- Added Witcher style weapon trails, (doesn't look as good, I know) Refined everything and added two handed weapons. Animations, swings and dodging look much better thanks to Kubold's perfect animations. (Creator of the game Hellish Quart) Check out his page on the marketplace if you are interested.

I quit using Unity many years ago and started using unreal and the one thing I really really miss about the Unity community is people actually show how they did this stuff. Unreal is mostly all show and no tell. It's really frustrating. Yea there are some tutorials out there but they suck.
This is probably done with something called motion warping, research it and you'll know.
but in general I agree Unreal Engine Tutorials mostly suck.
Looks fluid and snappy. Overall the controls would be a big factor on how it feels

reminds me of the Sleeping dogs style of melee combat. One thing you need to integrate with the player is more stumbles and stuff when you miss a dodge or get hit. It doesnt look good to be able to take a bunch of hits without being knocked back while destroying the enemy.

Friend, tell me how you set up the camera? I would really appreciate it if you let me see your project. I don't need animations, not for commercial purposes, but for education.
Its just a spring arm setup with lag, you can also edit arm length and offsets on the fly depending on the situation.

It's rare to see a locomaton made in UE that looks that good. Much better than most AAA games made in this engine! You could make a lot of money with this

You know I have an idea for a make your own Superhero game where you can customize your character with a custom look, and you can use weapons, melee like this and Super Powers such as flight, electrical beams from hands, heat vision, capes or no capes the whole slam, in an open world city where you just go around being a superhero fighting random crimes and bosses. Think CyberPunk but Superheroes.

Dude this is awesome i gotta figure how you did this. Im making a mercenary game of sorts and i need combat like this lol, but for stealth it needs to be more stealthy then thwt. Also the finishers couls be faster.

What is the best way to handle the collision for this type of combat? Do you place a spher component on the fists and check for an overlapp?
There would be a gap between the character and its hand that way, it may get behind the object you are trying to hit. Try a sphere trace to the hand, that way it won't miss because the characters are too close.
@@WardSennes So basically, you made a hard lock on the enemy and as you play the animations you trace a sphere on the player's hand whenever you attack. Do you also have some logic to lerp the player's position to the enemy's position or you just play the attack animation?
@@john2377 Yes, or to the tip of the weapon if you have one. I move the players only on finisher animations, they both face each other with transform lerps.

Was there a tutorial that you used for the locking onto the enemies? And how did you get the camera to move freely when locking onto them in combat?
No spesific tutorials come to my mind, but its not that complicated. You can check a spesific actor type with a multi sphere trace while the aim button is pressed, using the sphere diameter as max distance, and get the closest actor based on results. Dont do this on event tick, check it every 0.1 or 0.2 seconds instead. And you can use another variable for rotating the character instead of control rot, so its seperate from camera controls etc.
