As much as I am a Bionicle simp Hero Factory had some pretty solid designs except near the end those monster sets we're wierd. And the animal hero sets for the Witch Doctor series, was interesting... I remember wanting the Core Hunter set so badly. Still one of my favorites.
The problem with Hero Factory is that it tried to fill the shoes of Bionicle, a legendary franchise with deep lore and a solid fanbase. It's unfortunate it didn't last but IMO it doesn't even come close to Bionicle. I feel like both could coexist tho since they are pretty different in design and both have their identities.
although i agree, I would say that it did have some inherent flaws like bionicle. don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore hero factory since i did grow up with it, and it did give us an amazing building system for constraction figures going forward. but the story was kinda weaksauce, at least at the surface level of it. the sets did have kind of lanky proportions that could be fixed quite easily. the backs were pretty skeletal too. despite all of these flaws, I still agree that hero factory is really good, and it is underrated and kind of sad how some bionicle fans treat hero factory.
