Thank you so much, that means a lot! This is actually my third channel. It is my first gear related channel though. I’m doing this channel because I have a passion for this kind of thing, and I love sharing helpful knowledge and information with people.
I am so happy youtube showed me your video. Get out there and don't give up! Take a break whenever you need to and keep trying. I hope to see many more of your videos in the future!
At 1:03 says "you will drill a hole *exactly* where you meant to" and then proceeds to show the hole drilled completely off to one side of the punch mark! Don't get me wrong - I've owned one of these for years and it's a great bit of kit, but that demo does it a bit of a disservice.
My drillbit was in the divot, although maybe a tad on the side of it. It’s a bit hard when you’re looking through a camera lens and filming, and talking at the same time. That’s OK, I’ll take a B+ grade. Aim small, miss small. Thanks for watching, I'm totally ok with the constructive criticism 👊🏻 I'm all about continuous improvement!
No idea how your video came up, but I'm glad it did. Was a nice review, simple, to the point and good audio/ visual. I like the tip about the bluing agent too. At about $100aud, it's a stretch for something I won't use much, but I'll put some money aside bit by bit.
Tyler, I've been using one of these punches since the 80's and find it indispensable. I do want to point out an error in the way you're using the tool. When adjusting the strike force, you loosened the forward end of the tool. The rear cap is where the adjustment is to be made. Simply loosen / tighten the rear cap to adjust the spring tension. Thanks for do doing this video.
Oh, shoot! Haha I didn’t even realize I did that the wrong way. Thank you! I was focusing more on filming than on what I was doing. But yes, this tool is such an essential piece. 👍🏻
Hello, We use these in our Tow Trucks. If you push the centre punch on a toughened peice of glass it will shatter straight away. Emergency use Only . when the door wont open or you need to get in to rescue an overheated child or pet. DO NOT TRY THIS unless you want the peice of glass to no longer exsist. Regards Peter W. Australia.
Interesting. That looks exactly like the Craftsman center punch I bought about 50 years ago and still use. I wonder if Starrett made them for Craftsman.
Looks like an awesome tool, & I’ve been looking for a better center punch. One thing though, Starrett finally sold out to foreign interests this last year.. an old timer on YT made a sad grumpy video about it. Haha Hopefully their quality is maintained, but I wouldn’t hold my breath..
I definitely recommend it. Man, I’m sad to hear that Starrett has sold! Ugh, that hurts. I almost always prefer American made (with the exception of a few Swiss or German made tools). Thanks for telling me. We’ll see how it goes!
Thank you. I got mine 2 days ago. Anything made by Starrett is special. This was affordable too.
I totally agree!
Best tool ever for clearing painted over and corroded Phillips head screw slots . Makes a good center punch also .
It does do a great job at that!
first thing i added to my work issued tool purse. super handy for drilling holes on curved metal.
Exactly! Smart man. I consider it a requirement in a toolkit. 👊🏻
This is solid advice. I have at least different brands that are junk. Thanks for the tip!
Glad I can help!
Mine is 50 years old and used in machine shop. Still working 💪.
Ha! That’s awesome! 👊🏻
is this your first channel? you're a natural, nice work man.

@@Tried-n-True How do I find your other channels?
I've had one for over 40 years now
That’s awesome! Did you blue the exterior to prevent rusting?
@@Tried-n-True no, my shop is pretty dry, it just developed a dark patina on it's own, probably from skin oils and dust from metal cutting
@ Ah, cool 👍🏻

Thank you very much!
Also makes a great automobile window eliminator if you are into that kind of activity.
Yeah, I suppose it might. I’ve never tried that.

Oh, that’s very cool! I’m glad to learn another use case for the tool. Thanks 👍🏻
I've had one since 1976. Still use it all the time.
That's awesome! That's a testimony to its quality for sure.
@@Tried-n-True there are places you need to drill a hole, but have no room to swing a hammer to hit a center punch. Cool tool.

It’s possible I guess… would love to know!
Don’t have their auto punch but any other tools I have of starret’s are well made and worth the money.
It's crazy useful... I also love the larger sized auto punch model 18C for heavier gauge metal or larger sized drill bits. 👍🏻
