Nitecore EDC23 vs Olight Arkfeld Pro Light
I thought the EDC23 was going to dethrone my Arkfeld Pro light... but it has some serious shortcomings! I hope this review video helps you in and deciding which EDC light works best for your needs.

Will a glock 43 fit in there?
Oh yeah, for sure. 👍🏻
Is the clip hole spacing on the arkfeld pro the same as on the edc 23?
Let me check on that... I have heard people saying that benchmade bugout clips work on the EDC23 but I haven't confirmed that myself yet.
@Tried-n-True I would really like the ability to put the edc23 on a ball cap. If you could check if the olight arkfeld pro and EDC 23 hole spacing line up I'd appreciate it.
It goes on your belt not your pocket lmao 🤣
Lol no, it’s a pocket clip… who’s carrying flashlights clipped on their belt? Guys with pagers?
Nitecore def seems more of a defensive EDC light if you carry ccw without a mounted light, Olight is for walking a dog or finding your keys or items in the dark
Yeah, seems like it. However if I was going to choose a defensive light I’d go with something like a Surefire, Modlite, or Cloud Defensive. 👍🏻
Awesome review!
Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback!
You should try Roaring Fire Pack as well
I’ll take a look. Thanks for the suggestion. 👍🏻
Just bought arkfeld ultra , definitely liking it , rugged build just one thing if they could change the magnetic charge to usb c overall its great worth the money , maybe if I use for tactical I would go for edc23
Yeah, at this point everyone should be USB c… they could keep the magnet for utility, but just add a USB port on the side. Glad you like your Arkfeld!
Victorinox Rambler be like hold my beer 🍺…😂😂😂
No more like… “Here let me open that beer!” 🤣 But yeah, that’s a great model as well.
Most useful EDC gear for Christmas! 1) Victorinox SD amzn.to/4gxvrNb 2) Spyderco Para 3 amzn.to/3VUMZuk Amazon paid affiliate links.⬆️
Design is so important, isn't it? And not as easy to get right as you might think.
I totally agree. Horsepower looks good on paper but isn't worth much without a well applied design.
I Disagree. I like the olight charging.
It works but I'm personally never a fan of proprietary cables. However, I'm glad it's working for you!
😂The jacket has to much white in it for white tail hunting. What color is a deers tale?
@@craigbranstrom4749 That would be a good question for The Wilderness Company. My understanding is the “white space” creates “dead space” in the camo. Here’s their info on it. wildernessco.com/cicada/
Hmm, disagree, the lockout and the buttons work great for me
Sweet 👍🏻
gotta stake those castle nuts the real difference between a good ar builder and a psa enjoyer
Lol well put 👊🏻
Bando bag you mean Fanny pack 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Apparently Benchmade Bugout clips have the same hole pattern so this is easily remedied. Just ordered one so I’ll soon find out I’d it’s true lol.
I’ve heard that recently, that’s great! Unfortunately, I’m still not a fan of the button action or placement. Just going to return mine.
@@Tried-n-True I got that, I watched your full review. I was just responding to what this short was about ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@richcurren6888 oh cool 😎 👍🏻
You may want to watch PreMedic's review of the snakestaff EDC tourniquet. I've been able to fit a full sized tourniquet by sliding it into an empty TP roll. Once you slide the whole thing in, just pull out the cardboard. It makes it much easier to get a full size under the elastic.
@@BearClawAK47 thanks 👍🏻
There are mods to fix that issue, I fix my EDC25 with the deep pocket clip....
I’ve heard that… but for me the cup is only half the problem on the design of this light. Looking forward to seeing how Nitecore iterates this design going forward though.
Wow, I’m glad I watched your video! I was on the fence between the two, but I’m definitely getting the Olight. Subbed👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Yeah, it surprised me too. I’ve got another light that I’m starting to REALLY enjoy that’s also crazy affordable… will be doing a video soon about it.
It’s an 80’s fashion that looks odd on guys, and always has, at least in my area of the North East, I’m in a more urban area, backpacks are the norm., and if it seems too big to carry, a sling back is usually the smaller option. As for conceal carry, that’s what holsters are for. You know they have holsters that are designed for conceal carry, they’re less conspicuous and won’t draw unnecessary attention to you. You can wear them with shorts too…
As with most things… there are MANY variables involved. Yes, I have many IWB holsters that I use and enjoy 👍🏻 Here’s an example of a use case for the Bando bag… when you have children, and you’re bending down to pick them up and carrying them a lot on an outing in hot weather, the waist bag provides the perfect solution for being comfortable, carrying essentials, and concealed carry. There is not any gear that covers every single scenario, pretty much everything is “mission specific”. Nails need hammers, and cars need wrenches.
I totally agree. Olight, PLEASE, get rid of the UV and laser and give us more stand light. Three light modes would be great
100% 👍🏻👍🏻
If ppl are staring at u when u wear a backpack... I promise u it ain't the backpack 😂
Ok buddy.
One of the most insightful and useful reviews / comparisons I've seen for any products! Thank you.
Thank you very much, I truly appreciate that!
Will definitely stay with my Arkfeld pro.
Yeah, good choice there. I do have another very affordable light that I'm starting to love using more and more now too as well. Doing a video on it soon.
Вот если бы эти фонари смешать в одно целое - было бы отлично. На edc 23 появился бы очень удобный переключатель режимов!
Yes, that would be cool!
I fixed the pocket clip issue with a mini bugout clip. 1000% also works on the edc27.
Oh nice tip!!! Thank you for sharing. 👍🏻🙏🏻
Very informative. Thought provoking.
