I just got one 2 days ago. I did my first cook and it worked great. I took base and put it just inside my house from the grill. I was connected everywhere inside my home.
Great review and just subscribed. I currently use a Fireboard with Drive(for the fan) on my WSM22. managing all the wires can be a pain. A few questions. 1. How long does the charge last in case of really long low and slow cooks? Pork butts can take 15hrs. 2. This new unit seems to have a short probe, how would it handle large pieces of meat, like a Prime Rib Roast if it cannot get temp from the center. TIA.
I have the TempSpike with the two probes. It takes a while to calm down. I'll get readings that are over 100° higher ambient than what the temp on my smoker is showing. I don't know which is accurate which is really frustrating. The internal probes seem to be accurate within a couple of degrees of each other and the wired smoker probe. It was much easier when I didn't know what the temps were!
Very nice job on that roast Tom! These wireless probes are the perfect answer for air fryers and rotisseries. I have one of the competitors in a block that connect via Wi-Fi, so the range is never a problem. If I had one wish of these, and I'm sure it will be answered eventually, is that they were thinner. Thanks for featuring this one, it will be on my gift giving list for Christmas.
Well today after the last cook of a chicken in a roaster my fully charger probe lasted 1.5 hours i charged it up again and today put a potato in smoker at 150 f the probe easily lasted 12 hours but in the app the battery indicator formthe probe turned from green bars r To compleatly red and one red bar it did this after 3 hours then the probe had power even at the low red battery symbol for 9 more hours and wasnt dead even after this it sat on the red low charge indicator for ten hours
Very interesting results. My complaints with the Meater + was it would lose connection as soon as I went inside . Was the main reason I quit using it. Might have to give this a try. Plus, if it can make my chuck roasts look like that, winner winner chicken dinner (well pot roast dinner...LOL). Nice review Tom!
I bought one but the probe has an autonomy of 1 hour and then it runs out. How long does the probe last for you? The instructions say it has an autonomy of 40 hours and the booster 3 months. It will be without use but if using the probe I only have an autonomy of 1 hour then it is not worth the money.
Hi Tom. After watching this video I went back and revisited your review of the Z Grills 200A portable pellet grill. I really like the one piece, grease management system in it. Would you still recommend it now that you have used it more? Is there a different portable pellet grill that you would recommend over the 200A? Thanks for all the great videos!
Which would you say is best quality out of the plus your reviewing now and the dual thermo pro? 2nd question if you had a bogo deal which would you say purchase today?
Great video as always Tom! I bought this single Tempspike a few months ago after your review of the dual unit. I like it other than it is so far off on ambient readings! That’s the main reason I bought it….so I don’t have to mess with a separate probe for ambient temps. It’s usually off about 50-90 degrees F! I know this vs. readings from a Thermopro 4 channel RF thermometer and also a Thermoworks Dot. Those both can’t be wrong! I still enjoy the approximate ETA feature though.
Thanks for watching! This one wasn’t available a couple of months ago. It release’s on 11/1. It seems like every new model of these does a better job with ambient temp. If you watch the video you will see that
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Yes, I’m guilty of commenting before watching the video! The unit you have does seem to perform much better than mine. I may indeed buy the new one when it comes out.
if you are cooking a pork chop...do you push the probe to the middle of the meat or all the way in? (or as far as you can without it coming out the other side) I enjoyed your video
Thanks for Watching! Wouldn’t use this in a pork chop, use an instant read for that. This is more for pork roast, pork butt, brisket, large cuts of meat
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ I will be cooking a roast in the slow cooker so I will have to wait for that...but I am excited to give it a try! Are the preset temps pretty good or do I need to edit them? Thank you again!!
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ My Ambient temp is reading 84 f in a home that is 76 by several other sources so I tried it today and it reads 358 in my oven that is set for 375. How can I reset it to see if it is just off to start with? I'm not sure how to check the oven vs probe.
BTW Tom, I'm sold on chuck eye steaks now, after asking my local butcher about them he explained to me where they're cut from, right next to the ribeye's ... thank you )
Does it say how long the probe will last on a charge? Long enough for a big brisket cook? *Edit* Thanks for another great video! I just picked up a PK original and their charcoal basket from your recommendation 👀
Sam's Club is selling them for $19.91 with an instant read thermometer in a bundle in Mentor, Ohio I picked up two of them, maybe all the Sam's are doing it
🧐🧐Why is everybody talk to much about range F range I need for any stick to survive any high heat flame that BBQ or oven brings that's top number 1 also have a display so you can pick App or display unit to use or use both and be accurate that's 2nd

I bought one of these temp spikes at Sams a few months ago I love it I put the base right inside my back door and it’s works great
Thanks for Watching! Glad that it works for you!
Just watched your video and promptly made a purchase of the temp spike plus. With the coupon code it was only $68 and can't wait to receive it!

Thanks for Watching and subscribing David! They do have models that have the longer probe. It easily can go 20 plus hours on a single charge.
I got the original temp spike. I like it but find the probe charging is iffy. Might check this one out

Do these kind of grills need to plug in for electronics?

I’ve not had to re-set or calibrate, there might be something in the owners manual otherwise e mail them.
I’m buying the wired version. Not sure if the wireless is reliable long term use.
