Thank you for your persistence! I have experienced the same difficulties germinating Aerogarden chive pods. I can't wait to try the Park Seed variety!

Your videos are fantastic. Thanks for taking the time and effort to do them. (Chives have been the bane of my existence.)

chives is one plant i grew in the backyard and ignore, and it comes back and spreads a bit bigger year after year (chicago area).

I tried chives and they germinated quite easily. Unfortunately, they grew to about 4 inches high but were very thin. The leaves didn't broaden out. I gave up with them in the end, cut them and just ate them. Although they were really thin, they did have a nice, strong flavour. Might try them again. Meanwhile, my Coriander (Cilantro) is doing really well, the Parsley just keeps on growing and my Chili plant has buds all over it but again, like the original, it's growing too tall for the unit even though I've been pruning it back. In the other unit, the Tiny Tim tomatoes are doing well but as soon as they turn red, I'm eating them. Got a few good trusses and lots more flowers on them. The dwarf French beans are also doing well and so far I've had two harvests from them with more beans growing nicely.

It’s a good title - lots of drama all right. Thanks for your patience in producing these videos. I remember your video with the green onions growing in some coir/potting mix and placed beside the Aerogarden. That seemed very successful. Would you consider doing the same with chives?

I haven't thought about it, but it is a good reminder and worth trying. I may give it a try in the future.

My issue is that my chives are growing too well in my Aerogarden. These plants are over a year old & 3 times now they've grown new plants under the lid into the water. I carefully remove them & put them in a new pod & they take off. I'm wanting to plant something else but the chives won't die. Usually I won't let them flower but this time I did & I swear they're stronger than ever. They're growing outside the pod by an inch all around onto the surface of the lid so I had to block off the middle pod to give them space. I thought herbs are ruined when they bolt but apparently not. The more I neglect them the stronger they get.

Wow I had no idea that chive germination was so terrible, no wonder I struggled with direct sown seeds in a pot. I think I also had Dollar Tree seeds, maybe they are lower quality in this instance. I had much better luck with garlic chives too.

Yeah, as much as I learned, garlic chives are much easier to grow compared to onion chives.

Maybe the seeds were too old already, if i recall correctly i think i read somewhere that chive seeds are only good for 1 year.
Another option would be to buy a pot of chives in a supermarket and to transplant it into the hydroponic system. This is what i already tried out last year and it worked fine. But after a while i had a lot of these small flies everywhere so i disposed of the plants.

I think I heard that chives need cold temperature (below 18C) to germinate. Could that habe been the problem? 🤔
