bring a ton of support to existsing decks besides RB and UB this scares me. I am PRAYING E-tron can go over the top because ramp decks tend to be great against midrange and the if E-tron is good then that means tempo control will be good and then if those archetypes are all at the top then this opens the doors for brews. Scam decks prey on brews and control. We need another timeless anthology asap. Too late for hammertime since it barely sees play in modern as it is. We need the better cascade spells and scion if draco. We overall need a ton of cards to offset the insane power upgrade Black midrange decks just got. They were already omnipresent and now it’s gona get worse.

      @@ceaselessmtg there’s a ton of cards. Shardless agent violent outburst. Bounce lands amulet and valakut. Actual tron lands. Urza saga. Price of progress would be good and it would bring burn back but I can understand if that’s too powerful. Pyroblast. Blue elemental blast. They should print a black elemental blast lol. The initiative cards would be good but I’m not sure I want to see the mox’s just yet. There’s a bunch more that can’t think of right now but basically looking to see other archetypes get support. I do love that you pointed out we will have kore support for omnath beans, which will be another archetype that is strong against scam.

    I think there’s real room for 4 Flare of Denial in a UB scam deck with both tamiyo and psychic frog as powerful cheap blue creatures, as well as potentially sneaky snacker as a creature that sacs to both flares, pitches to grief and subtlety, discards to psychic frog cleanly, and is easily recursive in the late game in multiples to close out.
