A question about assistance levels. You mention PAS 1 on the m600 = level 3 on the m500. I am concerned that the m600 will just have too much power when you are trying to do technical tracks. Do you find this to be the case? And switching to 9 PAS levels in the display settings - does that give you more granular control over the PAS provided by the motor? Would you say the M600 has far more power output that say the Bosch CX in lower PAS? Does it have an ‘ECO’ mode that might further reduce the PAS provided by the motor? Great review btw.
I can't say much about the Bosch CX I haven't had much experience with it, however I have ridden older Bosch, Shimano, Brose and Yamaha and to be honest the m500 mostly feels on par with all of them. I did ride the new Bosch briefly with the smart mode, which adapts to your increase in effort. That was a cool feature. Now to your question. The M600 torque input is pretty good. With 5 settings, I have never struggled with anything technical in 1, 2 or 3. However 4 and 5 seem to want to push you off the track if you're not ready for it. Also, changing to 9 levels improves response. Regardless of which motor you get, ebikes are awesome. But the M600 is pretty darn powerful and I very rarely ride it in level 4 or 5.. Enjoy!!!
@@fangbikes2751 great info cheers. Also I think the new m600s have gone back to the plastic gear. Do you have any details on that? Also have you found the m600s to blowing up cheaper rear hubs? How often do Bafang put out firmware? I'm guessing you would want to make sure you are always running the latest firmware. You have definitly alleviated concerns with PAS and torque.
Which of the two motors do you recommend for all-mountain ride specially on the steep ascents? I absolutely want to go ride more further on tight trails.
The M500 has plenty of torque and will charge up any hill. If you can keep the front wheel down and keep traction, the M500 will get you to the top. It is also much more efficient than the M600. The M500 comes stock EN15194 compliant, 25km/h and 250W limit. The M600 will do everything that the M500 can do, but goes faster (40km/h) and is louder with the steel gear. if you want to "ride further" the M500 is your pick. Happy riding.
@@fangbikes2751 what do you mean when you say the m500 is more efficient? How is it more efficient than, lets say, running the m600 at the same power level?
@@dimitargliguroski5041 It's just a figure of speach. Bascially the M600 on Level 1 (the lowest setting other than "off") is similar power to the M500 on level 2 or 3 (not exactly, but that's how it feels). Therefore if you're just going for a light-assist ride, you will use less power with the M500 because you have levels available to you that use less power. In a nutshell, the M600 Level 1 is overkill for a light-ride.
@@fangbikes2751 I also have another question, is the M500 a capable hill climber, as in, does the M600 climb hills easier, or are they equally as good? I haven;t bought one yet but am tossing up between both.
Absolutely the M500 is a capable climber. Use your granny gears and the M500 will climb pretty much everything. If you had a long steep road, and used the same gear, the M600 will get up faster. It just has more power. Don't forget, if you're doing laps of a track, up / down, you might get 5 laps (for example) with the M500, but only 4 with the M600 before running out of juice... 🤔
There are more powerful motors out there (the Bafang Ultra) but it is also much heavier. There are much lighter motors out there (fazua) but theyh are much less powerfull. There are motors with smoother performance and customisable tuning, but they are much more expensive. So to be honest, I would say the Bafang M500 and M600 are pretty much unbeatable for Price / Performance / experience. :-)
M600 has notably more torque as you would expect when it's pushing twice the power. However, that's not to say the M500 is weak. Either motor will climb basically anything depending on the skill of the rider.
@@petershanle9675 indeed... but it is heavier, uses more power and therefore needs a bigger battery which is heavier.. it's all about balance. For a big power, big bike. Ultra is King 👑.
I have the M600 with quiet gear and 2000 watt controller in my carbon Luna X2 eMTB. Quit and powerful!
i got a luna bbs02 and bbshd both with luna's quiet cog . i swear my bottle bracket is louder
Great video across-the-board

Thanks for the review, extremely helpful in helping me decide which way to go. Where did you buy them from? My Google-Fu is letting me down.
I get the motors and batteries directly from Bafang. They are matched to the E1 carbon framekit we sell.
If i buy a EggriderV2 i really can't change the software settings? 🤔
You mentioned plastic gears in the M500, do you think it will stand up to plenty of uphill riding?
It certainly has so far. Bafang have been using composite gears in their motors for a long time with great success.
