Enjoyed video! The way your disposing of them is the proper way. I really hate it when people leave dead smelly fish all over the ground, or on the boat ramps.
Carp are really good smoked. Some of the recipes for Salmon work surprisingly well for Carp. Maybe because Carp are an oily fish rich in omega 3's similar to Salmon? If your brave enough? Try one of the recipes for Salmon Candy! Just exchange the Salmon with Carp. Wow really good! Lots of good video's on cleaning and preparing them as tablefare. If your not into it, they're really good livestock food and plant fertilizer!

carp is edible as any fish, the presumption that it will taste bad in every case is incorrect. After spending a coupel of days in a bathtub it's body cleanses a fair bit. It's true that it wil not taste as delicious as the ones in Europe, where it is not an easy fish to catch.

Ive found heaps of urban waterways where I have pulled up the odd 65cm carp. Its crazy how big they get in such small ponds.

In Australia we overfished our natives and destroyed their habitat which lead to drastic declines in native fish populations. It left a big gap in the ecosystem which carp filled. They became the dominant species in the rivers because they were the only species tough and adaptable enough to still thrive in our degraded rivers.
Today we give carp the blame for the decline of natives and the degradation of our rivers. It's easier than taking responsibility for our own misdeeds plus hating and killing carp makes us feel like noble eco-warriors doing something to help the native fish that we still catch and kill for food provided they're legal size.
We kill carp because it makes us feel noble and important. Oh, and because it's the law that you must kill them and laws are never wrong-headed, unethical, unjust or otherwise flawed in any way.

what is this barbaric behavior doing being broadcast! you're doing nothing but damaging te fish, have some courtesy, buy some mats and gear where you are not going to damage the fish! you Aussies treat carp like shit! why are you killing them? DISGUSTING!

    • @henshooten
      @henshooten  7 лет назад +3

i highly suggest you look into the law regarding feral/introduced species in Australia mate ,the carp destroy waterways and are responsible for both the decline and loss of many native flora and fauna ,as such are on the noxious species list ,legally they CANNOT be returned to the water and must be destroyed, i know i would much rather have a populous of native species than an introduced feral/noxious species that has and holds the potential of destroying entire eco systems.
keep in mind here in Au the weather and climate allows for carp populations to explode in numbers unlike any other ecosystem ,within a few months an entire system can and has been decimated beyond recovery (ie not even carp can populate sustainably)
thanks though Chris ,i appreciate your input mate

    • @chrisraison8952

henshooten it's just barbaric, I can't belive something that is held so dearly over hear, can be considered a pest, carp are hardly a dangerous species, they live in harmony with almost any fish, and if anything just provide another food source to all the predators
over here in the UK, they are treated with such respect, and looked after so well, caught and released, kept in cradles and treated like babies!
carp are an amazing creature, and to see them treated as vermin just shocks me!

dont get me wrong Chris i can completely understand your thoughts mate, unfortunately the facts are opposite to what youve been told although i would be glad to be proven wrong .
i would like you to read this article from one of our local papers , this may give you a better understanding of the problem they cause in our (AUSTRALIAN not British) ecosystem www.theaustralian.com.au/news/inquirer/european-carp-public-enemy-no-1-in-the-murraydarling-basin/news-story/1e1c77892fa7f8dafc1cca6ddc1daac5

please excuse that Chris not all us are like that ,i guess every culture has the same conflict between them ,take dogs for example in certain countries its seen as normal to eat them and treat them like pests ,over here as well as england they are revered as pets , if you look further into my video mate i do clarify that i destroy them as humanely as possible via brain spike ,this means less suffering ,yes i understand how you can see it as barbaric my friend but i guess its down to cultural and environmental differences , i will admit i do find it unusual but also fascinating over the level of care that is shown in england (i recall one particular video where the man placed betadine on the lip of the carp to eliminate any infection and encourage healing ).
over here the rate of survival is paramount to an epidemic, i've seen carp that live with holes right through them ,i've seen carp survive in minute ponds of no more than 10cm of water ,their capacity for survival is tenfold compared to england or any european countries ,so much so our EPA has released a virus targeted at the annihilation of carp (feel free to google Carp herpes in Australia) .alas here is an interesting fact that may shock you mate ,Carp are the highest farmed fish in the world for protein
take care and happy fishing mate