Thank you 🙏🏻 👍🏻
If I’m being straight up. Most edc carry guys will wear tactical cargo pants. Which is not super tight like jesns pockets
I’m sure some do, but most of my buddies here in Texas wear jeans. Could be a regional thing 🤠
Just ordered one, I shelled out a few extra dollars to get the CPM Magnacut version. They say they target 62-64hrc on the magnacut so it should be a great blade. I'll have to put it to work and find out 👍🏻
Nice! Yeah I’m interested in Magnacut… haven’t tried it yet. I’m betting you’ll really like it. 👍🏻
Backpacks are popular in my area but whatever bag I carry, I tend to fill up and get heavy. The fanny pack makes me choose judiciously what I “need” to have with me while keeping the weight down. The nomex balaclava is also good to keep your head warm for those of us folically challenged.
Exactly. And believe me, after you add a concealed carry firearm… there’s not a ton of room left over.
What was the tourniquet?
Snakestaff Systems 👍🏻
why would anyone want a proprietary charger when you can just use USB C for everything?
I agree
Waterproofing
get an O-port.
For 53 bucks last week and free shipping im okay with my purchase. The arkfeld pro was on sale for 75 at same time but i do hate how it carries but i got it mostly for work as a road mechanic. Ive had it for a week so time will tell for the edc23. I recently bought a Nitecore headlamp for hunting, which is awesome the NU53, then started seeing their edc lights and been waiting for the arkfeld pro to go on sale more than the usual 75 price tag. I will say its much smaller than i expected and super light. I wonder if all the other EDC nitecores carry that annoyingly high also. Oh and UV light feature is really practical for any auto techs using UV dye which is always used to pinpoint and find AC leaks in systems which can be a nightmaree or any leak you can add dye to for that matter.
Yeah, I use the UV for AC leak detection too (I should’ve mentioned that). Thanks for pointing that out 👍🏻
Link to tourniquet?
Snakestaff Systems… I couldn’t find them in stock anywhere but here’s their link. 👍🏻 www.snakestaffsystems.com/buy-now/etq-every-day-tourniquet
Pros and Cons: - Olights are waterproof, Nitecore isn't. -While Nitecore's turbo is higher, it's functional useless for anything other than a tactical blinding. The light gets hot and there's a cool down period. Olight's turbo is functional for practical uses with a much longer run time. - Olight customer service is top tier. Try sending a 4 year old used light back to Nitecore and see what happens.
Yes, I have to agree! I haven’t had to utilize Olight service personally but I’m glad to hear that.
The pocket clip on the edc23 really disappointed me so I replaced the clip with one from a Benchmade Griptillian. They are available on Amazon. The owner complication of the controls does suck too. I'm going to get the Arkfeld also so I too can have both.
Did that clip fix the problem? How did you find that it fit? Let me know what you think about the Arkfeld once you get one too!
I have both lights, including a smaller Olite UV, and I generally agree with your ergonomic assessment preferring the Olite in use. The UV light comes in handy for me, especially as a low-light in certain situations where I don't want to be observed. I would have loved a red-light, which is something I wish all three had. However my EDC23 does NOT have a power-on delay like you experienced, and that held true at any Lumen level. Mine always lit up near-instantaneously. And my turbo mode had no problem repeating more than a few times in quick succession just as soon as the time/temp indicator said it's available, although I don't use it often except to show off, as 1100 lumens is more than sufficient. About the ergonomics. I love the Olight's simplicity and straightforward selectors, all immediately identifiable by touch in total darkness. Not so the EDC23, I'd be turning it over top to bottom and from front to back feeling for all the controls, meaning that when given a choice and they were sitting next to each other, I naturally ended up almost always grabbing the Olite. Although after attaching the supplied lanyard to the EDC23 I started using it a lot more. Anyway, with the lanyard attached it eliminated all that fumbling, helping me to immediately orient the flashlight correctly when using it in the dark. Otherwise expect to fumble with it for a while. FYI I don't use belt clips. My favorite? I got both Olites and the EDC23 at the same time, and it turns out I naturally gravitated towards the smaller and lighter (not reviewed here) Olite UV. Throws out more than enough light and lasts plenty long enough for my use, close to that of its bigger brother. When pocketed it was surprising just how noticeably smaller and lighter it felt. Before this, I thought one of the "big dogs" would have been my first choice. With all three sitting next to me on my desk for a few weeks, turns out that in a pinch the Olite UV became my natural go-to every time. That being said, if I were camping or in a situation where I needed something more than just a quick look-see around the property or a quick emergency, the larger Olite Pro would then be my choice, although the EDC23 would be right there, as it's use-time available display is fantastic to have when you're not expecting to be near a power source for a while. Plus, and a big plus it is, you can charge it anywhere with USB-C. Forget the Olight's magnetic charger and eventually you are just carrying around a colorful hunk of metal. FYI Olite has a lifetime guarantee on these lights, meaning their non-user replaceable batteries are replaced for free under warranty. Nitecore, and I had to write to them to find out because none of their literature or their website has this information, but after the initial two-year warranty expires, they wrote to me that they will replace the battery in the EDC23 for $10.
Awesome, thanks for your input! 👍🏻
I have both and I quite enjoy the Nitecore. That said I carry mine in my jacket side pocket so I don’t have problems with the clip and it is always oriented correctly. My main complaint about the edc23 is that the turbo mode is almost inexistant. Best case you can fire it 8 seconds when cold. But if you already used it 2 minutes on high, you only have a 1 second burst and the flashlight never recovers. It is not true that you can get multiple bursts. Once hot you have a very basic flashlight; and it gets hot very quickly. For the positive, the strobe is easy to access, very powerful and has no timer.
Yes, I found that the turbo was extremely short lived as well… and also it got hot. Good observations 👍🏻
