    What a great and easy repair! It's nice when you can fix something that doesn't have 5 layers of parts to remove to get to something simple.... like a belt for example or these switches. Top Marks to Onkyo!

      Are you referring to that Macintosh DVD player that I worked on a few years ago where I had to pull the entire unit apart and pull circuit boards out to get the drive out to change the belt to open the drawer. And then the guy didn't even want to pay to have it fixed because he was saving how poor he was. Drives a freaking Bentley and spends half the year in Mexico. I think he slipped up what he told me he sold it for 1300 bucks that kind of pissed me off because he certainly ground me down on the repair

    Anyone looking for a cd changer I would highly recommend this one. Onkyo still makes this same player as it has been around a long time. I bought one almost 20 years ago and it still works great. These are built like tanks compared to most other ones. The fact that this is the first one of these he’s seen speaks volumes. In fact I just had to replace the original GP batteries not long ago that came in the remote control when I bought it. The use by date on them was 2007.

    Thank you, I was able to fix our Onkyo CD player through this video....the internals were slightly different but, close enough. There was a cd inside case under tray like in yours. Good to have electric cleaner in hand....nice quality cd player too. Best wishes!

    Hey man GREAT video! Thank you so much for calling out the various parts and what they are for as you did the tear down. I'm a total beginner with this stuff and loving what I am learning but definitely have a long way to go. SUBSCRIBED! Looking forward to learning more. Cheers!

    A very common problem that causes the same issue with any players that have a loading drawer.
    Most of the time is spent finding the faulty switch, some are well hidden, this one was not to bad.

    Hi there I have an Onkyo DX C390 and the issue I'm having is it is stuck in standby mode, I plug it in and none of the buttons on the remote work or on the face of the unit, attempted to leave it unplugged for several hours in attempt to reset it and no such luck. Do you have any recommendations on where to start or how to fix? This unit worked fine for 3-4 weeks prior to this issue, I bought it used. I've been having some frequent power outages recently if that helps. It was plugged into a surge protector.

    I have this changer and a similar issue. Mine opens and closes on its own repeatedly - sometimes 10-12 times before it finally plays. I hate to throw it out but it is frustrating trying to use it.

    I got given a marantz cd changer that a mate was going to throw out i think he tried to sort it out and failed a couple of missing screws and a new belt and working fine sounds decent for a changer but my phillips cd 618 .is the best sounding of the cd players i have owned .

    Hmm limit/position switches, always fun to watch the system going crackers :-D
    I still think vcr's do mental the best :-D
    I imagine even an embedded magnet and hall sensor would work (until the magnet escaped).

    They should have used optical sensors as they did with the carousel position sensing. Makes me sad thinking how many of these went to the landfill or recycling because of this simple fault.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  2 года назад

      Optical sensor fail too you know.

    • @mrnmrn1
      @mrnmrn1 2 года назад

      @@12voltvids Yes, but the difference is that an optical sensor *might* fail, but these leaf switches (because they are leaf switches, just encapsulated) are guaranteed to fail, sooner than later, some in less than 5 years, especially if they are not in use for a few years. Only if they were using gold plated contacts instead of silver plated/silver alloy ones, they would probably be almost as reliable as optical sensors.
      Yes, optical sensors have the downside that if they fail, you can't repair them with some contact cleaner... But that doesn't matter, because a lot of owners will not even bother trying to get a repair quote for their stuff, they just toss it out, sadly.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  2 года назад

      @@mrnmrn1 it's a cost thing. Optical sensors fa due to static electricity too. lightning strikes in the neighborhood knockout optical sensors and lasers left right and center

    On your vid of the Sony cd changer ( ruclips.net/video/yaXwF_1DxtA/видео.html ) you showed that often the fault is due to a damaged flat cable or the optic sensor. Does this also apply to other brands like Onkyo, this one? I have a DX-C909 where the carousel keeps switching back and forth over and over. I bought this unit with the description of only needing new belts but it only seems to keep on going back and forth.

      You learned a lesson. eBay sellers are liers. They don't know what is wrong. They say belt because if they said something else you wouldn't buy. But s belt sounds simple. I don't buy or sell on eBay for that reason
