As a 30 year TA veteran motorman about to retire, these were the only trains that I LOVED to run. The slant R40s were a close second

So cool that you ran these classics! I sure miss them. One of my uncles was a motorman who ran the R-12's thru R-36's. His favorite line was the #7.

After GOH, were there any ways to tell apart the R26, R33ML, and R36 ML? I know the worlds fair redbirds had the different types of windows

I used to love going with my dad to get his paycheck at that E241st Tower. I loved seeing me Pop show his pass and we would go through the gate to jump on at E233 St. I thought he had the greatest job in the world. Those Redbirds were amazing. An amazing trip back In time. Thanks for posting these videos.

Lived right off the Pelham parkway stop until I was 10. My dad used to take me to ride just for fun from Pelham parkway to E 180th st because I loved trains so much. Love how the Redbirds allowed you to look at the front window on the first car.

8:34 that’s the house was used in the movie “Prison Songs” in 2001 with Q Tip played as Elijah who was in a group home. Also, Fat Joe played as a bully too. Eventually, the house was torn down over the years.

I used to think that about the 1960s. The fact is we are fascinated by the period just around the time of our birth and earliest memories. There was a grittininess then but compared to most of western civilization there is still a lot of grittiness here in NY. Today you are much less likely to get run over by a car or sit around with having to do, to name just two things.
