Otis I'll be doing some cool music stuff up here in Western MA in about 2 years. You'll have to come join. I'll be in touch. By the way we do t know each other yet😂
Thank you. The one thing I miss about the pandemic times is Todd's Purple Building Live videos every Sunday morning. It was an anticipated ritual every week.
Been a huge Todd fan for a few decades, and it always makes me smile when I see you upload a video of him. I could have listened to another 45 minutes of you guys chatting.
Always exciting when Todd Snider is in the house! I was lucky enough to catch yall in Grand Rapids Michigan a couple years back and it was a great show! ☮️❤️🅰️
Ha! 50 degrees outside and it's snowing in East Nashville. Very, very funny. I hope there's more to come of you and Todd in the coming days and weeks. He's a great talker and I could listen to him all day. Thanks Otis!

Morning Otis, was driving from San Francisco to Healdsburg where my wife's family has had a cabin on a gravel road outside of town for over 50 years to work on a 100-year-old toilet yesterday. It's about 3 acres with a creek and a cave surrounded by redwoods, a little slice of heaven! They have a radio station there called The Krush (Wine Country) I listen as soon as I can pick it up out of the city, and as long as I can get it going back to the city. They play a great mix of music. On the way up they played Slim Chance Is Still a Chance, and on the way back they played Hey Hey. Had never heard either of them before, and had to check them out further when I got home. Thanks again to the DJs of the world to turn me on to some more great music! And here you are talking with Todd this morning, oh how the Universe works! And damn this rabbit hole is deep! They say there is a chance of local snow this weekend?! Have a great weekend and keep spreading the word!
I have fond memories of pirate radio in the S.F. Bay Area and other ways that kept music more open to the people. As for the weather from Texas record fires still far from being contained and the amount of snow now falling in the Sierras we all better start becoming more aware of climate change and how we should proceed.
@@artemisXsidecrossWas just rolling up the coast today heading back to SF from Santa Cruz and still saw all the scorched trees on the east side of HWY 1 from the CZU Lightning Complex fire in Aug. 2021. The same fires that took out many historic buildings and old growth redwoods in Big Basin State Park, Californias first state park. Sure, some of it will come back in time, but not if we alter the environment the redwoods need to live in?! On another note, my daughter got me a book for Christmas titled The Jive 95 an oral history of America's greatest underground rock radio station KSAN San Francisco, have yet read it, but it is currently in the on deck circle
@@kennedyterence4209 It should be an interesting read, my partner and I moved to S.F. in January ’66 and have been here since then. The Human Be-In in January ’67 was remarkable as was the short time after, but by the time people came to San Francisco with an expectation of what it would be, it soon evaporated. By December 6, 1969 and the Altamont Free Concert it became a turning point that led to a darker parts as in ’78 when the murders of Mayor Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk and the Jonestown murders and suicides all came within days of each other.
Awesome I lived in a cool house on Riverside Drive in E Nashville in 90's-2000's. Emmylou used to drive by in her silver Rolls all the time. Very cool neighborhood
I love telling the story of taking a friend to see Todd a couple of years ago. I told him to watch a few videos to get the idea of what he’s like. When I picked him up I asked if he watched anything he said yes, but I’m going anyway. I was undeterred, in fact I kind of smiled inside. We got to the show and Ryan Montbleau opened up, which was cool because the crowd loved him and he set the stage well. Todd came out and was Todd (this was in his home town, so that really helped). After the show we got outside and I looked over and said well…… my friend said “that dude is an fking genius. I said my work here is done.
Thanks, Otis. Been worried about Todd since he canceled his shows last fall. It's so good to see him survivin' and thrivin', as only Todd knows how to. ❤️
Hi Todd. Heard you open for John Prine at the Des Moines, Iowa Civic Center in the early 1990s and still remember it often and warmly. Thank you. Best Wishes.
Thanks, Otis - always good stuff...as a boy from Terre Haute - I appreciated your last episode as well --- I remember fondly attending the CBS record club sales (where they opened warehouses to the public to get rid of old stock (if you had a "golden ticket" to get in)) buying records for a $1 (or less) and cassettes for 25 -50 cents, concert t-shirts, posters --- how I came to know Tom Petty, Journey and other great bands -those were the days!
This is great advice and to read as someone who has a new solo album coming out that I consider I made for myself and god. Some of my best memories are busking on the streets of Dublin. Thanks Otis and Todd.
I saw Todd for the first time in 2009 at the Tucson Folk Festival. He was the best! Since then I've been enjoying his Purple building videos and just downloaded his first give-away set. Wow, the stories are half the fun. But then, he's a real story teller.
Tod’s the best thing to come out of my years of B&T mornings on Nap95 doing that beer run! Also his algorithm may have lead me to Otis as well. Seems I picked them both up around the same time. Respect you both
Ever since I was in high school 15 years ago, I said I wanted to move to East Nashville. It’s crazy to see you at home so for now. So much culture there you can find some pretty cool neighborhoods 45 minutes or so outside of Nashville that are $3 million at home still lol. Great video!
Thanks for making all these videos. I had the pleasure of catching John Prine in concert many times and now I'm hooked on Todd's music. I can't pick my guitar up without playing one of his songs. Your channel is one of my all time favorites and Todd is a national treasure.
It’s snowing in Fort Dodge, Iowa! Wow, lots of snow. I like those stories of people doing pranks. Great job Otis getting Todd to sit down talk about life. Enjoyed getting to know him better. Wished I had taken my art and guitars to East Nashville. I could hang with Jim Herrington and do photography while learning my guitar. Sweet dreams. Thanks!
This is a bit of a digression, but your talk of busking reminded me of a song about busking from one of my favorite albums of all time. The song is "Grand Central Station, March 18, 1977" from Steve Forbert's Alive on Arrival.
Kind of like a town cryer, busking to the air seems like a relationship with a cosmically shared experience . Somehow older . Todd, not to sound wrong but dude that white shirt looks great any more around ? 😎✌️⛄🌨️
Got a banjo playin busker buddy who’s met Pete Seeger and is a total troubadour his name is Billy Scribbles and hopefully he’ll be playing on the corner near you sometime like deja vu in fast forward. It’ll feel familial, in a good way .
Busking may have been the next evolution from what began as ‘folk music’ where copyright and lawyers were not to be found. The monetizing of music like most of all of the arts is finance capitalism that Joe Hill and Woody Guthrie with his guitar sticker would still find problematic. Joe Hill was ‘one of the Spellbinders for the IWW and would show up as they did at the Tucker Utah strike on June 14, 1913 (Salt Lake Tribune). He shortened his pseudonym to "Joe Hill" as the pen-name under which his songs, cartoons and other writings appeared. His songs frequently appropriated familiar melodies from popular songs and hymns of the time.’ ☮ All of the arts and the people who labor for their production should be financially supported as a social good for all. “You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will live as one” John Lennon
